Pull Behind Camper

Looking for a pull behind for off road camping and hunting camper that sleeps at least 6. Any recommendations?
What’s your definition of “off road”?
...or one adult male and five adult fe.....aww, never mind. ;)
If the females are like my wife it better have a good crapper
Off road/Sleeps 6
I hope those 6 don’t mind sleeping close together and I wouldn’t be serving baked beans very often.
I have a 27 footer that has three queen sized beds. One in the master, one from folding the rear bench seats down and another that lowers down from above that rear bed with an electric motor. During dinner I just move it up out of the way and throw the table there unless it’s summer and I’m eating outside.
It’s a toy hauler too so when I’m on the road I can load a 4 wheeler or better yet the Harley and take it along.
I don’t think you’ll sleep 6 in anything smaller but I wouldn’t be taking it very far off road.
Yes, females too and plenty of ground clearance.
You want a pull behind that's long enough to sleep six adults with plenty of ground clearance? Good luck! Most campers these days are designed for campgrounds. Just not alot of ground clearance. The longer it is, the less you'll have on the back end. Try to go through too big of a dip where the rear tires of your truck go down too far, you can damage your tongue jack. Then you'll really have problems.
Even a relatively small dip can wreck havoc on the plumbing, as well as the stabilizer jacks. I've seen plumbing and rear bumpers ripped off. My buddy lost three of his stabilizer jacks when he tried to go through a dip. Had a heck of a time getting him out of there.
I have a 32' Grand Design Imagine Bunkhouse model that comfortably sleeps 8 adults. I had a 3" lift put on and I STILL have to be careful where I pull it.
Enclosed trailer with a wall tent inside.............
Off road trailers are made, just google until you find one. I’ve seen a couple in my travels but they ain’t on every lot.
Pop up is the way to go for that. It’s gonna be tight but you can do it. Ours sleeps 6 adults if needed. We’ve done more but it was with kids. Easy to tow and you can get them with pretty good clearance or lift them a bit for a little more. I don’t think you’ll find a hard side that can go “off road” and sleep 6. Maybe I’m wrong though. I have 4 boys and it’s perfect for our crew.
I said I have a 27 footer but I didn’t say I take it elk hunting. I don’t plan on it either. A wall tent is all you need.
Whatever trailer you get, there is always the option to flip the axles to get a bunch more clearance
cn, I did that on a utility-atv type trailer once. Worked fine. But made me think, didn't a few years back one of our better known Bowsiters sadly flip the whole damn camper??... :(
I'm a homophobe, not even the biggest most expensive motorhome in the world has enough (separate) beds for 6 adult males that I've ever seen. I like the wall tent idea better.
not mine
not mine
My wife and I do a lot of rv-ing and go to several RV shows a year and I’ve seen several different models of “off road rv’s”. I don’t remember seeing one that would sleep 6. You might be better off looking at toy haulers. The back space of most of them have bunks and are made to sleep more. But as others have said your still probably looking at a 27 footer.
You can flip the axle on a pop up like Brad said. They are so low anyways, not an issue. With a standard hard side.......seems risky to me! I think Lou flipped one awhile back no?
^^^^^^Easy to flip one when all the girls run to one side ;-)
We have 2- 5th wheels. Mine is a little 18', old and will sleep 3 if the bottom bed sleepers will tolerate it that I flipped the axles on for more ground clearance and it has never felt unstable. Our big 5th wheel (34') has 2 beds but when anyone asks how many it sleeps and there is a chance they would ask to stay we always say 2.
I did flip mine on the interstate but it was a freak thing. The pavement had settled in two big dips on the right side of the right lane. The State Trooper told me they lose trailers and campers all the time right there because neither ADOT or the Feds will fix that bad spot.
OTOH, I had flipped the shackles on the single axle, so that added top-heaviness may have exacerbated the problem.
Drycreek- Speaking of girls on one side.....If memory serves me well, I believe Lou's favorite poster of the Bear archery chick did survive that carnage. I think she was interested in someone asking her about archery??
Look at Trailmanor. I had a model 2720 for over 10 years. I was able to take it almost anywhere I wanted to, due to it's good ground clearance, and it would comfortably sleep 6 people. We've had up to 8 people with a few being kids. 40 gallon water tank also was great.
SBH, yes she did! She's now in my new camp trailer!
Ha:) Good deal! Glad she survived.
I have the same rig as BigDog21 and I love it.....high ground clearance, queen size beds for 2, heat, hot water, stove, electric lights, awning, shower, fridge....I have added a 2" receiver welded to the back so i can install a motorcycle carrier along with the quad in front...M/C rack for a Honda FatCat ATV or just more storage (big ice chest)..Love it !!
As a side note, check the tightness of the p-trap under the sink once a year. They come loose after miles of dirt roads etc.
I disconnected all the water functions in mine:) no more winterizing!! These new campers are getting too damn fancy for me. It’s a glorified heated/dry comfortable sleeping space as far as I’m concerned. We don’t spend any time hanging out in it. Nice to come back to warm dry spot to eat and sleep in though. Love that pop up!
Mule Power's camper sounds very similar to mine. I elk hunted 2 states and deer hunted 2 states out of mine this fall and pulled it to Sturgis in August and I loved it! It would easily sleep 6 and haul an ATV, side by side or Harley.
I built this 17 footer off of a 1968 deck.,has a atv door built to double as a ramp.i can pull it inside to travel .one bed ,room for 4 big dogs too.$1900 invested so far..if you handy ,build one..
