I have watched our reactions to the new attack on the rights of firearms owners. As a bow hunter why should you care? They are not coming after you yet. I empathize the yet .I hope we can push back hard.

From: Woods Walker
14-Mar-21
Couple of reasons. First, many of us bowhunters are also firearm owners. I'm a bowhunter and a firearm hunter. But it ain't about hunting.

But more importantly, it's not about if you use/have a firearm or not, it's about an INALEINABLE Constitutional birthright, AKA, FREEDOM. If the 2A is ignored/reduced/taken away, then when will they come for the others? And make no mistake, the right to free speech and voting is under attack as we speak.

From: Dale06
14-Mar-21
Seriously, we as bow hunters should sit back and not be concerned about threats to the 2A rights in this country. I’m not at a loss for words, but don’t want to get booted from this forum.

14-Mar-21
Pushing back hard comes in levels. With each level requiring a more severe resistance. The first levels are a constant part of everyday life now. Whether following generations has the rights we have, will solely depend on the men we are. Because previous generations truly failed in that department. That doesn’t mean we should though. But, human nature says we likely will.

The day will come that being an American exercising his second Amendment, will label you a radical. By legislative actions, we will be taxed and alienated to the point those unwilling to comply, will be picked off one by one. And, their neighbors will watch and support those actions by government.

That’s my guess.

Whether one owns gun(s) or not, it’s about supporting, upholding and or defending the constitution. For without that, we will not be free. Whether it’s the 1st, 2nd or 4th amendments. Or any of the other amendments. Those 3 seem to be constantly be under heavy attack lately. I don’t think many even know what their rights are. They don’t teach it in school obviously. I suggest breaking down and paying $1 for a pocket constitution from The Heritage Foundation for those who don’t know what the bill of rights is

The point is some are ok with more regulation on guns or use of guns if it doesn't really effect THEIR lifestyle. The list of freedoms that the left wants to control has many pages after things like guns and speech.

Hunting, of course, has almost nothing to do with our right to arms. If you were looking to find the weapon that fits what our founders were discussing, the AR is the best current fit. It (or close to it) is what people carry in battle and that's the type of arms they had in mind.

Also, remember that we say "2A" rights but the 2A just puts in writing a limitation on Government regarding an existing right. It doesn't grant our right. The right is inherent and exists without anything written by anyone.

From: Catscratch

As a bowhunter I don't care about 2A rights, as an American I very much care about 2A rights. Completely unrelated topics.

From: LINK

In this day an age very little is unrelated. Our rights and privileges are all under attack from the same group for many of the same reasons if nothing else.

To the OP, I take it you don't own a gun, and depend on others that do have guns to protect you and your family. Why would you depend on others to protect your family? Serious question. I conceal carry and open carry everywhere I go. I'd rather have a gun and not need it, then to need a gun and not have it. I will not depend on someone else to be there, with a gun, to protect myself or my family, unlike the OP will. This question bothered me. And I agree with Hondolane, WTF!!

14-Mar-21
Hello Folks : I confess I worded my question poorly . I own firearms and am deeply disturbed by the antics of congress. I wanted to point out the divide and conquer attitude that is being presented. To those who posed indignation please be assured that I feel trampled on . I wish I had done a better job pointing out that we all are negatively affected even if our choice is to hunt with a "primative firearm a bow or don't hunt at all. The second amendment is not abouut hunting . It is about protecting us from a government that forgets they work for us.

I only hunt with a bow except for birds and I own more guns than bows.

Jan 6 th was a wake up call to the politicians on this country, or at least it should have been. I guess the liberals just want to add fuel to the fire. I fear what might happen if they actually get away with banning guns, and forcing people to register them. I think libs are using the gun debate to distract away from other socialist programs they have in mind. Obviously they haven't figured out that gun ban talks create bad results at the polls, so 2022 will hopefully be a huge victory for the right, enough to get a veto proof majority and stop what Joe Bama is doing. Also, maybe a 25 th amendment debate should be had.

And none of that will happen unless we change how the mail in vote fraud is conducted. As long as there are unverified mail in ballots a Republican/conservative will NEVER win another major, significant race. This past November showed that reality.

My Polish grandfather and his brothers fought the Germans in WW1 with knives. The Germans had the guns. In WW2, my uncles, aunts, and cousins left in Poland were sent to concentration camps. Again, no guns for them, just the Germans had them. All my uncles in America fought in WW2, my father was a doctor in the Army, and my Polish mother nursed the wounded. I and two older brothers served, along with my younger sister and my daughter. The progressives can go to hell if they want our guns. I and all who raised their right hand took a lifetime oath to protect the citizens of this nation and the Constitution. The 2nd amendment was part of that oath. As far as I am concerned, to do otherwise is treason, and those who served know what the punishment for treason is.

NRA is a fear monger, and has probably done as much to hurt popular opinion about gun ownership as they've done to fight for responsible legislation. Background checks, limits on high capacity magazines, and limits on assault style rifles? I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

Hunting is still around because of the number of hunters. The vast majority being gun hunters. They pay for lobbyists to ensure hunting remains. Thousands of hunters in a state are votes to protect hunting. Recently in Ca they attempted to ban bear hunting. If only bow hunters responded to that we probably would not have bear hunting. Since over 20,000 people responded the bill was removed. There’s roughly 11,000,000 hunters in the US, 1/3 are bow hunters. If gun hunting goes away bow hunting will be close behind.

If you don't think you can lose your firearm rights you clearly mistaken. On Long Island it takes at least a year to get a pistol permit that allows you to go to and from the range. Forget about full carry, you will be denied. Trying to convince Democrats is useless on this issue.

The Constitution was written as a stand alone document, NOT to be interpreted, but to be followed, to protect We The People against tyranny. This, unfortunately has not been the case, and every time a legislator proposes a new law that would alter what ANY amendment protects, we are in jeopardy. We are on the precipice of civil war, and the current administration knows that over half of the population owns at least one firearm, so they are determined to chip away at the 2nd Amendment as much as they can under the guise of public safety. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Obesity kills 360,000 people a year, yet buffets are still open, Krispy Kreme donuts are sold fresh and hot, and people are FREE to eat as much or as little of whatever they want. We live in a society that has been systematically dumbed down for decades. When you have to include a warning on a car battery that says "Do not drink the fluid inside", you know that we are in trouble. Those who disagree, when the times comes, and you pull your head out of the sand, do not ask "How did this happen?" because you are part of it by not standing up for what the Founding Fathers knew would happen one day. Wake up sheeple, Lenin is knocking on your door!

We, the people, are under attack . Our government wants to take our rights away. They for forget about our responsibilities. Free people all have responsibilities. We need to take care of each other. I have had hungry young in for dinner. I let them "earn " dinner by doing some chores with me. Splitting firewood or moving it for a half an hour helps to restore pride. We all need to feel we are paying our way. To those who say we could never win a war with our government with our meager weaponry I respond ,and history will back me up, We as individuals would be soundly defeated but we would win when our neighbors understand that we were in the right. I hope it NEVER comes to that. I have firearms that are hunting tools. If I am forced to use them as weapons it would be a terrible thing . Please tell your Senators that this latest attack on us can not stand. I have.

Without the 2nd Amendment, all the others are just worthless words on paper.

25-Mar-21
Now more than ever is your voice needed to be heard. Contact your local legislators and let them know that the 2nd Amendment is NOT to be infringed upon. Give them the true data, as most of the data provided comes from anti-gun think tanks. 2/3 of ALL deaths from firearms are suicide. You are over 900 times more likely to die from a bad doctor, than a legal firearm. In countries such as England and Australia, where ALL firearms for law abiding citizens are banned, the violent crimes of murder, assault, rape, and armed robbery have risen 700%. Look at the stats for Chicago, a city with THE most strictest gun laws in the Nation. Murders from illicit activity has been skyrocketing since the end of 2019. Canada scrapped their ammunition/firearm tracking data, after spending millions of tax payers dollars, for many years because the TOTAL number of firearms related crimes resulted in...ZERO matches. Once again the good guys, follow the law, and bad guys don't. The current Administration occupying the Whitehouse, Congress, and the Senate will stop at nothing to wrest the firearms from every law abiding citizen in our great Republic. They will capitalize on any tragedy, and exaggerate emotions. Wake up sheeple, Lenin is knocking on your door!

Why should I care ? Because its our constitutional right to arm myself in defense of a foreign or DOMESTIC TYRANNICAL government that wishes to do us harm, not to mention the right to protect myself and family against criminals. In 1776 the Brits tried to disarm the colonists, the flint lock was the so called " assault" weapon of the day. It doesn't matter if I personally own a firearm or not, but those to wish to exercise their right to arm and protect themselves is just that, their right.

From: shade mt

The fact that we are even discussing it in this country speaks volumes about how far we have strayed from our original views on freedom. I don't own any of these so called "assault," weapons, probably never will. for the record...AR does not stand for assault rifle, nor are they the weapon used in most murders.

Fact is knife homicides probably outnumber gun homicide by 4 to 1.

And are we stupid enough to believe someone willing to commit murder really gives a hoot about gun laws?

The people that get effected by these laws are people that are law abiding.

And that is a violation of their freedom.

You want to take freedoms away, then start with these violent criminals, quit coddling them and hang em.

We have far to many freedom robbing, liberal minded, progressive, gender confused, people making choices for the rest of normal Americans. And frankly most of them know very little about firearms.....or freedom.

Having gained a foothold....it sure didn't take them long to go from freedom to freak show.
