Just a good day to support our American Flag. Thank you to all the amazing active and former armed service members for allowing me to do what I love. Which is apparently sit on my tractor, feet up, drinking coffee! To a wonderful day...

Drove to the archery range and there was a guy waiving a huge American flag on the overpass. Gave him all I had in honks! Pretty cool.

Gold stars signify death of a son or daughter in war. During World War 11 Mothers flew the flag in their front window with a blue star for each son in battle. My dad had three brothers all 4 in service. Dad survived Iwo Jima but his 18 year old brother was KIA on Iwo. Then the blue star went to Gold on the flag. My father then lost his second youngest brother in the Korean War. Heavy price for one family. In hindsight it was amazing what that Gold Star mom went threw. You may drive down a highway near where you live and it may be called the “Gold Star Highway” that is what it means.

Thanks for the history lesson, Charlie. I never knew that.
The Korean War is often a forgotten war. My father was named after his uncle who was later killed in Korea. He was deaf in one ear and the only son to an ag family. How he got sent over was always a mystery to the family. Sad thing is that he couldn't hear when they yelled about the grenade in their foxhole and he was KIA.
For any Korea buffs, I have some of his personal effects he had on him when he was killed. There is Bank of Korea money but also Mexican Pesos. He'd never been to Mexico, any explanation for these?

My mom still has her blue star flag for me up in the window. Told her she could take it down now and she said, no I like it where it is!

Flying our flag at our post and on our sleeves. Being a medic for 8 years I’m all to familiar with gold star families! Those families and those that have given all, shall never be forgotten, you’ve given so much and asked for nothing.. Valhalla!

I have several American Flags that hold special provenance. First, is the one that was draped over my Grandfather's casket when he ascended into the Lord's Kingdom. The next one was flown over Ground Zero after the terrorist attacks on September 11th. The next was flown on board the USS Cole after she returned to duty, while out on deployment following her repairs in drydock from the terrorist attack on October 12, 2000. And finally, I have a flag that flew over Yankee Stadium during the final season before moving to the new stadium. And to think that so many do not honor our flag or those who protect our flag.

A little late to the party, but something I'm proud of. Flown over the U. S. Capital.
BTW, the plaque and wooden missile are actually straight, but taken with an iPhone, they certainly look cock-eyed!

Great thread and educational reminding me of prices paid. As some alluded to the price was also paid by the mothers. I remember my grandmother living the war day by day as my uncle fought in Germany. She seemed to be such an unhappy person until the day my uncle returned wounded but healing, a day that I will never forget and the joy she exhibited. Charlie, I can only imagine what your family went through. Thanks to all of you.....Bob
