Wyoming Antelope 2013
Wyoming Antelope 2013
My cousin showed up yesterday and he’d never eaten antelope so I remembered there was a small package of backstrap in the freezer from 2013. Wrapped in freezer paper. Was delicious! Then he asked about my caribou hunts and the last time I went was in 2009 with JHA at Lake Amanda. Still have a package or two of vacuum sealed hamburger meat. Again, it was delicious!

I believe wooly mammoth is available In a wet market in China. Be careful though. The after effects go beyond a little bout of flatulence.

Never call it "old".
It's just "aged". Or well aged if you prefer.....

If you could make mammoth stew tasty, that recipe would be a keeper! Nothing could save 'corpse fat', because fat goes rancid after 6 months, not 70,000 X that.

At 11 years old you definitely have me beat. I've eaten some 5+ and regularly find packages that are 3+. Good to hear it's still edible at 11!

That's good to know. The oldest I have eaten was five years. What matters is if it is in a non defrosting freezer, those frost free freezers just destroy the meat with constantly freezing and defrosting.

CPA, how was it packaged? I have some meat from 2018 thats single wrapped in butcher paper and I can absolutely tell the difference in flavor. And not in a good way.

I’ll bet they just didn’t have any BBQ sauce for it, Brotsky.

The Antelope was freezer wrapped. Did it myself. The caribou was vacuum sealed. I’ll admit they were not as good as “fresh” but both were very very good.

Found a 2015 pkg of big horn burger. Had to trim some edges as it was in a tube which I find are too easy to nick. Was a real treat covered with some blue cheese. Washed down with a Guiness foreign stout.
