Ugly Trucks
General Topic
A waste of a truck......besides a blinged out, pimped out mall truck......these squat trucks are ugly rides. Some states are starting to make them illegal. I seen a few in the Daytona area the last month or so. I hate to say it but they look like they went to the beach looking for hot chicks and picked up some beached whales instead.
Yeah, I prefer my Jeep much better. ;-)

Talk about a poor man's frame lift.....
Idaho is flooded with those goofy looking trucks. They come in from California and can’t understand why they can’t fit on unmaintained mountain roads. Not uncommon to see one on the side of the highway with a broken wheel or busted axle shaft.
Remember the Chevy luv truck? I had 2 but can't find any pics, they was ugly but cool.

If Ford's stock price continues to climb, I'll gladly buy one of their Lightings out of gratitude, even if it stays parked in my garage. ;-)

Every truck on the market is ugly to me right now, with them being 40% overpriced due to chip shortage. Horrible time for my 4Runner to die but ain't no way I'm a buyer at these prices. Wife & I will limp along with beater backup 2009 Ford Edge w/170k miles until prices return to normal. Don't care how long it takes. Not throwing money away.

We just bought a new 4Runner for my wife after her POS BMW's engine blew up at 86K miles. Yeah, we paid a premium for it, but I doubt prices are ever going to come down. She absolutely loves it, so it's worth it. Now, I have to get another 20K miles out of my trusty Tundra with 150K on it, before I buy another one.

08 with 260K. I drove it off the lot and I’ll drive it to whoever’s grave is needed first! I’ve even convinced my wife that her ‘’18 Bighorn is the nicer one!!!! Lol!

GG, at the time the " marketing ads" made them look cool and I bit, I had those waffle stommper tires and a four speed on the floor... back then I was happy with that! ;0)
Yall hurting my feelings. My daily driver beat around truck is a 91 chevy s10. Gets 25 mpg & just keeps going like the energizer bunny.
My #1 truck is a 96 7.3 f250 that should last the rest of my life. Just getting broke in @180 k
Timex: my first truck was 85 chevy S10 I loved that truck, drove it for 22 years I wish wouldn’t never sold it , but the new 2022 ZR2 is unbelievable as off-road truck
My 2002 F150 with 290,000 and my 1999 4Runner with 407,000 are still humming along.
The cost of trucks is getting out of control. I drive a 2017 Silverado 2500hd High Country diesel with 83k miles. Bought it with 12k miles in 2018 for 55k. Was recently offered 60. Kelly private sale value is 57. It's ridiculous.
Would luv e to have a Land Rover Defender, but can't get the in the US due to emissions...

Chevy Luv was sorta cool. My Dad's buddy had one and we bounced all over the back roads around Steamboat hunting elk in it. They were built by Isuzu. I have an '94 Isuzu Trooper that just won't break. Bought a low mileage '16 F150 a couple months ago and book is 6K over what I paid now?

My 2011 Tundra with 208k miles is ugly. Been dependable so far though. Stock, full size PUs I think Tundras are the ugliest.
Well....I don't have a pic of it but my 03 F150 (150K-something) has a couple of big rust holes in it....typical Michigan rust I think it's called. Owned it since 2004 and it's been all over the place. It still runs decent...just whistles a little flying down the highway.

You need to keep it for more than 20 thousand. I am headed for 300,000 with my Tacoma.

Matt, The law of supply & demand says used car prices most definitely will return to normal. Strictly a matter of time. This is an unprecedented freak aberration.
Bought a brand new four door F150 XLT 5 years ago for $39cdn or $27US. That’s looking like a wicked investment at this point lol. Only vehicle I ever bought new. Only downer is I’ve put 180,000km on it already
Once I get over 150k on a truck, I get the itch for that new car smell while the old one still has some trade in value. I got $25k for my last Tundra trade in and drove off the lot with my current one for an additional $25k. I never cared to drive the screws off of my daily drivers.
Now, my old ‘81 CJ7 is another story. It was my fathers from new, and I restored in 2011. You’d have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.

I can see me going to an electric truck some day. I just think Ford needs to improve on the 300 miles per charge.
Coyote 65 - Speaking on 300,000 miles, I had a Ford Ranger that 307,000+ miles on it before it the engine finally blew... Talk about an ugly truck, I think it was a 2007 bought used with low mileage, and was originally purple (Safire Blue) until a guy ran into my bed and then put a bright red bed I found at a junk yard on it... So it had a purple cab, with a red bed, I called it urban camouflage...8^) Eventually had a $279 mako black paint job to make it look prettier...8^) When it blew the back bumper was about rusted off and had it tie wrapped to to keep it on, and spots the black started flaking off and patches of red and purple came through... Truly an ugly truck but I luved it and had it so long almost cried when it died...
Skull...im a Ford guy at hart. iv had that s10 for 4 years gave 600 for it put around 1000 into it since then. the odometer was broke at 240k when I bought it i haven a clue how many miles are on it but the little v6 just keeps going. I have a 283 waiting to go in when the v6 gives up. But with gas prices where they are I'm not in any hurry to do the sswap. its been a great little truck
Dodge fan here after owning Fords, Chevys and one only ever Toyota. This 2016 Hemi was hard to part with but loving the mileage from my 2018 Ecodiiesel.

Just kidding. My neighbor just retired from Chrysler after 30 plus years as a regional sales manager. His vehicle was a new truck each year, I was privy to riding in 20 new ones. His 2022 was awesome!
Ecodiesel gets 28-30mpg highway and 18-20mpg pulling a flat deck trailer with Atv’s onboard.
The only truck on here that doesn't belong on an Ugly Truck thread is the Tundra.
And I'll give a pass to Mpauls' well preserved 7.3. Just looks like a real cowboy amongst all the ones that bought the hat at a rodeo booth.
My 2007 Tundra, 5.7 V8 I bought in 2011 with 80,000 miles for 15 grand. It now just broke 300,000 miles. Its ugly as it has some dents etc, but otherwise solid. I would not buy the new ones at all, with the turbo 6. They are all designed now for city dwellers.
Also still driving a 96 Jeep Cherokee, Quad Trac, V8 full time 4wd, this is a snow machine, 227,000 miles and strong. Picked it up at 200,000 miles on it for 1800.00 because it was painted camo and butt ugly,,,,, ha ha
As the chips get back, and fuel prices go up, the used truck market will recover in 2023. The fuel costs are going no where but up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I love MPauls truck. My dad has a farm truck that is sitting in the shed since he sold his cows. 2001 Dodge diesel. 120k miles. I keep threatening him that I'm going to steal it and put a lift on it and some big nasty tires and a new paint job. . . . Needs a new turbo though
Friend of mine restores old cars and his brother has a paint booth. He restored an old squarebody Chevy, lifted it, 35" tires, new paint, and put a Cummins diesel in it. . . .it is SWEET!
This is an ugly truck, '79 chevy flatbed (full time 4wd from factory). I drive a Tundra but this is my dead critter/firewood/water/tractor hauler. Has a 16k pound warn winch stuffed in the bumper. I bought the truck 12 years ago for $500 then found an old flatbed and put that on it along with a bumper, winch, and tires. Aint a piece on it that isnt rusted but mechanically sound....thus far.
Bake, the 1998 to 2006' 1/2 Cummins are a hot commodity here, even before the shortage. I drove a 1992 for eleven years. After a few years of herding that bucking pig around, every time I got in it I hoped it would to give me some relief by dyeing. Mean SOB stayed trustworthy right to the day I sold it. I'm now looking for a truck like your Dad's for pulling my big water boat. Most here have been beat near to death by loggers.
Bought this New in 2015 and now has 83,000.00 6.7 diesel and looks black when really clean but it’s Dark green metallic . It’s dirty as heck right now cause I haven’t washed it in 3 years now.

There isn't one on here :) For the record, I have my doubts about Toyota's acquiescence to the NA market. Won't be a buggy as the Dodge's, but probably won't stand up to Toyota's status of reliability either.
I don't know how ya'll have such low mileage vehicles. The truck I posted near the top of this thread was delivered to me on November 5, 2021, and I already have over 9000 miles on it. My last truck was a 2016 Dodge 2500, I had it for exactly 5 years and put 196,000 miles on it
I got an ugly one. Looks like a brick. It’s got a ramped up, bullet proofed 6.0 diesel in it. It ain’t stock. And, it doesn’t run like it either. This thing would pull a house if need be. And, do it in a hurry. In all it ugly glory.
All jokes aside, I nearly didn’t buy it due to the 6.0. But, a good friend, which happens to own Performance Diesel, talked me into buying it. Then he proceeded to convince me it was the right thing to do by building the strongest, fastest, and, baddest vehicle I’ve ever set in. It is a BEAST!!!!!!
A friend just traded his half ton 4X4 Chevy for a new model. I think his old one was a '16. He said he paid $42K for it and they gave him $38K on the trade. Of course, anyone buying now is paying sticker or above for a new vehicle. Had me thinking about seeing what my wife's '13 Highlander would be worth. We'd like a new 4 Runner but I'd really like to keep the Highlander a couple more years.
I like the Toyotas but nervous about their past rust issues. Like the old saying on Chevy's and Dodge's....on a quiet night you could hear a Toyota rust.;-)
None will ever replace this truck. 190,000 miles. 5.0 with a chip. 21-22 mph on the highway. About 18 around town. Newly painted after body work. I’ve owned a lot of trucks. This one I hope to drive for the next 30 years.
I loved my 2000 Ram. It had 300K+ miles on it and someone made an offer I couldn't refuse. I have to admit I love it's replacement also!
WV Mountaineer, I think that Powerstroke is BA! Not ugly at all! I will probably be running my 2011 Suburban for a few more years. Just turned 197,000 and it still runs like a champ, drives very nice. I will eventually probably down size to a Colorado/Canyon in the future.
JL, here's the back story on the "Toyota" rust.
The problem is the frames and only certain frames. Those are the frames that were produced for Toyota in the famed and proclaimed USA made Dana Corp facilities. Should have built their own.
And also how many of the Big Three would take your ten year old truck into their shop and give you a loaner while they replace that frame at completely their cost. With NO arguments and often at their request after an incidental inspection while there for other maintenance. My buddy took his 2009 Tacoma in for something and they told him his frame had to be replaced. It would take about a month to get and install the frame. He would have a free loaner until it was done. Or he could take a very generous cash option, which he did. Then he bought a 2011 Tundra for very little cash difference from another dealer.
I took my 2007 Tundra in for an inspection (two years ago) after all the fear. They ran the serial numbers and concluded that my frame was not one of the dreaded Dana's, but then said they'd do an inspection anyway. So they cleaned, inspected my frame then re-undercoated the whole frame to cover all the road rash. When I picked it up they handed me the keys and said "Thanks for buying Toyota".
PS: I don't actually think its a very good looking truck, but then I don't think much about what a vehicle looks like. Women, horns and antlers, yes!

I think Toyota's rusting problem is old news. It affected 2005-2010 models, and Toyota paid dearly (3 billion dollars) in a class action lawsuit for the defective frames that were made in Ohio. I haven't heard of any problems since then.
I can tell you, I've had 2 Tundras since 2008. I put 150K on my first, and have 150K on my current one. Neither truck was ever in the shop for anything but routine maintenance. I can't say that about the Ford trucks I've owned. I bought a new 2002 F250 with the touted 7.3 diesel. That POS started to nickel and dime me with service problems at 80K miles. The last straw was when the injectors went out at 100K. I couldn't get rid of that stinky, noisy, trouble prone truck fast enough.

Toyota’s rusty frame issues started in 1995 with the first gen Tacoma frames, 2005-2010 was the extended warranty on the rusted frames and then included other models like the Sequia.
1986 Toyota 4WD xtra-cab. First year with 2.4L EFI. 5-speed. 500K+ miles. Still with the original alternator. She was sharp and tight the day I drove her off the dealer lot. Now, more like a 36 year spouse. HA! ;-)
On a semi-serious note....any where they salt the roads (like Michigan)...it will rust regardless of brand. Even new trucks will rust if you drive them in the winter....it's the nature of living where they salt the roads. My 03 was undercoated numerous times by Zeibart. It didn't help.
Gg I'm surprised about your misfortune with the 7.3. I drive a big truck for a living there's several trucking companies in my area plus I worked in the agg industry for many years & among the farmers, truck drivers & diesel mechanics in my area the 7.3 is considered one of the best motors ever made. In the time iv had mine I've replaced the batteries the starter & brake pressure sensor (cruis control) iv had mine 5 years its a 96 f250 with 180k and usually if I'm driving it its pulling something.
‘03 with 5.4 triton. 323K+ miles. Can’t see why I can’t get 500K+ out of this ugly truck. :-)

Joey.....what bigger maintenance items have you done to your 2003? That's a nice looking ride.
Alternator swap. Ball joints. And regular stuff like pads, rotors, plugs, t-stat …… that’s it. Still have original starter and shocks(Rancho) on her. No major issues.
JL, in that particular picture, she just had a bath and wax. That was taken last Labor Day.
Your 5.4 hasn't needed cam phasors yet and the tranny hasn't been rebuilt in 323K miles??
Mine was parked alot and in storage over the winters the last 5-7 years. Hence the 150K-something miles. My engine is still doing alright and the tranny is holding strong. I just did the alternator in November. The TPS was replaced as well as the exhaust manifolds + bolts. New rear driveshaft u-joints and e-brake cable too. Other than the usual routine stuff....I think that is it in the 17 yrs I've had it.
Nope. None of those issues. Trans seems just as strong as when I bought it and I pull trailers and boats all the time. Had 22K on it then.
I don’t think ford started using cam phasers until ‘ 04 when they went to 3 valve system. I know ‘03 still had the short plugs. Then in ‘04 went to the long plugs that people had issues with to them breaking off in the heads when removing.
Dont have a pic, but nothing uglier than an old school dodge....run forever though if they have a cummins theyre indestructible.

Had a 72 international 3/4 ton pickup. Basically a shoe box with another box for cab. Ugly but very durable. Split rims , AM radio, no power steering. Took a foot ball field for a three point turn.
12 yards, the pic was taken from a flattering angle. lol. Man, I’ve been blessed to own a lot of good vehicles. Hopefully it gets ranked in that list when it will no longer roll.
While I spoke incorrectly about the powers of the truck earlier, as it’s not the fastest vehicle I ever set in, it is the strongest puller I’ve ever driven. Much less owned. But, it won’t hold a candle to that black Ford in acceleration and over all quickness and speed.
That black Ford in my second pic is really something else. I like the grey truck a lot. But, that black truck was bought as it sets. I’ve done nothing for 145,000 miles except one new battery, brakes, rotors, and scheduled fluid changes. It’s been a good one. Plus, the previous owner knew how to get every inch of power out of a 5.0. It out run my sons raptor so easily I asked him if he even tried. True story.
I don’t know everything he did. I kinda didn’t care after test driving it. I was convinced I was buying it after pressing the gas peddle the first time.
It’s funny, I’ve never looked at a vehicle as anything but a tool. They worked and I really thought nothing about modifying one for better performance. But, both of those trucks are modified to the tilt. Kinda weird i ended up buying one that way and was forced to do the other because Ford motor company never did get the 6.0 figured out. But, I have cone to the conclusion both are far more fun to drive modified then a stock equal.
Don't have a picture but I really like my 2017 F150 King Ranch in Racing Red with dual turbos and Eco boost.

This Toyota isn’t ugly or rusty. FJ40’s are not fuel efficient, not comfortable and noisy as heck but man they look cool!
275,000 mile daily driver Suburban. It’s a real truck.
My beast, love this truck, just waiting on some 37/12.5r20s to arrive, before this truck I had a bulletproofed 2006 f350 6.0, it was also tuned and deleted, great truck once bulletproofed, the new truck is stock and would kill my 6.0, crazy power

I just seen on Newsmax that GM is going to come out with an electric Silverado to keep up with the e-F150. I'm not sure if these electric vehicles are going to sell or better yet function as well as a gas/diesel truck. They could be the newest ugly trucks before they even get to market.
The electric Fords have a waiting list a mile long - Ford has stopped taking 'reservations' to buy one. There will be yet another 5 million suburbians who never take their 4x4's off the pavement...
Ford is starting up the reservations. I'll take the wait and see approach on any all electric vehicle meeting consumer requirements. If there is no charging station on a road trip...they aren't going far.

My hack around huntin fishin wood haulin truck is a 98 Silverado, 296,000 right now. Seldom makes it to town but will ride it for a long time more. The last year you could get a 350 in a half ton.

Got a Tahoe with 396k, and a Suburban with 245k, for hunting. Just picked up my new "road warrior" on Monday. Its kinda ugly...don't like the wheels, but that's how it came and I had to take off Tuesday morning. Has the 3L Duramax and already put 2k miles on it. It also has like 15 cameras and a friggin stereo in the tailgate? Hope it lives up to the hype, its gonna see a lot of asphalt.
Well, here's my ugly 2021 3500 HD diesel. So far I really like it.
Here's my uglier '91 GMC 2500 with a 454 that I just bought to save my new truck from winter salt and slop and keep some miles off of it.
And then there's my '87 that I've had since '88. Doing some restoration work on it right now and working on getting it back on the road.
Mike....I like both of your trucks and you're thinking. The black one with the rust holes is like mine in northern MI. It's the winter snow beast. The 1987 is cool too. Is it a manual tranny?
If I had a place to keep one, I'd get an older F150 with a V8 and a manual tranny. Had one with a M400 and 4-speed back in the 90's and it was a fun one. It was a 1980, duals, no tail gate, a little rust, pulled to the left, loose/worn body lift, didn't need a key to start it.....but it was fun to drive. I bought it for $1000 in Florida between job transfers and drove it up to Michigan. Kept it for 4 years and sold it for $1500.
2014 with a new turbo. Runs like it’s supposed to now.

JL, the '87 has the 4 speed automatic. It's the first nice truck I ever bought and haven't been able to part with it. I got the '91 really cheap but had to fix a lot of little things on it and replace the tires. Regardless, I think I stole it and it's saving a lot of miles on the new one and keeping it out of the salt.

Did a really dumb brain fart to my old 97 the other day. Had moved it for snow blowing yard. Went to move it again and it was 12 below zero and shifter was stuck in Park. I know better but yanked on it....... NOT GOOD.
Broke the linkage in column all to hell. Stuck in Park and 4 wheel and out in the cold. Called a tow truck and he dragged it onto his truck bed and hauled it in.
My stupid move is gonna cost me over $900. Dang. Would have fixed it myself if it had been in my garage/shop.
And that’s why I’m in Florida.

^...They bling them out with chrome wheels and wide tires, light the frame up with LED lights and only go out to eat or to the mall in them......hence, mall trucks.

Yeah beemann, that's a nice Bronco... Buddy of mine had one from that era that was red and white... This would have been in the late 70's and it had a few miles on it at that time, and was transported many a times setting up deer drives in that Bronco, luved it...
