Bowsite Outage - Please Read
General Topic

My apologies to everyone for the outage. We are making changes to Bowsite and it was absolutely necessary that we had no traffic to the site while those changes occurred. Normally we will stage the site and then do a simple cut over. Unfortunately that was not possible since we were dealing with our massive data warehouse going back to 1996.
Everything is back online now except the community forum. We will have a separate communication about that in the next few days.
Again, my apologies for the outage. Should be our last one for a while.
Pat
Thanks for bringing our productivity back to "normal levels" Pat. :-)
You know it's just entirely unacceptable that this completely free service you provide wasn't available for 2 days :)
Thanks for the update and all your hard work supplying us with this free community
That was painful! I even resorted to poking around on LW which made it doubly so!
I didn't realize I had a Bowsite addiction...………..
Bowsiter’s the past couple days....
Employees were a bit ticked off since I paid attention to what they were doing for a few days.
"Bowsite Out(r)age - Please Read" ;-)
big step to eliminate the community forum.....good luck with where this all headed Pat. It won't stop me from participating in archery and hunting topics at all.
Brotsky.........LMAO!
I felt so naked without being able to access bowsite!
Doubt he's eliminating the CF? So many souls will be crushed if that happens!
I think your GNP went up 2 points these last few days. Trump should be hiring Pat monthly!
Community forum could be dropped altogether; nothing but people arguing about Trump or worrying about the true identity of Rancid Crabtree.
Maybe the CF is going away?
I learned that PornHub has a "leatherwall" too!
Productivity at work up 30%
Wouldn't miss the CF at ALL!!!!
For a minute there I thought I got banned!
Glad it's back up! By the way... I've talked with TBM and he wants to come back to bowsite. :)
Phew....I can put the xanax back now!
You don’t know what you got until it’s gone! I was in shock and awe the first time I saw it was offline! I checked back several times
Just glad it wasn't more than a few days! (never realized how many times a day I just automatically click on Bowsite! ;-)
hey, its your baby you can do as you please.
Not only going away... but taking with it every great debate and battle Royale ever had?!?!
Well,,, A handful of the guys on the CF finally did it. They went overboard and got the plug pulled on the whole works.......nice going.........
Jaq I spit out my coffee reading your comment!!
Bowsite is a great bow hunting site but I sure won’t miss the CF part of it being gone !!
All you guys that say "good riddance to the CF", what forced you to go there?
I visited the CF a fair amount and posted some there. I can't say I'll miss it much. I'll just have to find somewhere else to go for my conspiracy theories and the right wing's version of fake news :-)
Glad all's well Pat. I'd had visions of some evil PETA cyberattack on the Bowsite - you just trying to keep improving is much more welcome news.
Brotsky's graph is hilarious, and very true!
I've pondered needing a timeout from the CF, looks like now's the time. Thanks for keeping Bowsite rolling Pat, I'm sure it's a lot of work, and it's appreciated.
I'd go to the CF out of morbid curiosity, mostly....in a car crash sort of way...I know I shouldn't look, but can't resist.
It won't break my heart if the CF leaves permanently. Recently it's been uglier, and casting a bad image on all bowhunters, IMO. Intolerance, name calling, vulgarity, and illiterate grammar have no places on a public forum. All of those things were becoming commonplace on the CF.
Matt
Exactly Brotsky, good riddance to the place. I never seen such gathering of vitriol in one place.
K so let me get this straight. I'm locked out for 3 days and when I can finally return, there's no new content?! This sucks
I believe Pat has had reservations about hosting the community forum for a really long time. Personally I can see the issues that it raises....especially if you are trying to run a business. I can see this single thread already becoming the new CF...........might set a new record for posts.
Sucks about the CF, wasn’t that bad of a place, just had to read past the BS.
All that work to make a separate section to bring back TBM
Well I was out of service for most of the outage but when I got back from bear hunting Sunday and the site was down....I basically figured out it’s the only thing I do online other than email:)
I started going to the CF after Trump was elected. Just to see the news (because I don't watch or read news, don't even have cable/satellite anymore)
I never posted much, but it had become my guilty little secret pleasure to lurk on there.
If I were Pat though, I'd dump it for good just due to business reasons. It's a little too much on there most of the time
Wow..... I'm offended..... triggered even..... ya sissies..... heheheh.... funny to see negative comments about a forum you can't make yourself stay away from..... you do realize you didn't go on it by accident??? No. Really. That's the way it works. See? You learn something new every day.....
Some folks are really are pretty.... entertaining..... "PORN SHOULD BE BANNED! You woudn't BELIEVE what I saw last night! The perverts!"
Bowsite? I can quit anytime I want..... I just don't happen to want to right now...
“I never posted much, but it had become my guilty little secret pleasure to lurk on there.“
Haha, perfect description of my CF experience
The CF was my go to “What’s happening in the World” link!
One Click and Boom!
No one faster than some of those CF posters on getting news updates.
Hope it comes back.
Bake, I started going to the CF about the same time...after my wife scolded me for getting too political on Facebook haha I didn't really have any other outlet, so the CF became the place I interacted on politics, society, economics, science, etc.
In general, I have to say I agree with Bake, GG, and Trial. There were some thoughtful posters who I enjoyed engaging who made me challenge my own thoughts and see certain things from another perspective; all-in-all I had fun with it and, for the most part, could get past the BS and the vitriol. I took some breaks at times for various reasons, but it was a guilty pleasure and it was hard to resist at times :) That said, there was definitely a lack of respect and a lack of civility that permeated far too many of the posts on the place and I can see why Pat would want to separate what Bowsite is from much of the behavior displayed on the CF.
So how will we find out if Gitmo becomes a secret Concentration camp for tens of thousands of deep state conspirators? What about the radioactive mass from Japan's reactor leak about to reach Seattle? What about BIGFOOT ?!?!?!? Lol
I'm still waiting to hear what the Rothchilds and the Illumination guys are doing and when their plan for worldwide domination kicks in......
Embry, we Okla guys didn't seem to have a problem with TBM. He sure drove some of the guys bat sheet crazy though! I thought some of their responses were more amusing that TBM statements. BTW, have you tried the ham blaster shot yet?
I was worried that the state of Connecticut finally got Pat shut down and confiscated his bow fishing rig and leopard mount.
136. That's the number of times I hit my bookmark wondering WTH had happened. It's so defeating to see that little circle spinning relentlessly and no Bowsite appearing. All is now right with the world once again.
You never miss the water till the well runs dry. Glad to have Bowsite back. Thanks for all your help and keep up the good work Pat.
Thank God.... Bowsite is back....I was starting to suffer from withdrawal symptoms!
Really going to miss the monthly joke thread.
there is no shortage of monthly joke threads.
As my bumper window states, "I was going to move to New Zealand but now I want a new Planet" !!!!
The House sets the rules and provides the tables. I have no problem with it. I don't think shutting down the CF will hurt Bowsite.
I feel much better now. Was going through definite withdrawal.
“Exactly Brotsky, good riddance to the place. I never seen such gathering of vitriol in one place.”
LMAO....So why would you go in there?!? Pat, you sure you want to get rid of CF...
Pat says more changes are coming. Call me crazy but maybe I’ll wait and see what he has lined up for us before I get too excited. Crazy I know but that’s how I roll.
I have been here since pretty much the beginning...what, 20+ years or so? I have followed Pat via his sites, and have watched a guy with great entrepreneurial skill and vision take a mere hunters alert style site and make it what it is today, all the while becoming extremely successful and a respected voice and advocate for hunters everywhere. He has done some controversial changes in the past which some of liked and others loathed, but it always works out. I am sure that PL knows what he is doing and is looking out for his business interests as any businessman should.
" Once people found out they could make threats, make vulgar posts, and try to negatively affect people they didn't like outside the confines of the forum . . . . . "
. . . . .
. . . . . .
KPC, all the CF forgave you for that a long time ago . . . . .
;^)
Ah, all is good in the world.
And damn, I keep hitting the community forum botton ;0)
Thanks Pat...I was spending way too much time on the CF, discovered it right before the 2016 Election, and the hook was set!
Just a final reminder to all the Bowlibs and Never-Trumpers...I was right ;^D
canepole... haven't tried the hamblaster as of yet. Although, I wouldn't mind doing that on a hog! lol
CF? Hmmm... seems I should've ventured over for some more entertainment from time to time. :)
You guy's who were on the CF daily ... whats this, the apology tour?
The only reason I ever clicked on the CF is because it was part of bowsite then I couldn’t get off it quick enough !! I hope the big game forum doesn’t turn into the new CF. I consider my self a die hard conservative but I sure don’t want to see that s=%& on bowsite all day, every day.
I loved it. Will hate to see it go away. Was always a good source of links to articles that I would want to read.
Terry
If I was a betting man I would wager that an individual claimed he was harassed at work and in his community by members of the community. He seemed like the kind that would attempt to use the system to harm a group of right leaning members.
Either that or the site is being positioned for a sale.
I think all the foul language and cheesy empty threats are what caused its demise, I always enjoyed it, and took it with a grain of salt. I really hope nobody would actually harass a guy to the point of going after him in a real sense! But, I wouldn't bet against it!
The monthly jokes were always my favorite, but that forum almost needed a full time 24hr a day moderator!
I always enjoyed it, in a twisted kind of way! an occasional hell or damn isn't to bad, but some guys just couldn't tone it down! I really hope Pat isn't considering selling the site! I would have to go into rehab for crying out loud!!! The withdrawals alone might kill me!
"Hopefully Pat replaces it with another "community" forum, only this time enforce the rules."
I hope so too. My bookmark was the Leatherwall where I would check out a thread or two {more until some whined and got the Campfire banned ;) }, and then glance at Bowsite before heading over to the CF to camp out. It was a good way to get a quick read on news and some pretty good articles. I figured out how to filter out the jerks and ignore them, that left some pretty good folks to listen to.
Bake summed up my cf experience perfect
Thanks for all your hard work Pat. Monday at work wasn't as much fun without Bowsite!
I'm a fan of the CF. Hope it returns.
It was touch and go for a while there...but I think I made it through the outage.
I just hope the “Makin’ Bacon” thread isn’t lost with the CF bleachbit (I simply cannot picture Pat sitting there next to Hillary, swinging hammers trying to remove everything. HA!!) That was how I remembered each step in my recipe as it was the only place I ever wrote it down.
CF just needs a couple of active mods
things that make you go hmmmmmmm........i guess we will see, not liking my gut feeling tho
trump/lefemine 2020
Found this on the old "Anybody fishing thread?"
Our very own Gray Ghost and his new rig for tarpon fishing.
Damn. Used to go to the CF just to laugh at all of the ridiculousness.
So if Pat is cleaning up this place and getting rid of the riff raff I can only think..
#1. Pat is selling the Bowsite to an LA based investment firm.
Or
#2. Pat is replacing Sarah Sanders and is going to Washington.
So Charlie, is that a confirmation that there will no longer be a CF?
Glad it's gone. Full of haters. No purpose what-so-ever on a bow site. Can't imagine what took so long.
"to position Bowsite for upcoming changes"
Soooo.... who ya selling it to?
"Either that or the site is being positioned for a sale." Saw this from Whitey and was wondering the same thing, just didn't want to verbalize it.
Pat loves this place, he ain't selling... my guess some tight butt threatened a law suit and Pat had no choice but to shut er down... ya see some start slinging stuff but when it is slung back to them they cry... kind of like Hildabeast after the election. Speaking of election... watch the rally lest nite?

Now what happened? I must a missed it...
I see the conspiracy theorists have now moved to the BGF! LMAO! Anyone consider that maybe Pat is following through with some of the things he has said he had planned for Bowsite? Such as an improved search engine, archiving, etc? That may have required some hardware upgrades on his end that caused him to take the site down a few days? Couldn’t be that simple though could it? Definitely getting into the heat of the offseason! Ha!
This is just Pat's way of Keeping America Great! I will miss CF if it goes away.
Never made it over there to the CF, now I feel like I missed out.
For the same reason you weren’t banned for your racist meme joke..... and your buddies Trax and HedgeHunter weren’t banned for registering anonymously.......
LMAO...I can't imagine why Pat would want to do away with the CF. This thread is all the evidence anyone would ever need.
CF description did say “Anything Toxic”
“Place got cleaned up purty well in last 18 months or so.“
-Hedge
I think HedgeHunter violated more than the anonymous clause on multiple occasions. It’s a shame that some users don’t respect the rules and jeopardize all the hard work Pat obviously put into his company.
LMAO...I can't imagine why Pat would want to do away with the CF. This thread is all the evidence anyone would ever need.
Yup...and for those that missed out, you're getting 90% of it on this thread and a few others. I noticed the mods are much more active on the BGF threads though and don't seem to tolerate much of what was commonplace on the CF.
Yep.... Poor Hedge and JTV the victims...... They can thank themselves for the CF getting shut down......
I’m glad that the Bowsite will be moving away from politics. It’s the Bowsite. No need to provide a platform for politics here.......
Now I remember why I never went on the Community Forum. Like being married to my first wife...
just what I predicted would happen....has happened.
Amen! It’s been getting ugly the last few days.
"Now I remember why I never went on the Community Forum. Like being married to my first wife..."
EXACTLY!!
I've had posts pulled here when I simply poked fun at the trad snobbery over on the Leatherwall. Nothing obscene, argumentative, or untrue. I was told in a PM by the moderator it was because I "mischaracterized the Leatherwall". I'm a trad guy too.
Which is another way of saying, "One mod is a trad guy with thin skin".
But mostly, Pat, Charlie, and the mods let things run here, and are very tolerant when posts sometimes get a little over the top.
Is there any way we can add a requirement to the code of conduct that posts must contain some type of rational thought and not just be incoherent rambling?
I've been on BowSite so long that I dont remember if I have ever read the rules of conduct. That said, I just read them (via the link above). Figured I'd post them here for all, given I'd bet many are in the same boat and have not looked at the info in a long time either. For some reason the numbers didnt come through, so hopefully the list below is readable:
No Profanity. This includes cursing, sexual innuendo, vulgar statements, racist, homophobic, transphobic, and other terms deemed offensive.
Ethical Persecution is not allowed - Public submissions which criticize other hunters for what they hunt, where they hunt, or how they hunt are not allowed.
No Threatening, harassing, or abusive remarks.
No discussion, or challenge, to our editing policy are allowed within the conferences.
No topics and/or statements which could be used to reflect poorly on archery and/or bowhunting.Since the Bowsite is visited frequently by anti-hunting organizations and non-hunting individuals, we feel it is necessary to remove those topics or statements which could be used against us, or tarnish our image. While the contributors original intent (e.g. an example of "what not to do") may be good-intentioned, if it can assist in presenting poor image to the media for our sport it will be removed.
No Advertising - This includes both commercial, nonprofit, and classified ads. We have programs available for organizations, commercial businesses, and an extensive FREE classified ad section. Sponsors of the Bowsite and our related sites are granted permission to advertise their goods and services on our conferences. An ad is defined as any post, topic, or blatant attempt to solicit business. An individual may respond, however, to a question on how to contact a business along with responses to inquiries on products or services. Suspicious contributions will be removed at the staffs' discretion.
Topics must be related to the forum. No off-topic posting allowed. This means that while in the whitetail forum, only topics directly related to bowhunting whitetail deer will be allowed. For example, a question on tuning your bow posted in the bear forum is not allowed. See the forum guidelines below.
Contributors who are argumentative, intolerant, confrontational, and lack respect for others will be removed. While debate is often healthy, habitual debaters and people who seek confrontation will be removed and potentially blocked from making future contributions. This is necessary to ensure a positive experience for the great majority of our visitors.
Anonymous Registrations are Prohibited - People who register for our services under assumed or "bogus" names will be removed.
Libel and Slander - You are solely responsible for your comments and content posted on Bowsite.com, Stickbow.com, DeerBuilder.com and Bowhunting.TV.
HH may have to change his handle to "poof" ...
I never knew the community forum existed - never a big one to scroll past the first few lines on a drop down menu. Now I've missed it!
Recently a guy from Vermont posted a thread in the BGF asking how long you normally sit before seeing deer (in the Northeast that can be long). For some reason the thread disappeared, unless I just missed it. Why would something like that get axed?
"Contributors who are argumentative, intolerant, confrontational, and lack respect for others will be removed. Don't post much on the BG forum much anymore because of this. A different approach or reason/opinion for something is not grounds to be informed you're an idiot.
If people would proofread prior to submitting, discussions would be very civil. I have deleted posts before submitting and closing the thread altogether because of proofreading first. "Think so you don't sink".
Geez, these CF guys are like parasites looking for a new host after killing their last one.
I might suggest....if the software makes it possible....only allowing edits to posts for something like 5-10 minutes after the poster hits the send button. After that time....no further edits and the post stands as written. Thank you.
this is what we know at this time: 'remove the former 'community' forum', does not say CU is NOT coming back.
I read Pat statement to imply a new improved version is possible. "In the coming weeks, we will be communicating those changes to you."
the horse has been beaten to death. No need to continue discussing this. Simply comply with our rules and everything will be fine.
This Topic has been locked. Thank you.
