Walmart has asked that patrons don't open carry in the store. As far as the ban on selling ammo, oh well I didn't shop there anyway. All these so called sporting good stores not selling guns and ammo is opening the door for a small player to step u . And yes I know Walmart is not a sporting goods store lol. Bass pro, cabelas and sportsman warehouse should reap the benefits.
Does anyone blame them after that idiot walked into a Walmart dressed in tactical gear and carrying his AR-15 in order to test his constitutional right? And this was less than a week after the El Paso shooting at Walmart.
Wally World better either get armed guards with long guns or their China Junk selling butts better get use to seeing me with one on my ankle and one on my hip. I don't hardly ever go there unless my wife sends me to get something on way home from farm. She gets same line every time, "i'll go anywhere else to buy it, not Wally World".
That's the first place you'd want to carry. Waldo World tries to ban weapons and make it a gun free zone you'll have dead folks all over country for these sick rejects.
I’m with Brad. Not cutting off my nose to spite my face. That goofball that open carried the AR in WalMart was just down the road from me. Lucky he didn’t get shot. WalMart is a business and they are making a business decision. I’m pro 2nd Amendment but can totally see their side of this. Do you really want to shop with people walking around openly carrying AR’s and loaded down with ammo? There may be a place and a time - but that’s not either the place or the time.
All their shelves are stocked with junk from China, anyway. Their produce section has subpar fruits and veggies, and their meat selection is laughable. A store with 40+ check out lanes, and now half of them you have to scan your stuff & bag it, too....and maybe an actual person running a register at 2 of the other 20. Have a problem? Go to the customer service desk, where you will receive absolutely ZERO help, and be treated like you're inconveniencing THEM! Screw em'....I've been done with ol' Wally World way before this news broke.
If Walmart is so concerned about making a difference and creating a safer America, I hope they also stop selling narcotic drugs in their pharmacies. They should take a stand by not filling pain killer prescriptions, to help end the opioid crisis sweeping this nation. They should close their photo centers, to deter sick individuals from taking pictures of children and child pornography. They should stop selling large quantities of dog food to curtail the operations of puppy mills. The list could go on....
I'm fine with their decision...never bought my guns or ammo from them, anyway. What disturbs me the most, is that here is another free capital enterprise that is choosing to restrict law abiding gun owners, and also "pushing" Congress to enact stricter gun legislation. Then they try to piss down our backs and tell us it's raining. They want us "sportsman and hunters" to continue to buy our licenses, shotgun shells, and Henry 30-30's (wait...couldn't that be considered a short barrel rifle?) at their stores, but not .223, .308, 5.56mm ammo. They say they care about "shooting sport enthusiasts" but will no longer sell 9mm, .40, .45ACP handgun ammo? The next time there is a stabbing in the news, I certainly hope Walmart makes the decision to remove all their hunting knives and kitchen cutlery from their stores.
Keep on supporting them though....they know what's best for you, just like our government.
Ill still go there, occasionally, for specific things. The same day pickup on cards you make online with your own pics (Xmas cards for example) is awesome, and occasionally you need band aids or what not.
I can't see stuff about wal-mart though and not think of this parody song:
Funny you should mention Academy Sports. In late week's advertisement they were high lighting dove hunting because dove season opens Sept. 1 for most of Texas. In the ad. there was a family out dove hunting that were dressed in camo, had camo bucket stools and a mojo decoy but NO GUNS.
Uhhhhh, Walmart said no OPEN carry.... nothing about concealed carry, Which I will continue to do so ... never did like open carry for myself ... I dont want ANYONE to know I have it until needed .... I dont purchase a lot there, but I just got my Hitch Hauler there, I have purchased some shotgun shells there in the past, towels, pans, dishes, Truck Battery, etc... as said, I will continue to conceal carry there, when and IF I go there ...
So no .30-30... those Winchester Trapper rifles are just a little too handy....
I don’t really blame them, though. The strongest voices among the hard-core gun enthusiasts are sounding more and more right-wing all the time.... right or wrong, they looked at their customer base and decided not to cater to people who are likely to intimidate their regular customers.
And nothing says “I want you to fear me” quite like open carry....
I just got back from the supermarket (Strack's), I CC'd and no on knew I had it on me ... stopped at Ace Hardware, no one knew it was on me ... went over to Jewel to check on T Bone prices, no one knew it was on me ... stopped to get gas, no one knew it was on me.... get the idea ....
In today's world, if I were a business as big as Walmart, I'd probably consider not selling the gun versus the ammo. One day, someone will ask to "See that Rifle" and slide their own bullets in it and, start killing people in the store. Its going to happen. I truly can't believe it hasn't already. Mainly because its a lot less likely to have a weapon on you that needs ammo then to have ammo on you without a weapon.
I don't blame any store for making decisions they feel is best suiting as long as they don't take a crusade to interfere with our Bill of Rights. As long as they don't campaign to increase gun laws, I'll do as I always have. Buy from them when I must. If they do come out against the 2nd Amendment, then I will shop elsewhere for things I can't get from local small business owners.
This might be a good thing for local gun stores too.
Walmart is an extension of chinese debt they hold on us.
The largest Company on earth. Post more earnings in a single day than any other company. What do they sell ?
I dont do boycotts and dont buy HG Ammo from them. Only HG Ammo i do buy is high grade man stoppers. You are truely skrewed if you have to defend yourself with handloads. Shoot a chit ton of handloads but they all end up in a berm.
Waldo World is what it is....... place for old guys on the blue pill to pick up ladies after Baptist Sermon on Sundays. Those guys always head straight for the sweeties with bunny slippers and yoga pants on.
Albeit private and within Walmart's purview, this decision is like the governmental gun control proposals: it would not have stopped the past attacks and does nothing to address the potentiality of future tragedies. Foolish and counter-productive.
I carry no matter what! Unless I have had a beer, than no way. And I don't drink and drive... Ever. But when I carry, and it's almost always, you can't even tell I am carrying with my Sig. I would rather have it and not need it, than not have it and really need it! I guess I didn't see the sign without my glasses on:/ I have bought 22LR from Walmart, but not much else. It seems that Everyone these days is all about being PC, extra sensitive and liberal... No Thanks, Not my thing! As my daddy use to tell me, better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6!
I really have no coment on the ammo thing I reload my ammo but my wife works at Wal-Mart & every Sunday the parking lot is full of busses that carry the immigrant produce workers. I have had several discussions with my wife & she assures me that she has escape routes & hiding places. also employees can't carry not even concealed on store property which I feel is bs. but also understandable
Well within their rights to ask folks not to open carry, and they can choose what they want to sell or not sell. That's freedom. Just like you can choose where or where not to shop. I shop to get most bang for my buck. Many times this means walmart. I just bought some ammo there this morning.
There is really a lot of hammering Chinese products. How many shop at Harbor Freight who has ridiculously low prices, sales coupons freebies. I buy a ton of truck items, deer camp items and shop items there.
They do not have a concealed weapon policy-every aisle in the store has tools and items that can kill.
THERE IS NO BAN OF OPEN CARRY at Walmart & Kroeger. They are asking folks not to open carry. CCW permitted. Bowsite is a no spin zone. The liberals like to spin, but I didn't expect it out of gun owners. As Bill O'Reilly used to say "The spin stops here"

The dishonesty gets to me. I have yet to hear what guns were actually used in many of the recent shootings. The media immediately reports AR "Style" or AK "Style" but never says what it actually was. I believe their plan is to throw those words out there enough to make the general population think AR's and AK's are evil so that a ban can get backing. Walmart stops selling "short barrel rifle ammunition"... What the hell is that other than a ploy to target AR's, or a response to the media's targeting of AR's?
Ever notice the ding chime when you walk into walmart with a gun? I don't open carry. I live in new York, where people's feelings are more important than rights. But I do carry concealed. Not sure how it works. I only hear it with my medium framed or larger guns. My little NAA 22 mag doesn't make it go off.
I carry for a purpose, and that is personal protection. When I think of open carry, I think of it for the same purpose, personal protection, but with a side arm. Not with a rifle or shotgun slung over my shoulder. I think most sensible people feel the same. I think open carry of any long gun as almost brandishing and to get attention. Well they got attention.
Pistols are the short game and work fine for personal protection perimeters. A long gun doesn't really serve that purpose, imo. If the person/people you are protecting yourself from, are that far away, you have other options. Why would you need to shoot anyone from that far away for personal protection? How do you know the one you see is the bad guy? You most likely cannot see the whole picture anyway. Maybe you would be shooting someone trying to shoot the bad guy.
I think these people are looking for attention, maybe even trying to prove a point. Not such a big deal when no weapon is involved, but bring a weapon into it, and I don't think I want to be around those types.
I choose to carry for me and my family, not for any other purpose. Not saying I wouldn't use it in active shooter situation, but I'm gonna be damned sure of my target if the trigger ever has to be pulled. And hopefully it never does.
Back to Walmart, they are making a decision they feel is best for their business. Like it or not, it is their right. With rights being taken from us on a regular basis, I will not punish anyone for exercising theirs. Even the guys walking around open carrying long guns, but I would rather take a wide birth than be near them. Not afraid or scared, just making an educated decision.
We’ve become an emotion driven, politically correct society that really doesn’t care about facts - from gun/ammo sales to the wolf reintroductions, etc...
Over 10,000 people were killed last year by drunk drivers. Around 400 were killed using rifles. So Walmart stops selling handgun and “AR” ammo but continues to sell alcohol - makes perfect sense to me...
We have become a pandering society, I hope you all remember that come voting time. You can help reject the nonsense, or you can embrace it.
As far as Walmart and others, as businesses they have to go where they believe their future is. I have not seen their books, trends and risks. I never used Walmart for hunting stuff as plenty of other more hunter dedicated outlets exist. Amazon has great prices as does MidwayUSA, two very, very contrasting choices. My smart money says get the most for the least price and keep the money in my savings account.
i will cc where allowed. shop wally as wife insists. as for china, tractor supply has alum elec fence wire for 45 bucks a reel made in china...25 bucks a reel for steel wire made usa! maybe trump is right about tariffs.
I agree with the please no open cary. I lived in central Florida for a few years & some of the farmers carried single action Rutgers mostly for snakes & hogs. also the same in front Royal va was not uncommon for an oldtimer to have a Blackhawk on his side. but in general it makes me uneasy to see anyone other than a law enforcement person openly displaying a handgun. personally I feel that they 're looking for or want a confrontation. we rarely eat out but one restaurant we go to this guy is always there with a glock on his side & it makes me nervous
The Walmart by me hasn't sold guns other than BB and pellet guns for years. I think most of the Twin City and suburban stores all do the same. You had to go out of the larger cities for them to carry firearms.
I love this country We have almost 50 posts on a thread about how and when to carry a gun in retail establishments”
I love this country, too... I’m just a more than a little concerned by the lack of respect and consideration for others which has become so common these days... Would your grandmother approve of open carry in the grocery store, or would she tell you to grow the hell up?
Open carry when you’re out hunting or working in places with hogs and snakes and coyotes, etc is one thing. Around town, it’s just being a bully.
Seeing a gun has never made me nervous, but I have no urge to be around a guy who feels it's a good idea to carry a rifle in public places to prove a point. Lots of red flags pop up when you see "that guy". I have no interest in letting the government tell me that I can't carry though.
You have states openly passing state law that limits LE to do policing. When this occurs in a free Republic free men have the rights to carry and protect life limb property and family anywhere anytime with any type firearm.
This nation is changing. Walmart should see this and lead with “we live with and for freedom, shop with us, shop with a hog leg on your hip or Colt slung”.
Their will be places that do this and they will win in their communities.
You old Baby Boomers need to see that the world changes and adapt to them. Way of the gun is back and its places like CT, CA, NJ, NY and nutty cities like Chitown, Phillie, Houston, SF, LA that are bringing us back to the way of the gun.
Its here , its now and its undeniable.
So, Walmart Shoppers get a weapon, protect your liberty.
Guess we need a disclaumer here now? These are opinions and do not reflect upon Bowsite’ as an entity.
Unfortunately, Walmart cant a see the obvious reality that they are probably increasing their chances of another incident. A crazy evil person planning on doing something at a Walmart was just thrown a bone.
guns don't make me nervous iv got a bunch of em. the mental stability of a person that chooses to open Cary at the China buffet makes me nervous. I drive a trash container rolloff truck & Mon-Wed-Fri. I dump all the cans at the trash dump sites so I'm regularly in undesirable neighborhoods in the early am. & I always have my walther in my pocket & I personally feel that the only part of a personal defence handgun anyone should see is the fire coming out of the barrel
“Guns don't make me nervous iv got a bunch of em. The mental stability of a person that chooses to open carry at the China buffet makes me nervous.”
A weapon raises the stakes in any interaction. Letting anybody know that one is present before it’s necessary to use it only makes it more likely that it’ll be needed. So open carry is simply inviting a lethal conflict.
And guess what? At least half of the people involved in a shooting end up on the wrong end of the deal. I can’t say I like those odds...
I know my minister conceal carries. Makes me know our church is safer than many. He's an awesome individual & works with our law enforcement lots. We also have 2 local police that are regulars. I'm guessing they CC.
Do you see a lot of people open carrying in VA? I have spent a lot of time through the years in VA and never saw anybody doing that. In fact here in Texas I bet I have not seen 6 people open carry here since the law was put in place. Just curious
no not really in front Royal va there used to be some old timers that carried single action rugers. & there's a hardware / gun store that I go to & one of the employees always has a block on his side. & that's just fine with me however once every few months we go to the China buffet. & more likely than not there's a guy there with a pistol on his side & it just makes me nervous. I find myself trying to figure if he's mentally stable or not & I spend as much time keeping an eye on him as I do eating my shrimp & crab legs
I was trying to think here where I have seen open carry. Cabelas, two gas stations, tractor supply and a couple of restaurants. I've only done it once or twice and that was coming off the ranch and going to town. Always went back to concealed when I hit town
We used to stay near Or in Font Royal on the way to Harrisburg back in the day
"’So open carry is simply inviting a lethal conflict.’ I would like to see any facts to back up this asinine assertion.”
Just because you didn't think it through doesn’t mean it’s wrong.... And just because you know a big word doesn’t mean you know the difference.
Let’s say you open carry at the China Buffet. Bad Guy walls in to rob the place. He has a gun but no need to use it as long as he’s in Control. But you have a gun and now he knows it. NOW he has one EXTREMELY good reason to start shooting and you’re #1 on his list. If you had carried concealed, he would have cleaned out the till and left.
Or you have a guy who is on a mission to rack up a body count. If he sees you’re armed, you’re once again #1 on the target list. Carrying concealed, you might have had time to take cover, plan and act.
OPEN CARRY is what’s asinine. Either that or the training they give cops is 100% wrong.
Cops have zero reason to carry concealed because..... OBVIOUSLY... they’re IN UNIFORM.
A civilian carrying concealed is best off acting like the last person in the world that a Bad Guy needs to think about.... because that’s how you have a chance to walk away....
Most guys open carrying are trying to make a statement and usually appear nervous in doing so. The highway patrolman that taught my concealed carry class years ago had something to say about open carry. He stated that most law enforcement officers view open carry folks as someone having a chip on their shoulder. I couldn't agree more. The only time I open carry is while I'm hunting or working in the country. If you're going to carry in public, hide it.
the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun that's indisputable. I personally believe that your better off the bad guy not knowing your carrying until you have the opportunity to take action. this would probably explain why so few I'm sure easily less than 1% open Cary
GF; Despite your insistence you have provided no numbers to back up anything you have said. You have merely hypothesized.
Put yourself in the place of someone bent on doing evil. Are you going to choose a place where you know everyone is carrying a gun because you can see them? Or are you going to choose a soft target? That is how hypothesizing works. No real facts, and we can go back and forth on what might or might not happen.
The facts are that you have none to back up your claim. You do a disservice in stating your opinion as fact.
BTW, NC is an open carry state, I know a few cops that open carry out of uniform all the time....either way, I couldn't care less about the opinion of a few cops. Perhaps you would do better to trust the facts instead of the opinion of a few people.
I'm on the eastern shore of va & I can honestly say that in the last several years I have seen less than a dozen different non law enforcement individual's open Cary & it's such a rare thing. that look at this nut job is always the first thought that enters my mind.
