TV nonsense

So, against my better judgement, I decided to watch Greg Ritz on this ridiculous outdoor show called “Hunt Masters” . The only reason it peaked my interest is he was hunting big Moose in the Yukon. I have hunted moose with a bow in the Yukon and BC and have been fortunate enough to harvest a 60” moose in BC. Both of these hunts were hunts of a life time, harvest or not. I realize these TV whores make their living by sponsorships, but when I saw this idiot spraying his sponsored product into the air like it was going to jam the nose of an animal that has never been exposed to a foreign smell! Well just stupid for me to sit here and watch it. I will continue to watch The Meateater, but not any others. My fault, won’t happen again.
Thanks for sharing. Nice to have a choice on what to watch.
You site the reason why he did what he did so I don’t understand why you sound sooo angry.
Was it nose jammer? If so, that stuff does work and works well. If it's a copycat products I can speak about that, but,I have used nose jammer and have had success with it. Give it try and see for yourself.

I get what you're saying. I like Meateater and Stuck n the Rut and a few others like Randy Newberg that hunt public land. I've stopped watching most others
The shows are not great but the music makes up for it;
Try this classic on for size............
Welcome to the drop zone, got you in the crosshairs Once I pull this trigger, they're gonna haul you outta here Hunting is a lifestyle, survival of the fittest We on a hunt, what you want, come on Now you in a drop zone
[Verse 1: Colt Ford] Drop down, exhale, one shot, one kill We do it like this all day, drop zone y'all we don't play We chase them big old hogs, big trucks with old bird dogs It's all American to hunt and tote a gun Climb up in that tree stand, got a muzzle loader in my hand Big buck walkin' into sight, game over drop zone good night.
We hunt them grizzly bears, kodiaks, blacks and brown Wanna see where the drop zone is Follow them tracks to the edge of town That's where you'll find me, all my folks behind me We do it like every day, God bless the USA No way we'll ever stop, we make that big game drop.
Outdoors is where we roll, now welcome to the drop zone
[Chorus: JJ Lawhorn] Welcome to the drop zone, got you in the crosshairs Once I pull this trigger, they're gonna haul you outta here Hunting is a lifestyle, survival of the fittest We on a hunt, what you want, come on Now you in a drop zone
I don't watch any of them cause I have antenna tv I refuse to piss away 100$ a month for tv. but your story reminds me of something that myself & my buddy laughing so hard. it was muzzleloader season & on an adjacent farm this guy was laying in the middle of a soybean field every few minutes he would sit up look around & squirt a big puff of wind direction powder into the air the wind was blowing a steady 10-15. i had snot coming out my nose i was laughing so hard
I am not sure how you were able to make it to your keyboard after being exposed to this atrocity. I am glad you did though.

I remember ol' Greg got himself in a little hot water about 10 years ago with his operation in Kentucky. Him and his partner paid some pretty healthy fines.
Paid some pretty hefty fines is an understatement fines were $50,000.

I started watching YouTube hunts - mostly on tracking bucks. There are some good ones out there (Jeff Doyle comes to mind). And in some cases these folks are trying to be celebrities (Rodney Elmer & Mountain Deer). However, when tracking there doesn't seem to be as much means for faking it or not showing the ups and downs. They videos are of different lengths and using my smart TV or a Chromecast, I can just throw them up on the TV. If I don't think that I will like the content (How I shoot 3 bucks in 35 seconds), I just skip it.
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Mr. Whitetail. That level of trauma can cause lasting effects, even PTSD. Hang in there, bud!
My favorite is born and raised outdoors on YouTube, dont watch the outdoor channel a whole lot anymore
I stopped watching this crap ages ago. Hunter shoots big buck. Buck runs off with arrow barely stuck in him. Cut to hunter standing over dead deer. Oh really? With that piss-poor arrow penetration? There's a day of anxious blood trailing and maybe they never find that deer. Not shown. Good friends arguing and dam' near coming to blows as the trail grows faint. They never show that. One guy ready to give up and whining that he's not in his stand hunting. Nope, they didn't go there either. Realistic? Horse apples!
Steve Rinella is always out there pimping that First Lite gear like it will hide him from the animals. Better rethink that show too Mr. Whitetail, hate to see you get misled into thinking Meateater is different.
Hey Jaq, full disclosure. At the time of my online rant I was about four crown royals in, so maybe my rage was a little over the top and somewhat alcohol fueled. I was actually mad at myself for watching more than anything else. LB, I’m glad you have had success with NJ. I myself prescribe to the less scent, the better, but to each his own. I am pretty confident however, that using an aerosol can of anything 30 yards from a Yukon moose is probably counterproductive. At least the audience got a clear look at the product label as he held it up and sprayed it at the moose like bear repellent. I feel much better now. Thanks.
I only watch a few select shows anymore, mostly those done by friends and acquaintances whom I respect. Even then, most are little more than heavily-edited infomercials. One of my friends, a famous bowhunter and writer I won't name, HATES making TV hunts but is required to do it by his employer. With some of the others, after a few Crowns, my rant might be even more vituperous! ;-)
I've been involved in a few made-for-TV hunts. And I agree, they are mostly fiction. We put one of our "celebrity" hunters on the biggest buck we had on any of our leases. He got a bad case of buck fever when the buck walked under his stand, then he made a horrible shot. We spent 2 days looking for that deer, but never found it. When the show aired, they showed a bunch of footage of the monster Muley he had wounded, but claimed it never got close enough for an ethical shot. Lying SOB.
Matt
A good friend of mine used to make hunting videos in the 90's. He's the best woodsman and deer killer I've ever known. He's always said that you can't believe a single thing you see on the videos anymore. They had ways of editing bad shots frame by frame with film back when he was doing it. Today with digital they can make anything up they want.
For those that want to see some of the best content going on Youtube- check out The Hunting Public. Younger guys with a passion to hunt whitetails and turkeys. They have been putting out some down to earth videos and hope they don't get caught up in the sponsor BS.
