>>>>>------------------>
good luck on youre return hunt
Good luck Pat! It will be fun to follow along. Have a great hunt. Steve
Anybody have a prediction? I say Thurs, AM hunt Pat is done.
Git on him Pat.
My folks are here from Massachusetts for the holidays, otherwise I'd be up there chasing a Kansas king with Lonny. :^)
Would be great if he killed the same buck he hit in the fall.
Looking forward to the reports Pat!!!
Can you say bitter COLD....that wind...oh, I am going to have bad dreams for you. Good luck and get a body suit before you leave. :)
Anyone want to place any bets that Pat almost get's killed or has some sort of weird or dangerous occurance during his adventure?
8*)
Pat get killed??? I thinks the guy behind the Delta counter almost got killed by Pat!
I hate Delta. Can't tell you how many problems I had on my return from Africa. Once the lady behind the counter figured out I was a flying with archery equipment, she went out of her way to make my life miserable. Delta just doesn't care and acts as though we are an interruption to their day as opposed to the reason they have jobs. I used their customer service forum to complain about the 10 legitimate concerns I had with the organization. They Emailed me back with a brow beating message and a pathetic apology at the end. Tisk, tisk...Had to vent after reading about Pat's misery. I feel for you, brother. Good luck.
I've never flown into or out of Wichita, but have never had problems with Delta on my trips to Atlanta, or Orlando via Stl and KCI. Hopefully Pat won't find what we are seeing on the opposite end of the state where it was 50F today with no snow or ice. We have been seeing bucks that have shed already. We are seeing the late rut though.
Delta lost my luggage on my flight to Reno back in November.
BTW
Did you get Kirtsy's autograph? 8*)
Hey Pat, at least the flight had a smooth take off and landing with no suddens stop in between!! As we say in the business (wastewater that is) - feces occurs... While inconvenienced, you're still gonna get a brute!
>>>>>---------------------->
I hate Delta for exactly that reason. LOL LMAO at the Kirstie remark. I said the same thing when she sauntered out on stage in her teenie weenies. She may look thin to her compared to before but she;s still a busload of girl.
I am still trying to figure out what Kirsty Allie was doing in Wichita???????????
I have been held over in ATL a few times due to Delta. I will never fly with them again. Good luck on the rest of the trip Pat.
Hay Pat I know exactly how you feel. I was supposed to leave Denver on Thursday to fly to Michigan for X-Mas. Our flight got canceled and all Interstates leading that way were closed till 4:30pm on thursday. I was able to rebook our flights out of Omaha. So we left Denver at 700pm on Thursday drove half way that night, then the rest of the way on Friday to catch a 500pm flight. Well we made it but to only have the flight get canceled after a two hour delay. They did re book us from Omaha, to Memphis, then Memphis to Cincinati, then Cincinati to Detroit on Saterday. I didnt want to take the chance of getting stranded somewhere else, so we jumped back in the truck and drove the 7 hours back. Great X-Mas present! Good Luck, and Kill a big one.
Pat,
I would like to see what that camo looks like in the tree. Is there anyway you can take a picture of it or set up your camera from the ground to video you in the tree. I am betting most will be amazed at what that will look like in the tree this time of year.
ckc
Pat, or anyone else who has actually used them. How do the military cold weather boots work? I was told that they are great for sitting but one wouldn't want to walk in them for very long. I live in Michigan and I am interested in them for a late season boot.
Kirsty Allie, I thought she went and did that cryogenics to be thawed out when there was a good weight loss pill.
Kirsty Allie is from Wichita.
Kirsty Allie's not fat, she's big boned.....
Her bones grew alot in the last couple of years.
Id like to see the pic of your setup in the tree too I think thats a great idea. It would help some of us treestand rookies out too im sure.
So where's the picture of Kristy? :-)
She's not fat she's voluptuous
Kirsty is out there bow hunting....She's mostly there to drag out the big bucks.
She's from Wichita originally...must still have family there. She went to KU, like me....but eon's before me!
Whack a big un, Pat! I got a good buck in Kansas during gun season...unfortunately, could not get back home for bow season this year.
Chris
KS native.I return my set of Blowdown becuae it seemsed I was getting busted,by southern deer anyway.Hope Pat has better results.
"Kirsty Allie's not fat, she's big boned....."
I recommend "Osteosuction" then.
She is a big pretty girl, gotta have some big pretties roaming the earth I think.
Does debate free mean I can't make a comment like this: Pat: It is always a guess to determine when to be complacent and when to be asertive and you seemed to have picked the right times to do both on your trip. For a debate free post you do appear to be a bit harsh on the entire Delta group which has, I'm sure very dedicated people and those that don't give a darn. I wonder if you intended to judge the entire organization by your one experience.
Several years ago Kirstie bought her then-husband a nice shotgun from a buddy's shop in Augusta...can't be all bad.
It's getting late.....why no report yet for today?????????????????????????
Yeah...Kristy is fat. No debating it.hehehehehe
I think that 8pt would have been in trouble...
whats the temp there pat?
my bad....i see now the temp was 24. strange, colder in kansas today than it was in northern minnesota
Ya, she's big boned, like an elephant is big boned. :)
Pat better have some warm undies, looks like he's about to get snowed on...another big storm heading his way...I would think the deer should be up and moving pretty good before it hits(weekend).....Jeff
Still no report from yesterday afternoon.....I have a feeling there is a story coming.............
Somethings going on HerdManager for sure!
...or Pat is dangling at the end of his safety rope and in the center of an icicle!
Either: A late evening shot with recovery this morning,
OR,
That cold weather gear didn't work so well and he froze to death.
....or Kristie is warmer than that dang KOM gear!
It's Kirstie, Not Kristie you idiots!!!!!
It's not cold in Kansas yet...goose hunted this morning in a sweater and light jacket.
Pat may be having problems with on-line services. It's a techno-challenged part of the world sometimes.
Doesn't matter whether it's Kirstie or Kristie, those donuts are scared.
Great buck Pat, congrats. Enjoy the New Year, at HOME!
Congrads!!!
Have you ever thought about not hunting the rut and just hunting there in December?
Well, well, well. I was right about the deer moving as the storm front is moving in. Congrats on a very nice deer... we were wondering what was happening. Way to go....Jeff
I here his Doe tag is for Kirstie....Thats still one big Doe....Jeff
Speaking of classic hunting show lines, Pat's response should be one of them. "Am I a happy camper or what?"
Fantastic footage, and a 10x shot. Congrats Pat!
Congrats Pat. You made the right choice. Thats a super buck. Cant beat that character, awesome. Good shot too.
Way to go Pat!!! Great footage and awesome buck!!!
Smokin' shot. Great footage.
Congratulations on a dandy buck and footage Pat!
So much for the blood trailing competition on this one though. :~)
Perhaps Delta knew what they were doing after all.
Congrats. Just a beautiful deer that you put a perfect shot on. You gotta love it when you do it right on such a gorgeous animal. Congrats again.
Ha! I knew he shot something! Congratulations on a dandy buck Pat!
Good job Pat! That front is coming our way in a couple hours. Nice!
Matt & Cheryl
Awesome Job Pat! That buck will go bout 120" gross. Maybe more with junk you are talking about. Good Job.
120 you gotta be kidding. Pats not gonna shoot a 120 out there.
Would you take a star from someone for calling someone fat on the forum? Just curious as you called someone fat on the live hunt.....
Distressed Archer, how about if you call someone 'tall' or 'short' or long haired, or skin head. Those would be called "descriptive terms". Unless you are of the Political Correct crowd,... then I don't want to talk to you!
Just curious where all that corn came from in the corner of an alfalfa field, and why is in a straight line like that...
Great buck Pat! Love that charcter too. I knew you wouldn't let us down.
"Just curious where all that corn came from in the corner of an alfalfa field, and why is in a straight line like that..."
Just fell that way, but you can do that in Kansas!
I agree that 120 is a pretty low estimate on the gross score for that buck, but I would be surprised if he goes much more than 140. None of the tines are very long. Spread okay. Mass okay. Great deer and great character, but score-wise, probably not great.
Nice self-video Pat and good shot!
SWEEEEEET deer! Reading the update I was saying 'shoot that deer' as soon as i saw the pic. Sorry to get so amped, it's been a lean fall.
Great deer, great shot, great video......
Pat, Nice deer, congratulations. I love Kansas!!!! Jeff.
Nice shot Pat, hope you have better luck on your return flight.
Way to go How did you like that new camera
Congratulations Pat, glad you are going to be around for New Years. Now we can go turkey hunting.=)
Nice deer Pat! I'd be interested in knowing the score.
Larv
B E A U T I F U L B U C K ! ! !
Great Video Pat. Great Buck . Congrats.
very nice buck, super video. congrats
Congrats on a great buck and a Happy New Year to you and the family.
Sounds like deer hunting in Kansas is a slam dunk getting here is the problem. Need to move here. We have computers here too you know. Congratulation, nice buck for sure.
COngratulations Pat. Great buck, nice hunt...... Kick back and enjoy the New Year happenings with the family.... All the best from my family to yours!
>>>>>---------------->
Pat GREAT HUNT, hope you get home early to your friends and family
What release are you using?? it looked like you hooked up directly to the bow sting. I like that set-up
Congrats Pat....guess 06' goes down as a super year for you.
I'm sorry I don't share the majority opinion, but having a couple of buckets of corn spilled out in front of your blind, IMHO, is baiting.
Who argued that it wasn't baiting? Are you suggesting (on a debate free thread) that it's not hunting because it was over corn in December. With exactly which majority opinion to you disagree? It wasn't a good buck? Congratulations? Pray tell.
I was wondering about that light colored stuff on the ground too. Could not tell if it was corn or soybeans. Does Kansas allow baiting? It could have been accidental agricultural spill.
Here we go.. Do you actually think Pat would be doing it, if it werent legal? This has been discussed before, go back and read the old Ks live hunt threads. Its legal, those that have a problem with i, need to get over yourselves.
Does the bait come with the 5k you pay for the hunt?
liv2hunt Unless I missed something,
that was a non guided hunt. stands were hung but other than that Pat was on his own.
Nice Deer! I'm jealous, Congrats.
Non guided hunt? Stands were hung, suggestions on which stand to hunt and bait was placed... that's not non guided in my opinion.
BC
Opps! Sorry this is DEBATE FREE... Nice Deer Pat!
BC
Great deer, congrats. I used the video to show my son what happens when the arrow is placed well vs. the long overnight harvest that my youngest son experienced with his first kill two weeks ago. He is all excited again. Thanks.
it says he picked the stands sites on his own.
Boy you guys are Jealous ...I could careless. I do nto know Pat at all ...but Jeezz give the guy some credit
================================================= "Like last year I am on my own for this hunt. That means I am choosing my own stands and playing the wind"
Great buck Pat. I don't know how you manage to video and hunt!! I have a hard time doing just one of those at a time. To be 15' in a naked winter tree and get the shot on video is amazing.
Noticed the quiver bracket on your bow...Alpine soft lock?
hd
Nice buck Pat!! That place must be awesome to hunt!! Checked out there website and it says $3000 for a basic hunt with a $1000 kill fee.. Just wondering what a "basic" hunt includes???
Positive #1 - Nice Buck!! Positive #2-Nice shot!! Constructive #1 - Skip the bait next time.
nice deer Pat. What a year you had. What is on the docket for 07?
Pat, I'm glad to see you finally stop skirting around the "corn" issue on this hunt each year. I respect you more for finally being up front about it this year. It's legal to hunt with bait in Kansas and nothing to be ashamed of. Congrats on the nice buck.
Joshua
wow a lot of guys are harsh on this site.yes its legal to bait out there . great shot on video not the easiest thing to do by youreself in winter months .
Great job Pat, and awesome video footage for being alone. Hope you had a safe flight home. Have a nice new year to you and yours and everyone else here too.
Nice buck, nice video and an absolutely excellent shot. Deer die very quickly when hit correctly with a sharp broadhead. I love to see them kick their hind legs up like that when I shoot.
Some say when they kick like that, and I agree as I have seen it on deer I've shot, that the heart is hit. Was that the case here Pat?
According to everyone around here, big bucks don't come to corn during the day. Imagine that. Way to go Pat. Corn baiting is an awesome tactic. My favorite way to hunt. It puts the deer where I want them.
"CONGRATS" on a very nice buck pat,no matter what he scores thats a shooter in the late season after hes been hunted and educated all season by others. To take him AND get it all on tape is outstanding!
Good job, Pat! I'd shoot one like that in a heartbeat!
Larv
The "kick" will also happen with non heart hits.
Pat, Nice buck and excellent footage of the buck and kill shot. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the video. I would hope it is just the pixels you used to save download time on the website. I am leaning toward getting that Panasonic at some point.
Nice buck, Pat.
Just out of curiosity, does your outfitter (Kent?) ever ask you to shoot a doe too or do you ever feel inclined to also take a doe to manage the herd?
Beautiful deer for sure...nice footage. Wanted to see an interactive blood trail. Guess that ain't gonna happen!
Chris
Chris, I can't answer for Pat, but I live and hunt here in Kansas and I can tell you that management through doe harvest is not an option where I hunt. I hunt several counties and I can tell you that you would be extremely shocked at how low our deer numbers are across the state. Just look at harvest numbers state by state and the estimated herd size in comparison to the rest of the country. Doe harvest is not a good thing for management right now and I don't care what the experts say on tv. Management is still a great tool in this state, it is just that a couple of years ago we had the legislature setting our doe tag allotments and they went extremely overboard. It has been a downward spiral now for the past couple of seasons. They are finally closing the window on our late season antlerless season but I wish they would do away with it for at least one year.
Dang Pat, What a year. Hope 2007 will be as good or better. Congratulations on a great year! Mike
If Pat had bought a lottery ticket the day he killed his Caribou I think he would have won. Hope he bought one on this hunt, got a supper deer befor the storm hit is area. What a lucky (good hunter) guy this year. Jack Pot both times. Couldn"t happen to a nicer guy.
Hey, Kansas is a very diverse state in terms of deer populations. In some areas there is a great need to get more deer killed. A buddy hunts about an hour north of where Pat killed his buck and regularly sees 40-50 does per evening on one field.
During gun season in central Kansas my son passed on about 70 does, fawns and young bucks before he had a shot at a mature buck...and that was all in one day.
Not far from there a buddy counted a tad over 100 in one night.
No doubt about pockets of over population in KS.The rut brings a slightly skewed perspective on sex ratios as well.
True, Steve. Even in great areas we sometimes see very few does during the rut. I've always thought they're hiding. Meanwhile, every buck out and about is on the prowl.
Also, we're getting pockets of very high populations because of no or little hunting pressure on some huge tracts of land. Also, more and more avid hunters are buing and managing lands for more deer -- food plots, creating better bedding areas, feeders. That sucks deer off "normal" areas.
I have one buddy who owns a 3,000 acre ranch with almost 70 acres of foodplots. It's in the blackjack country where deer #s are always very high.
In five years he's taken 3 bucks and about 7 does.
(Still love to show it to you, Stevie!)
"unlike IL and certainly back east where the ratio is out of hand."
Pat, just curious why you think IL has a doe to buck ratio problem? Have you hunted IL? When was the last time?
I've hunted 6 counties in IL and have not seen a doe problem...I've scouted and traveled a good majority of the rest and don't see an issue. I realize just like any state their are "pockets" of high doe populations. And that can change from season to season.
I don't think IL has a doe issue.
Pat, You should put the full 7 minute video up on utube or soemthing...I'm sure lots of people would love to watch it.
It's awesome footage!
Wish I could afford a hunt like this. Do they have "winter" rates out there?
"I don't think IL has a doe issue."
I haven't hunted IL in 10 years but when I used to hunt Grundy County, near Morris, I would regularly see 200 does per day. Of course I was hunting in an area where no firearms were allowed. Killing deer was like shooting fish in a barrel there were so many. The woods was stripped of anything eatable for several feet up. I donated quite a few does to a group that used to hold an annual wild game dinner in Morris to raise money for children. I realize the whole state couldn't have this problem but it was awesome hunting if you liked to kill deer.
Pat, fair enough. I don't see an issue however.
"It still took 1.4 hours to upload the crappy low-res clip"
Wow, that explains it then! Patient is the hunter!
Pat: What does "DELTA" stand for?
Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport
Pat, you dog! Congrats, great shot, very nice deer! Need someone to tag along and help drag those deer out in 2007? Let me know, never hunted Kansas..... I did get a 148"NT in Ill this year and another smaller NT in Ohio, but no meat deer, ha! Already out of meat. Seriously, though, let me know, give me a call sometime to chat about his outfitter.
Boney
My apologies if the previous comes off as condesending, NO offense intended just an opinion. CONGRATS!
I have shot quite a few does in late winter over corn. It is a great managment tool for areas where you need to take out some does. It is interesting how the dominance or peckiing order of deer (both does and bucks) comes out when feed is a commodity. This was apparent when this buck chased the subordinate deer out into the alfalfa and kept returning back to the corn wallow. It is amazing how much they can pack down a 15'x15ft area just competing over a half a bucket of corn that had just been thrown out!
Great shot! Buck has great character, Persistance pays!
Like the old saying "It ain't over until Kirstie Alley Sings"!
