Boots on the ground - REAL NEWS
General Topic

This might be a little dicey... considering there is a lot of question over what news sources are reporting is accurate, I was hoping to have us post here as a "boots on the ground report". This would be where we all report what we are actually seeing in our states (and part of state) and any nuances. Not about the science and political stuff - which will be tough because unfortunately this has been highly politicized, our own beliefs (comparing to other diseases, etc.) and general life experience tends to cloud the facts.
We're all questioning sources and news media reports because of their bias. So can we pull it off here? A purely factual reporting of what we see in our states/regions?
Here's mine (Bowsite formatting is a bit tough so I hope this looks right). New York State - Western New York This Niagara Falls not NYC) We are in good shape. We have been for the most part in comparison to NYC. We peaked a couple of months ago. Right now the local news reporting is under 2% positive but there are nuances and gaps in how those things are reported (like these are NOT hospitalizations and deaths are at zero)
Stores requires masks and social distancing. Tape lines and signage is in all stores helping people stay 6' apart. Many businesses have re-opened or can re-open in some fashion (like 25-50% capacity in restaurants), however there are some businesses that have not gotten approval (like Gyms, Movie Theaters are a couple off the top of my head). Schools don't start for about a month and a half but they have been given a path to re-open. As for masks, most people I see are wearing them. Sometimes it's a little funny as they wear them wrong (nose exposed) or they wear them in their cars when driving alone but people are generally wearing them in public.
Numbers reporting nuance #1. If you have an antibody test (to see if you've had the virus already) and are found to have antibodies you are counted as a Covid positive case - even though at the current time your are a negative case.
Numbers reporting nuance #2. If you test positive for Covid, they test you every other week until you come back negative Each time you are tested, you are counted as a new Covid positive case.
Numbers reporting nuance #3. We have 5 counties, some are rural. The regional medical centers are all in the same county. If you get tested in your county and are positive you get counted. If you have to go to the hospital (in another county) you are counted again.
Great shape here in SD all the way around. We have cases but very manageable numbers, lots of hospital capacity available, very low death rate, and the case counts are accurately reported and responded to within reason. Anyone can get tested if they feel the need at our health care facilities. The few liberals we have are losing their minds because we have no restrictions of any type per se in the state. According to them we should all be dead already!
What happens in each state will vary according to where the population centers are at. For example.....southern Michigan is still very active, while northern Michigan and Da' Yoop not as bad as southern MI. The Gov has went to mandating face masks in certain situations. Many stores around here now have signs saying no mask, no service. Our county has seen a noticeable increase in cases....97 infections and 5 deaths. This rapid rise is attributed to the southern shackers and tourists coming up here bringing the virus with them. Like other places around the country....young folks partying and sucking face gets alot of attention.
Here in Idaho we are in Stage 4 with everything back open. Theaters and such. The infection rate at my wife's lab (Medical Scientist/Lab Manager) has taken a jump in the last 10 days from 2% to 4% but still very manageable. The largest pop base in Idaho Ada county & Canyon county as well as the largest liberal base (SUN VALLEY) have reverted back with higher rates. The mask thing is just seeing how far the Gov. can manipulate people into conforming and sadly it's working in most areas. Sheep are sheep.
And it's working. Ovine cases remain at 0%
It’s hard to get “real” facts.
We have infection, recovery and death rates for male and female, but nothing for the other twenty nine genders.
In before the lock and ban hammer.
This thread could have some real value for folks planning to travel in the coming weeks for a hunt.
Just had a check up with my cardiologist. He showed me the latest affection rate in Larmier Co, Ft . Collins Co. Affection rate up over 50% in the last few weeks.
True Brotsky.
Northern half of BC has not had a single death yet and no new cases since sometime in June.
In my county in NW Ok we’ve had 3 confirmed cases. Back in May a 40 year old man that barely knew anything was wrong. Recently an upper 80 year old couple with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel went in for other issues, came out with a positive corona test and still haven’t noticed a symptom in 3 weeks. I saw them at their great granddaughters ball game this weekend. They had their masks on their chin and no one cared. . ;) . A grandmother of my cousin has it in a neighboring county. She’s 96 and in a nursing home. They tested the whole nursing home and she is positive. That was 15 days ago and she’s not noticed anything yet. That’s my boots on the ground experienced. I still don’t know anyone that’s died or even struggled with it. I have heard of many that died “with” it in the more populated counties. Lots of federal funding tied to a corona death.
We are in Ventura County north of LA in So Cal. We have seen a slight rise. Everybody is wearin a mask. I gave up and wear mine just for their piece of mind. I do feel like people don't know who I am so I can see how the masks and face coverings give all the "CITY RATS" a little extra courage even when people are watchin. Just means we need to be a little smarter and a lot more aggressive when it comes to defend ourselves.
My county in Minnesota has yet to report a positive, tourist season is in full swing and there’s people here..... maybe more than normal
Ambush- last I checked there were 58 genders on Facebook and some articles list over 70 different genders. Try to keep up.

Shrink the map to get the whole US, then click on your county. Keep in mind as we find out, different places tally the numbers differently. For our friends up north in Canada....108155 cases and 8790 deaths. I have no idea how they tally their numbers.
So Paul in Larmier County covid is causing a 50% increase in a gentle feeling of fondness or liking or affection. That is good news! ;)
Everytime I'm out in public I have to keep this in mind. All the Barney Fiffe's of the world are coming out to write tickets if your not masked up.
Depends on what part of Larimer county. The liberal parts are showing increasing rates because of increased testing. In the large geographical part where I live it's pretty much an afterthought. Still don't know anyone who has contracted it, businesses are open, nobody (read: liberals) on our mountain social media sites even seem concerned anymore, unlike the wild panic of a couple months ago.
Just a tid-bit about reporting in Canada. At testing, health care providers are not allowed to ask if the person has attended a protest. If they volunteer that info, it is not to be recorded. So far all spikes have come from beaches, bars, restaurants and family gatherings. Hmmm?
I work for the State of Virginia Department of Health. I'm an Environmental Health Specialist. I work in a Health District in the Southwestern portion of the State. My area is rural and semi rural with two smallish cities and several medium large towns That means that under my State's COVID response plan I'm charged with information dissemination enforcement of Food, public service and public entertainment establisments and lodging establishment closures, re openings, patronage limitation, public signage, sanitation, etc.
We are seeing some push back on mask use, but mostly folks are complying. We get a lot of complaints but so far not overwhelming. We haven't had to do a lot of actual legal enforcement to the point of filing charges or ordering non-compliance closures.
We have a couple of large towns and cities in my area which have had bouts of Community spread but they were short-lived and self-limiting. We've re opened dine in restaurants and personal care facilities with strict sanitation and social distancing and mask use protocols. Our Farmer's Markets are open with precautions and most public offices and banks are open with the same precautions.
The general vibe is that the measures are effective and possibly overly cautious.
I hesitate to talk about my personal take on that last point since I'm very low on the Government Food Chain.
I don't see an end to this anytime soon but it doesn't FEEL like a Public Health Disaster. I has a bit of an economic disaster feel though.
Our infection rates and death rates remain on the low end compared to the more densely populated areas.
"What happens in each state will vary according to where the population centers are at".
Not true. Depends on your Governor. Our Libtard Governor (Newsom), several days ago, re-instituted Statewide restrictions, due to rising number of cases alone (death rate has been stable and/or falling ). So, no more dine-in restaurants, hair salons, etc., plus indoor mask restrictions.
By population, California has done very well in regard to mortality. Rural area numbers in general, are a joke! Yet, Newsom will let businesses fail, and continue to strangle the local economies through broad-blanket Statewide restrictions, to sustain his Political agenda.
But, protests are apparently OK ;^)

This is today’s report from Larimer County Colorado. Shows active positive cases, hospitalized, ICU use, etc. See link
The worse it looks the more they can close down. The more business that are closed/restricted worse the economy does. If econ number are bad less likely it is Trump is re-elected. If Trump is out the quicker the left can get us on a road to more socialism and they currently have the pumps primed. That is at least part of what is going on.
New Mexico has seen a rise in positive tests. Governor has put some restrictions back in place. Masks are mandatory even outside walking your dog.
The Governor has set up a nice little hotline you can use to turn people in who do not comply. If you’re a business owner that didn’t force a customer to put a mask on and a Nazi sympathizer produces a photo of the offense it’s a 5,000 dollar fine.
In Ohio, our governor is going on at 5:00 eastern time to presumably lock us back down again. Not needed, but most predict that is what he will do. No one I know knows anyone that has it.
2 cases in our ICU in Laramie, we have 5 beds total. City council voted no on a mask resolution last night. Restaurants and bars open for business but limited. Some folks are really taking precautions and some not so much. Our county attorney thinks she is the health czar for everyone though, trying to get things limited.
Your biggest risk coming to MT is driving. Twice as many deaths on the highways than from covid. Maybe we oughta shut down the interstate...I dunno.
Seeing a little up-tick in our rural area. But most cases are asymptomatic. Local hospital where my wife works are not testing asymptomatic patients anymore.
Worried they'll shut down the courthouses again. Last shutdown gave us a case backlog that is going to take a year to get over. A new shutdown will see cases set for trial in 2022. It's nuts.
My firm stayed open during the last shutdown as an essential business. But I'm not looking forward to another.
Everyone I've talked to, no one is in favor of another shutdown.
Masks are probably 50/50. State courts are not requiring masks locally and almost no one wears one. Municipal court requires it, and we've had a couple people get upset about it.
Shutting down attorneys that's a plus for Covid ;)-
Talked to my outfitter south of ABQ last week. He said, we are going elk hunting.
Not another Covid thread...SMH
Not that any of y’all plan on coming to Florida for deer season but after experiencing the 4th celebrations down here I can conclude, no one gives a $&@“
In Manitoba since the beginning we've had a sum total of 330 cases. 318 of them are listed as recovered, and we've had 7 deaths. We had 13 days in a row of no new cases and we only had 1 active case. Day 14 would have brought us to 0, so it seems they needed to find some more cases on day 14 conveniently. One of them is a "woman aged 10-18"....I'm sure she is a real person...
13,659,212 cases world wide, 7,973,858 recovered, 585,586 deaths.
world population 7,798,294,610. births since 1st of the year 75,493,751 as of 5:51 PM according to Worldmeter .info
looks like humans are keeping ahead of this one by quite a large margin.
I heard a report today that the worldwide birth rate is decreasing to the point where people who care are worried we will have a population crash. Read another report stating the looming huge shortage of nursing home beds in the next 10-15 years. A friend told me they just got on a one year nursing home waiting list (which accepts Medicaid) for her 96 year old grandma and are caring for her at home.
I don't want to sound callous about the effects of COVID...but maybe I am, just a little bit.
Lou...not sure I’m follow that report about the birth rate dropping due to covid. Everyone having babies in the last 3 months was pregnant way before covid. How can they say it’s affecting current births rates? Maybe 9 months from now they can say that.
I live in central part Mississippi. The state is going backwards rather than forward. State avg. about 1000 cases per day. There are 13 counties in serious condition - masks are required and governor may be shutting down bars again. Serious issues on Gulf coast counties and state line counties close to Memphis. Memphis is a wreck.
I know several folks who have /have had Covid (some minor cases & some really serious cases). I do not know any one who has died from COVID, but about 50% of deaths are in nursing homes. It has spread into the state and federal prisons in the state.
Also about 30 members of the MS Legislature have the cooties. The length of the 2021 Legislative Session has been session has been greatly impacted by the COVID virus.
It is not a joke here.
A friend of mine, in Georgia, went to an urgent care clinic for a UTI test for which she knew she had. Anyway, 3 months later, just this past Monday, she gets a call from the clinic saying she tested positive for Covid. Wrong, wrong, wrong. She never took a test and between then and now still has never been tested.
More people are dying from gun shooting in Chicago than the CCP Virus, but not much is being done or being reported. All this is a political take down of the POTUS and the control of the lemmings, just use common sense and live a life. Go hunting and the spread will be very limited, but watch out for rabies, snake bites, ticks and stepping in a hole.
It’s kind of weird, but dying of old age, heart attacks and strokes have gone by the weigh side...All deaths now are, or have to be Covid related...Things that make you go hmmm!
The birth rate is dropping worldwide due to demographic shifts. Has nothing to do with COVID.
State Dept of Corrections transferred a bunch of prisoners here. Covid cases went from a few dozen to 2000 (all but a the few dozen incarcerated) in a matter of weeks. They are supposedly coughing on each other. The state just released 8000 prisoners due to infection risk. Don't worry the police are standing by, er down. And it takes 10 days minimum to purchase a firearm. My 2 cents on Covid is it is serious. The numbers are constantly being 'adjusted', and the fatality rate keeps dropping, but it is at least a factor in the deaths of tens of thousands of people. Thank you China. On the plus side, observing the typical guidelines seems to keep just about everyone I know (including quite a few oldsters) free from the virus. DEFINITELY not in favor of further shutdowns, and the kids should go to school in the fall.
I work ER in Wichita, KS. Our covid numbers are at an all time high, but very few critical patients. Our level 1 Trauma center receives all covid patients from several counties and as of 2 days ago, we only had 25 patients. Like Trump said, the numbers are rising because everyone is getting tested. The chance of dying by this in KS is still like 0.01%. Older folks will suffer the worst.
here is a thought for once, or question for you all. How do you forsee us ever going back to NORMAL??
Do you believe the officials will ever actually say " nothing to worry about anymore, no need for mask, no need to distance from people in public, you can stand in a line again without 6 ft spaces" ???
I doubt it, I think they may silently drift away but they'll never actually make a statement. I fear the scared of everything crowd will become a big PIA later on wearing mask and judging those who don't.
Remember everything today is progressive, nothing EVER reverts all the way back. For example Nashville, Tn is looking to raise property taxes 34% for loss of revenue. I bet IF they ever cut them back they DO NOT go all the way back to where they were before the increase!
Its important people start to think for themselves, Big picture thinking not nearsighted thinking, if not we will be full on controlled with no way to take back our power as we will be stripped of our power.
JJS- I completely agree about the take down of the POTUS. Somehow we coordinated with 213 countries and 586,000 deaths later. Has to be the biggest set up ever...
I think the relentless march of point creep is a bigger concern in CO.
NC is still in phase 2 of reopening which means, well, heck I don't know what it means. Churches, restaurants, pools and retail stores are limited to 50% capacity. Masks are mandatory unless you have an exception. Gyms and bars are still closed but breweries and bars in restaurants are allowed to open. Officials are looking at ways to have modified in-person school and no one knows what that will look like. Our positive cases continue to rise and deaths are dropping but, here again, the reporting is so screwed up one can't rely on the numbers. I personally know of a few deaths that were not Covid related that were reported as Covid. I went to the grocery store this week and was surprised to see dwindling stocks of canned veggies. The stocking manager warned me in May that we could see stocks dry up but I was a bit shocked to see the bare shelves. This was in Wally World not a Mom & Pop grocery. Anyone else seeing this?
Our Governor has Covid... BOOM! :)
And he still hasn’t issued a mask mandate Embry. Thank God for Oklahoma.
Got it Lou. I wasn't picking up what you were putting down. Thanks for clarification.
21,500,000 people live here. Our positive rate is 1.4%. The death rate is 0.02% so far. Even though our average seems to be 9000+ a day, there’s 90,000 tests being done a day.
Obesity kills more people every year than COVID and we come out with a chicken sandwich using chickens for buns and a cheeseburger on a donut....and by the way here's an electric cart so you can get more food without having to walk.
Yep. 100% political. I will say brotsky in all fairness Democrats will likely come for your donuts just like they have salt and big gulps in NY.
Brotsky- Obesity hasn't killed anyone since March. I think we covid cured it! Same with cancer, old age, strokes, etc. Anyone that died in the last 3 months died from Covid..........
Swapbuck your math does not work. You said: "Our positive rate is 1.4%.... Even though our average seems to be 9000+ a day, there’s 90,000 tests being done a day.
9000 of 90,00 is 10% not 1.4% So I am not following you.
I think Swamp was referring to the overall population in Florida....not the testing rate. Thats how I took it anyways.
It's just a mask?
It's just two weeks. It's just non-essential businesses. It's just to keep from overwhelming the hospitals. It's just until cases go down more. It's just to keep others from being scared. It's just for a few more weeks. It's just communion or singing. You can still meet. It's just until we get a vaccine. It's just a few side effects. It's just a bracelet. It's just to let people know you're safe to be around. It's just for the coronavirus vaccine. It's just an app. It's just to let others know who you've been in contact with. It's just a few more months. It’s just a video. It’s just an email account. It's just for protecting others from hate speech. It's just a few people. It's just a credit card company. You can use cash. It's just a few places that don't take cash. It's just a little chip. It’s just for medical information & paying for things. It’s just so you can travel. It’s just so you can get your driver’s license. It’s just so you can vote. It's just a statue. It's just a building. It's just a song. It’s just a piece of paper. It's just a flag. It's just a piece of cloth.
It's not just a piece of cloth.
It's not just a mask.

You are right JOHNMC !! THEY are doing their best to JUST!! TAKE AMERICA away from US... I JUST hope that every AMERICAN stands up in November, and JUST say.. HELL NO!!!
Death by a thousand pricks.

It's just a mask? Worthwhile link to click.
That.... was awesome.... spot on and awesome. Thank you.
I couldn't tell you how many cases, etc. here on Maui..... never met anyone who even knew anyone who had it. Have met a couple that knew somebody that knew somebody that had it.....
Our shop is and has been open the whole time. Got nothing else better to do.... I don't wear a mask in it and don't require one. Folks come in and ask if they have to and my response is always that's your decision to make, not mine. Most take it off, say thank you. Some don't and that's fine, do what you have to do. A few wear it like it was some kind of team uniform. I wear it where required, I don't officially bitch about it to anyone, most you could bitch to don't make the rules anyway. Those folks are likely locked in their office and bathing in disinfectant 3 times a day anyway. There are business here that COULD be open that are essentially shut down, doors locked, phone orders only and they leave the orders in crates outside with the paperwork (one of em is a welding supply.... here I thought welders were tough.....) SMH... Walmarts and most other stuff wide open (masks required), some restaurants semi-open.... (how do you eat with a mask on?) But the economy here, everybody is whistling past the graveyard. There are still 20,000 rental cars parked in the weeds by the airport and hotel occupancy is under 5%. So few flights that going anywhere is a huge logistical issue. Losing millions and millions a day and.... who the hell knows when. Amazing how many funders there are though that doing really care about it and life goes on as normallll
Much here seems to depend on your level of germaphobia.... some had a bad case of it before all this, now they are off the charts. Seems at times those are the very folks in charge of everyone else's lives.... must be tough to live in that little world. Bless their lil hearts.....
Sorry y’all, I should have spaced that post out.
What I meant was out of the 21 plus million living here, only 1.4% so far have tested positive. 0.02% ended in death. That doesn’t include the millions of visitors that come here.
Small numbers IMO, the flu runs rampant here from October till April, thanks to the snow birds.
Heading up to the north woods of Wis. for our annual get the he!! out of the heat trip. We’re flying this year, prices were to cheap not to. Don’t worry, I’ll be self quarantining myself to the boat on the lake for 2 weeks!!
TD our son has been stationed at Schofield Barracks for 3 years in Hawaii and was planning on coming home to Wyoming but the DOD has pretty well shut travel down for the military. Here in Wyoming our governor stated that we have been socially distancing our selves for 130 years as there are 5.5 square miles for every resident in the state. We feel pretty fortunate where we live as far as the virus. It is here but not near the scale as it is in other states. Can’t imagine what some cities are dealing with in other parts of the states.
That joker video was rich! Wish I could give it a like or whatever it’s called. Scary true!!!
The county I live in has its first Covid fatality. ;) seams this is the popular sentiment among the young and old where I live.
The covid-19 pandemic will go away just after the election in November...
The government control and power grabs will be much harder to reverse and restoring liberty is in serious jeopardy.
