Many Chinese factories can and will make any level of quality the customer wants. A lot of the poor quality stuff imported here is due to the choices the company on our side of ocean made regarding the balance of quality vs cost.

Spot on. During the development phase with our Products, we had to keep sending the samples back, and tell them to change/upgrade materials...and fight with them about the price. Took us almost a Year for them to get it right.
Unfortunately, given the materials, there was no way we could have sold the Product if it was produced in the U.S.
Believe me, we tried to find affordable, domestic solutions...they did not exist.

Half the stuff we send the materials over there and they make into something and send it back, such as recycled metal. The US better figure out how to be self sufficient after this.We need to tax what comes over instead of whats made here

A few years ago my dad worked with a guy who has some products made in China and he had dinner with the owner of a Chinese manufacturing company that makes all sorts of stuff, including some of the Home Depot "HDX" and Lowes "Blue Hawk" tools. Over a beer, my dad asked him if he cared about the perception of Chinese stuff being 'junk', the guy said with a huge laugh "I make CRAP, and American still buy!!!"

We still build things here. I work for a company that sells to companies in China. In my experience The Chinese will pay a little extra for a product made in the USA. I took some Chinese folks shopping in Texas a few years ago and we had a hard time in the stores finding anything of quality with the made in the USA label. I don't blame the Chinese for our current situation . I blame it on our politicians for squeezing too many tax dollars from corporations. I blame it on our unwillingness to do things more efficiently. I blame it also on the American People. We have come to believe that a college education in a liberal arts field is somehow better than a trade school diploma. We can reverse the trend but it will take work. The Chinese worker is demanding a better wage so we can be competitive if we choose. It is our call on where we will go.
