I've been here in Nome since early February, going home in a few weeks. Today is the first time I saw them. Hunting these with the camera only.

Always been something intriguing about these guys for me. Guess it is what they represent. Never seen one in person, enjoy.

I've always found musk ox and anything to do with the arctic very interesting. I took a picture of this one in the Brooks Range two years ago.

Nice. Before I stood next to a full size mounted one, I had always thought they were a lot larger. Must be all of that long hair and as they stand there in the open and on the ice, nothing to compare their size with. What? 600#s?

Friends by Grandby have 2 full mounts in their living room! Doesn't everybody?! He and his wife both got one a few years ago. His with a bow and hers with a rifle.

Ice age relics are neat as heck to see and hunt. Too bad we missed out on the Wooly Mammoths.

Boreal, that musk ox is pretty cool. He lives alone basically and is further south than any I’ve seen up there. We watched him ram a spruce tree for an hour one spring. Crazy to see him living in the trees. I thought he was a grizzly the first time I seen him, stalked him and got close enough to be dejected once his horns appreared from the brush. Cool animals!

Crazy isn't it, Ron! Super nice people. Judy shot that bighorn year before last south of Kremmling. You may know that. She was pretty proud.
