I got called out on a service call to a small farm town today, and came upon this display down near the city square. I thought it was pretty interesting. Anybody familiar with this gal?

Doreen was a great competitor and person, very gracious and unassuming. The bow in the statue is a Hoyt Pro Medalist, without the TFC's and stabilizers. Here is a link to her induction in the Archery Hall of Fame and Museum. Munich Germany was the first time Archery was back in the Olympics after 52 yrs. John Williams, from the USA won the Men's Gold. Unfortunately, it was also when the Palestinian terrorist attacked the Israeli team, killing two and taking nine hostages.

Great tribute to an obviously dedicated & accomplished archer.
I sure hope nobody looks in her 1948 HS year book and finds a picture that offends someone somewhere. Next thing you know people from NYC, Chicago and SF will be demanding they take down the statue.

Always interesting that so many small towns, like Jefferson Iowa, across the mid west ( current pop is 4200) turned out so many named persons, some known and some not.

They had a shed with archery equipment and a target to use for kids, That's awesome! Just think how that would go over these days with the way everyone is now...............

Don K, went to a rural Iowa school and they had a shed full of archery equipment for the girls PT. When the targets were set up some us boys went down after school and did some shooting, never could figure out why it was just a girl's sport, baseball was king back at that time and the boys ruled. The archery course was shut down in the mid-60s and the shed went to tackling dummies.

As soon as you get the training wheels off that compound bow, you can shoot a real bow.” — Doreen Wilber (as stated to Don Orris). The cat eye glasses are timeless.
Doreen and her husband, Skeeter Wilber, along with Orris and Phil Siglin, started the Gang Greene kids archery program in the early 1980s. As of 5-6 years ago Orris, Siglin and Skeeter still were teaching archery to the group’s youngsters.
So why not have a little fun and have the recurve compound folks kid around a little bit??
