Had a good friend bought some land in SC , in Jasper county . Think of hunting there this fall as a non-resident . How do you go about getting doe tags ? Any other info would be great .

Wife’s cousin lives and hunts down there. Think he can get like 6-7 tags a year. Few bucks and a few does. Nothing very big tho. Body wise at least.

You will be hunting in the Lowcountry so get used to the doghunters. Season comes in for everything at one time on Aug 15. Get a good hog setup cause there are plenty.

South Carolina requires an additional fee to hunt public land. This applies to residents and non-residents. It is $76 for non-residents to be able to hunt WMAs. An additional (expensive) fee to hunt public land? Ridiculous!

I have hunted South Carolina a bunch of times. Actually a pretty good value, I believe around 250 bucks will get you plenty of deer tags and the ability to hunt public and private. Low Country can be tough, I really don't care for baiting but some of the spots I hunted were so thick it would be tough to hunt without it. Dogs are used as well. Deer along the coast and down low will not be huge but I have seen and killed some bucks over 100"s. I am going back this fall but will be hunting up near the Georgia border in the hill country. Some really good deer up that way near Andersen, Occonee and other counties. Shawn

Here is roughly how things play out for a NR to SC big game hunting. Annual hunting license- 125.00 Big Game Permit- Required for deer & Turkey- 100.00 WMA permit- 76.00 1st Buck Tag- 50.00 2 buck tag(max 3) 20.00 each Turkey Tags- 100.00 Doe tags- 5.00 each- max of 4
Expensive state nowadays for a NR hunter.

Generally SC has been a quantity state from a deer standpoint - not a quality state. And the population has been dropping. I do think the quality is improving as we reduce our buck kill as the mindset of resident hunters evolves. Would love to see us go to a 2 buck limit. I would not oppose a 1 buck limit but don't think it is necessary.
