Cataract surgery questiom

I am now a candidate for cataract surgery in both eyes. I am 65 and currently wear contacts for distance. I can read fine with out my contacts but wear readers when I have them in. I am left eye dominant. My eye doctor surprised when he said do you want your eyes corrected for close up or distance. I want the best situation that will allow me to still bowhunt , blackpowder hunt and do my job which involves production printer repair. You folks that have had the surgery how were your eyes done to allow you do still hunt.My doctor said if I picked distance then he said my sight pins and reading a book would be blurry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
mine is for distance,no problims pins and targets, big huge improvement . need bifocals for reading
I'm with Brantman,
Bifocals a must for me too.
I have had my left eye done- selected distance. Right eye (dominant eye) not quite ready yet. I plan to have it for close up vision for reading, etc.
After my initial cataract surgery I developed an astigmatism in left eye. Wear glasses not to address the issue in left eye. Right lens is clear. Lower part of both lens are bifocal for close-up reading.
Had a pair of glasses built w/o bifocals to use hunting and to play golf. No issues.
Go with the multi-focal lens, cost more but it is worth it.
Had mine done at 47. I shoot traditional so it was no problem at all and quite amazing seeing with such clarity, after 38 years of wearing glasses. Still need readers for close up.
I had both eyes done, along with an astigmatism correction procedure. I’m now 20/15 in each eye, and anything past arm’s length (including my pins) is crystal clear. Up close I use 2.0 readers and I am good to go.
My perfect results would be what WYOBULLSHOOTER got. I already use readers. How does it take to recover? Bow season starts in a month so I am kind of leery about making any changes now. If you say its fast then I may go ahead and get it done.
best thing I ever did-Ive worn glasses/contacts since 9th grade.Dr said "you want good closeup for your work right?" (vet surgery etc) I said hell no I want good far off for hunting! I have 20/10 vision now at distance and wear dollar store glasses when I need closeup stuff.
I had both eyes done and lenses inserted. Worked great for me but I still use cheap drug store glasses for close up stuff. When I came home from the first procedure I asked my wife what had she done to my TV. She said he hadn't done anything. The colors were much better and everything was so clear.
Thanks for your help. I may get it done before season starts
The biggest PITA was the weeks long eye drop regimen you have to go through after the surgery. It’s something that can be done, but I’m glad mine was done well before the season.
There are a few manufactures out there making the multi-focal lenses. The one I was hoping to get was something like Crystalin(??). Your eye Doc may have a brand he works with so you can ask him. I'll get my other eye done next year sometime. Stay awake for it....it's a cool procedure.
I wore contact lenses for over 50 years. For the last 15 or so, I was using mono-vision where my left eye was corrected for reading and my right for distance. I had to stop wearing contacts for at least a month prior to cataract surgery so my eyes could normalize their shape.
I had both eyes done (slight disruption in the fact that covid shutdown delayed my second operation) and had lenses such that I have mono-vision again after surgery. Not everyone can have this solution, but when it works, it works great. I can read small type, tie a fly on a leader and still have great distance vision without having to resort to readers. I shoot traditional and have no problem shooting my bows.
My biggest problem is that I still have the tendency of thinking about taking out my contacts before bed. And, nice being able to get up in the night and have no need for glasses.
Distance, 2x for up close reading as stated above is where I am now which works fine. I have an appointment for reading glasses but don't know how they could be any better than my dollar pair. Don't wait too long because of Covid there may be scheduling delays as that happened in my case. My best to you....... Badbull
Got both done just before Covid hit, easy peasy.Still need glasses for reading.Couple weeks of no heavy lifting and drops for a month.
JL, "Stay awake for it....it's a cool procedure."
Unless you have a severe eye phobia like me. I freaked out on my right eye, and the doctor knocked me out for my left. Then a couple years later I had a torn retina on my right eye, followed by a detached retina in my left a couple years after that. Like being afraid of heights and getting thrown out of a plane with no shute. I never want to be awake during eye surgery.
^...take the pain!!
I'm a squinter so I have a hard time with someone playing with my eyes or doing drops. However.....I didn't want to miss anything and glad I stayed awake. During the procedure when the Doc asked for another lens...I suspected something happened....and it did. My lens sack tore and wouldn't support the multifocal lens I wanted. The Doc ended up putting in a govt issue lens. Hopefully the next one goes better.

I just had both eyes done (22 Jul and 5 Aug). I have worn glasses or contacts for over 40 years and couldn’t be happier. I opted for The Pan Optic lens which takes care of distance, near and intermediate sight. Have not used glasses since the first eye was done and can see beautifully. I had an astigmatism in the left eye so that eye has also been taken care of which is amazing g. Definitely worth the upgrade, especially for hunting. Would highly recommend you check it out with your doctor. Good luck.

Had both eyes done 5 years ago. Lens insert in place correcting far and Intermediate. Opted not to go for “progressive” inserts to correct everything because that stats say 20% of those who do have them removed because they can’t get used to them. Love mine but my wife makes me still wear glasses cause she doesn’t like my mug without them!
My wife and I have both had cataract surgery. I chose the distance in both eyes option and she took the one eye for reading option. While I still have to wear reading glasses, which I was use to before the surgery, I now have between 20/15 and 20/10 distance vision. She has trouble reading license plates while we are driving. But she doesn't need reading glasses. Your choice.
But she calls me "Eagle Eye".

I'm in the que for this procedure. How much more expensive are the multi-focal lenses?
Thanks,
best thing I ever had done. Do both for distance. I barely need reading glasses now just sometimes. One of the few surgery's that really work in my opinion
Hi, I just got assessed today at the VA. They pay for Muti-focus lenses so cost is not an issue. We're only doing the left eye at this time. I just need to decide between the distance lens or the Panoptic lens. The surgeon said the distance lens is the best choice for doing away with glasses. I have a couple of weeks to make a choice. She said some people see a halo around lights at night with the Panoptic. Roll the Dice I guess.
What jjs and JL said!! According to my doc, this product is new on the market the past 5 to 6 years. Multi focus lenses. I would make sure you have an experienced doc to it with this lens!! I Doc has to figure/calculate the best lens script for your individual eyes.
I had it done one year ago. Can see at a distance perfectly, and close up is 20/20 as well. Before surgery, I had needed correction for distance and for closeup too.
