Wife's breast Cancer Surgery

I know many of you have been praying for Mossy Oak prostaff member Kami McGann (my wife) with her battle with Breast Cancer. Thought I would update. She is done with chemo. The tumor did shrink (good news), surgery is now scheduled for Jan. 24th. Not out of the woods just yet and can't wait to get back into the woods after a year off from bowhunting. Your continued prayers are appreciated. After surgery will be 3 weeks of radiation for 15 minutes every day. She did kick off the new year with a New Years morning Goose hunt with me. I loved every second in that pit with her. (pictured) All of your prayers have been greatly appreciated!
Happy to hear it! Hope the surgery goes well.
Good news for the new year Scott! We'll continue sending our prayers for Kami, yourself and the rest of your family through these challenges. God bless!
Encouraging news, Mt.man! Continued prayers for your wife as well as your entire family!

God is driving. All she needs to do is have faith in his will and hold on. The rest of the family too. Cancer is as hard on the family as it is on the person fighting it.
Keep the faith. Keep the course. And, Remember to glorify God for the healing to come.
Scott, great news! Keep the fire burning, you both will pull through! God Bless!

Prayers sent. Great news that she's responding well to treatment. Keep us updated.
Surgery went super smooth. The Surgeon said when she got in there that 5 lymph nodes where all clustered together so she didn't have to do any extra cutting. Now we wait a few days for the pathology results. Thanks all!

Positive vibes to you both. Glad it went well. Best to you both.
So glad for you all, .we just have to keep praying, God bless u-all. Prayers from MO.
Well here we go again. The pathology results came back and the Tumor was alive and full of Cancer cells. 7 months of chemo did nothing to it. The good news is the Tumor is out of her body. The bad news is there is a real possibility the cancer has spread to other parts of her body as 1 of the 5 lymph nodes removed also showed Cancer cells. We are basically starting all over with a new type of Oral chemo and many scans to see if they see any cancer anywhere else. Pretty frustrating news to say the least. We know our GOD is bigger than Cancer and we will praise and trust him even on the dark days.
Thanks for your prayers, we are going to need all of them!

Hello Friends,
Again I just want to say THANK YOU for all of your prayers for my wife. In May & June she went through a strong regiment of radiation. She was a warrior fighting thru the burns and such. All while still taking Oral Chemo at the same time. My wife is simply amazing as she has not had a single week of work with less than 40 hours worked since this whole battle started over a year ago.
A little note, my wife is a Medical Scientist and in fact she is the Lab manager for our local hospital. This whole Covid-19 crap has had her doing zoom meetings everyday on our way to radiation and back. 90 mile round trip every morning in May & June. Not to mention homeschooling then working until 8-9pm daily.
Now that Radiation is done they gave her 3 weeks off to recover. This past week she started back on her chemo for 2 more months. We have scans scheduled for Aug. 25th and we are praying for an "ALL CLEAR". Kami is super excited as she and I drew an amazing zone for controlled Archery Elk starting Aug. 30th. It's a chance to harvest a real dandy bull and I have not seen her so excited in a long time. We need to get this cancer behind us and have an amazing Elk hunt.
Thanks again for all of your prayers. Charlie, thank you for thinking of my wife with your kids P.M.'S!!!
Scott "Scooter" McGann www.scootersyouthhunting.camp

Did she have a BRCA test done? Next month will mark ten years since my lil sis passed away at age 49. She tested positive but thankfully all three of her daughters were negative with 50% odds. Was extremely aggressive she didn’t have a chance. Wishing the best for your wife.
I thank her for her service during these trying times especially under those circumstances. My wife is about 13 years cancer free after her mastectomy. Hope good results for your wife also and good hunting to both of you..........Bob

Yesterday Kami went in for her scans on her breast cancer. Our hopes were to get an all clear report, however God has a new path for our little family and we will trust him. The scan results are 2 new spots on her Lungs as well as a spot on her bones. We have more intense scans again scheduled for tomorrow, but for now it is looking like her cancer is spreading. Our little family could use some prayers.

As I lay here next to my sleeping bride, best friend, favorite hunting partner, Isaiah 40, 29-31 comes to mind.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Keep the faith brother! Lifting your family up in prayer.
Update: Well both Kami and I had shot opportunities on nice 6x6 bulls, but we both caught tree limbs (those hidden ones) and came home empty handed! We love life and love our LORD and know he will take care of us. With that out of the way here is the update.
1. From the 1st day of elk hunting I knew something was wrong. Went to the ortho and both my knees are bone on bone with micro-fracturing occurring in the joint. Dr. could not believe I was elk hunting. WELL? new left knee scheduled for Oct. 7th, and right knee scheduled for Dec. 16th.
2. Kami update. Went in for CT scan on Aug. 25th. Found spots on her lungs, Lung biopsy shows cancer has spread to her lungs. Oncologist has done all options for my bride. Told her she has 5-10 years as it stands right now. Referred my wife to MD Anderson Research Hospital in Houston, Tx. They have told us my wife does not have the genetic marker for a clinical trial that is showing hope for her type of cancer. They are using words like EXTEND or PROLONG her days with us. Those are hard words to swallow as a husband. Right now there is no cure for her triple negative cancer. We trust the LORD with all of it. Cancer research is advancing daily and if we can get 5-10 years with Kami then we have 2 prayers. 1. The rapture happens and we all get new bodies in Heaven. 2. Research finds a cure for her.
Thanks for all your support and prayers the last couple years. I am now getting ready for knee replacement #1 then my bride flies out 4 days later to Houston to talk with the Dr.'s down there. I will be hobbling around with 2 young boys to care for while she is down there for a week. FUN FUN FUN!
Again, Thank you Bowsite and shoot straight!
Good to hear you both got out hunting and enjoyed your self. Prayers sent for these other set backs.
You both have great faith and courage keep fighting! Prayers send.
In the words of Jim Valvano “Don’t give up don’t ever give up”Hopes and prayers from our family to yours.Good luck to both of you Lewis
Scott: Both is you are strong. Thx for the update.
PS: Glad you took those special tags to the field.
Keep the faith. God can make cancer disappear with nothing more then his will.
I’ve read the Bible a lot. There is still parts of it that I can’t understand well. However, what I did understand is the reality that God will grant us our prayers if it’s in his will to do so. And, that we must never forget to glorify him for doing so.
Your wife and whole family has been praying on this. Many of us here have done so as well. Never stop. Never give up. And give God the glory.
Love and prayers from Mississippi!!! May God be glorified through your trials!!!
Not the news anyone wanted to hear Scott, we'll keep praying for Kami, yourself, and the rest of the family. Speedy recovery for you on the knee replacements, you'll be thankful you did it after you recover!

I love your outlook and approach to this trying period. WRT to your Prayer #2......new medical advances and techniques seem to happen daily/weekly. I've mentioned this before and will touch on it again. Since I went thru my successful treatments, newer and better chemo cocktails have come out. Take it a day at a time and keep the faith!
Praying for healing and peace for you and your wife and family.
Praying for you guys. never give up hope. Co workers wife was in the same situation and after chemo and radiation she is now in remission. Sound like you both hve a greater attitude and positive outlook on life. Again continued prayers! Never doubt that power
Still sending prayers! You both hang tough!
Man Brother, I have no words other than the Faith and words of Christ!
Scott and Kami,
Be Faithful, Be Strong, Fear Nothing! By His Grace are we saved and delivered!!! He can heal all things if that's His will! I pray for His deliverance, healing and peace for you both!!
As said above, NEVER GIVE UP, Never quit fighting! Live by faith, not words!!!
I believe you are in ALL our prayers, and in prayer is strength!!!
God Bless!!!!
Well our Awesome Charlie Rehor reminded me with a thoughtful P.M. that I had not updated all of you amazing prayer warriors about my bowhunting partner and wife. Her cancer battle has been a tough road/trial for our family. Since about mid Jan. she has been suffering bad headaches/back pain. Now last week an MRI, CT Scan, Bone Scan and Spinal Tap has showed no reason for her pain. Frustrated to say the least. With all of those scans we did get news we didn't want to hear. Her breast cancer has spread to her lungs (20 spots) as well as her Liver (3 lesions) after 7 different types of chemo, radiation and surgery. The oncologist here in Boise, Id and the specialist Oncologist in Houston, Tx have both agreed to suspend her chemo as it's not working after trying 7 different types. The only option left is to try to find an immunotherapy clinical trial to see if that would work for her type of cancer. There is one in Houston but my wife doesn't want to be away from her son's for months on end. That trial would take her away for periods of time and she doesn't want that. The Boise Dr. has reached out to the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake, Ut. to see if they have any trials going on that my wife would be a candidate for. We are waiting for their answer.
Thank you all for checking in. I'm at a loss for words and frustrated seeing my wife hurting so badly. She's been told she would probably last 5-7 years with no further treatment. The Oncologist in Houston again assured us they are researching each day to try and find a cure for her triple negative diagnosis. My beautiful Bride and I both know this world is not our forever home. We have given this over to GOD, we love and trust his will for our lives. Inside my wedding band is the words "Hunting Partners for LIFE". I hurt for her, but I know GOD's got her and his will for us is perfect.
Your prayers are comfort and I thank you!
Praying for y’all and your wonderful family! Stay strong, God performs miracles every day! God bless!

Just trust in Jesus and know that your beautiful bride and you and your family were born to live forever under God's care, no matter where that is, on earth or in heaven. And in the meantime, realize that God does perform miracles, and I pray to Jesus that he performs one on her to heal completely now, so she can live out her earthly life with you all before she enters her eternal one. Keep faith in him, He will not let you down. In Jesus name I pray, amen. That arrowhead necklace is gorgeous, and a beautiful symbol of divine power and longevity. Keep wearing it Kami!

And yet,
Can only imagine the blessedness your wife is experiencing now with the Lord.
So sorry to hear this. Life is fragile and it’s hard to understand some times why good people die and bad people live on. God has a plan to which we are not privy. My prayers for you and your family.

Scott, like many here, I don't know you or your family personally, but this journey that you took us through on this thread has affected me very deeply, and I know others as well. My heart goes out to you, your boys, and entire family on your loss. I pray for you all to help you get through this loss and for Kami that she is in everlasting peace. God Bless.
Kami Jo McGann 08/08/1978- 02/19/2021 (42) Kami Passed away at home holding her husband’s hand with her precious sons present on Friday Feb. 19 after a courageous two year battle with Breast Cancer. Kami (Kay-me) came into this world as the 1st child to Bill & Karron Pahl (Parma, Id.) and grew up in Ontario, Or. She grew up with 2 brothers Cody(Christi) Austin, Tx and Joe (Megan,Kailee & Addy) Parma, Id. She graduated from High School in Ontario, Or. Kami got her bachelor’s degree from Western Oregon University and then a 2nd degree in Medical Technology from Idaho State University. This launched her into her career that she truly loved. Kami worked extremely hard and quickly moved up to becoming the Lab Manager/Lead Scientist for Valor Health Hospital. She loved her team and everyone at Valor Health. Kami made it her mission to create a culture of LOVE at Valor Health and that showed itself with everyone pouring their love and care into Kami in her last days. In 2007 Kami met the love of her life, Scott McGann. Immediately she took up Scott’s passion of shooting a bow. She completed her Bowhunters Education on 8/29/07 and on 08/31/07 she harvested her first archery Elk of many. Making many bowhunters jealous of her. 01/04/2008 Kami and Scott became one in marriage. They lived life and exemplified the words Kami had inscribed inside Scott’s wedding band “Hunting Partners For LIFE”. In the spring of 2008 Kami was re-born when she discovered Jesus and was baptized and dedicated herself as a servant to our mighty GOD. She used her scientist brain to study the Bible and dove deep into creating a personal relationship with her Heavenly father. To know Kami after this part of her life was to truly know Jesus, her smile was a preview into heaven. July of 2010 one of the greatest accomplishments of her life occurred when she became Mommy. Micah was born and the glow and dedication to this new role was amazing to watch. Then in January of 2013 her 2nd son came into the world, Nathan. Kami was an amazing mom to these 2 boys pouring her love and time into making sure all 3 of her boys (Scott included) lived the best life possible. Kami made sure her boys knew her Jesus and was so proud/happy when both boys chose to be baptized into forever. Even in her final months she made a point of ensuring in everyone she met that if her disease got worse and they wanted more of her. Then they better get to know her Jesus because she would be by HIS side for eternity. At Kami’s request there will be no immediate funeral. However, later this spring there will be a celebration of life for Kami Jo McGann at Valor Health Hospital. It will be a small memorial service with an open-house type of potluck dinner celebrating an amazing woman who graced all of us with love. In lieu of flowers at this time Scott, Micah and Nathan asked that if you feel moved to memorialize Kami there is 2 ways. Make a donation in honor of Kami Jo McGann to Scooter’s Youth Hunting Camp www.scootersyouthhunting.camp or ASCLS-Idaho

Very touching, Scott. My heart goes out to you and the boys. Went through a similar, but sudden tragedy just over 20 years ago with a 11 year old son crazy about his fun Mom. Prayers to you, and I know Kami will give you strength through this.
Prayers for the family. Faith, Love and Family are things to be learned from this thread.
Scott, Very sorry for your loss. My little sister suffered the same fate ten years ago at age 49. I know it’s been a rough two years for you. Was Kami tested for the BRCA gene? My sister tested positive but luckily it was not passed on to her three daughters nor anyone else. It’s good information to know.
Zim yes and it was negative
Thanks for sharing the above post with the details that certainly validate her life. This thread has touched me more deeply than anything that I can ever recall reading. You and your family's strength is truly admirable.

The "In Memory" donations to our non-profit for Kami McGann is now up to $5,775.00 My precious Kami's legacy will be blessing kids for years to come. She was amazing! Thanks everyone!
Thought I would update a bit.
I am working with the scholarship advisor for Kami's alma matter on creating the "Kami McGann Memorial Scholarship" in their MLS (Medical Laboratory Science) program.
Our kids camp purchased 4 brand new CZ over/under shotguns for our shotgun station with money that came into our camp in memory of her. Now for many years to come every time a kids shoots one of those guns it will possible because of that beautiful warrior/human.
As of today 4/16/21 the donations that have come into our non-profit in memory of Kami McGann now has broken the $18,800 mark. Kami McGann is now the largest donor ever to our camp on our 20th Anniversary year. YAHOO!!! Praise the Lord.
