Dan, it's well deserved!! Congrats!!!! Bugle big for bigger bulls!!!! I started a thread with that very title several years ago! Bigdan was about the only one that agreed with me on the subject as a whole! Dan, you're certainly one to look up too!! May you have many more memorable hunts!!!

Congrats Dan!

I listen to people who have been there/done that. Danny Moore epitomizes this. I admire his no BS comments in regards to calling. He won't write a book when he comments. He just tells it as he sees it. His success backs him up.

I am always looking for your commentary Dan.

Take care.

I had an inkling of how successful BigDan was with Elk. But, it is awesome how consistent he has been. Also, not only is he a great Elk Hunter, he is a great bowhunter in general who has tagged many great animals. I will be purchasing MR James' book and can't wait to read it.

A guy that does it all with out a guide I would say he is number one in my book and he is a shop owner. Most shop owners can not even find the time to hunt my hat is off to you DAN MOORE.

20-Apr-08
Dan, that's an incredible story. You live a life that most archers dream of, myself included of course. I would love some bugling technique tips from you. Many Oregon hunters that I have talked to have said "don't waste your time bugling, you'll run the elk off and call in other hunters". Sounds like that hasn't been a problem with you. I would be thrilled to harvest any of the bulls you have hanging on your wall:)

Congratulations Dan for living your dream!

20-Apr-08
We are privleged and honored to have him on our Bowsite Threads lendgn experience and advice My goal is 10 elk and 10 Kudu on the books, and Kudu can be tough, but not as tough as elk on Public lands. I have 430 animals with bow , and 44 in SCI or P and Y, but Elk have to be one of the top 5 to me, along with Tahr, red stag, and Cape buff . Elk are the reason I am moving to Norwood, by Lone Cone MTN and the Wildernes areas and Gurley lake. Plus Norwood is close to 4-5 other states for tags

he first time I heard of DAn was on an elk thread some years back. Some Guys were kind of giving me a hard time about some things I was telling them about elk hunting and Danny cam into the conversation and said I don't know Sixby buit I will tell you one thing , He is an elk hunter. When I found out how many elk Danny had killed , and most on public land I felt like a teen ager elk hunter and I have killed over 30. It was the best complement I have had concerning hunting because I respect the man it came from. We don't agree about everything. He shoots a compound and I shoot a longbow or a recurve but I'll tell you one thing . Danny Moore is the best elk hunter in the world and his record backs it up. He ain't too bad a guy either LOL.

I met Bigdan in Montana years ago (25 or better) when I went over to see who was bugling better than most elk at a sports show held in Kalispell. Great guy and though I've only met him once he made a lasting impression, reading and exchanging a few pm's seems like I know him as neighbor and friend, oh and Wild1 when Dan sits on those Elk, what makes you think there dead?...4finger

Very nice. I'm guessing Dan gets it done because he has the skills and the mental presence to put life before the rat race. Very few of us would have the 'nads to shut down our livelihood and/or adjust our lifestyles to take so much time to do what matters. Kudos Dan.

Personally I've always liked what Dan brings in Bow shop. He has always answered any questions I've had to say. I've listen to when Dan helped me with my bowhunting, there aren't any other bow shops I go to except Dan's shop. Congrats Dan.

Thanks guys no one ever told me its bad to set on your elk after you kill them. I sure wouldn't do it if they were alive. I Just read in the last P&Y news letter that it was a big no no. I will try to make it better from now on.

Dan has set my Dad and I up with bows for years. Every summer, Dad and I would head down to his Evergreen shop and make fools of ourselves (mostly the old man- I seemed to have it together a little better). Dan was always a good teacher and didn't poke too much fun at us, and he always had Dad on the target by the time we left the shop, which was quite a feat. I shot his arrows for years, before building and cresting my own. When I was a kid, I'd go into that old shop and stare at the countless kill/trophy photos on the walls, not to mention all of the heads he had lining the shooting lanes. He also had one of the only hunting video selections in the area before these videos became popular. And then he built the range west of Kalispell, and we have enjoyed a few rounds there, waiting for the whitetails does to get out of the way so we could shoot at goat, lion, and bear targets. Dan is really a guy who made a career doing what he loves. I guess I'd like to thank him for sharing that with Dad and I over the years. We still chase elk every September in Montana.

Thanks Deacon for the prayers you offered up on bowsite for Danny. Can't remember how many years ago I first meet Dan but it was at a seminar and he impressed me then and also I have talked to him on the phone a few times asking for advise on hunting certain areas I know he has hunted and he without out reservation either on the phone or E-mails helped me out. Last year another great guy on bowsite was in need of info for a elk hunt down along the Idaho, Montana border and I told him to get ahold of Dan and like always Dan was a barrel of info for Bob in Minnesota. Dan's mom at the Big Sky archery shop in Hayden was always great to visit with also.

Congrats Bigdan! Well deserved recogognition. Great story about a great hunter!

His straight forward advice has always been highly valued and much appreciated. "Can't bugle elk" in this area or that was what I was told. He showed me that yes you can, just have to work at it and study it awhile. "Can't just run around tootin on a flute everywhere!" Most fun I've ever had with both feet on the ground!

Shucks decoy, he even knows where the best skinny dippin holes are!

Take care Danny.

It's not about being "politically correct" It's about "respect." Hunting is more than just killing, it's about respcting God's creatures and having a little class. Does the photo of jordanatwork represent hunting and hunters the way you would like to be represented.....? Or is it classless and disrepectful.....?

I'll apologize if I started a debate, my bad. But I don't apologize for pointing out what I think is simply wrong. Are we allowed to ask questions....? Like, for instance, if I have an opinion that differs, why is it considered "PC"....? Or, would you show that photo to your children....? (assuming you have children). What about it exactly is "inspirational"....? Again, apologies if I started a debate - I enjoyed the story about Dan and just asked a valid question - the photo of jordanatwork speaks for itself, I just felt compelled to interrupt.

Blaise....sorry if I offended. I understand you point of view. I don't condemn it. As far as putting on a public face for hunters....I agree. My photo is idiotic....I have a weakness for playing the idiot, it seems, but it was all in good humor. It was in poor taste even if it represents a funny and fond memory for me and some close friends. Unfortunately being idiotic has the potential to be offesive and that is and was not my intent. For that I am sorry.

I asked Pat to remove it. Thank you Pat.

Dan, thanks for all the wisdom you've shared on this site over the years. We all knew you were a stud even though you didn't promote yourself or trademark something silly like "The Greatest Elk Hunter In The World". But we knew it.

Best of luck with the surgery. One of my friends had the quad bypass when he was in his mid 60's. As far as recovery, well, his girlfriend was treating him to "conjugal visits" in the hospital before he was released. Now he's tougher than ever. Just has to be more careful about his diet and keep exercising - both good things at all ages.

Thanks for Big Sky Archery. I got my first bow in Couer d'Alene from Bob. you need to teach Bob how to get elk like you do.

From: Bigdan

cervus I tryed helping bob out but every time we went out he would crash his big wheel or stumble and roll down the mtn. I just could not watch him anymore most of the time we got back to camp he would look like Rodney King after the cops got done with him, My mom thought I was beating him up. She said to me his is a slow learner .But its not nice to try and beat it into him. LOL Bigdan

Certainly there are few men alive who can hunt elk the way BigDan can. I'd love to someday tag BULL #1, the likelihood of me ever getting even to 10 is very low. For those of you unfamiliar with him, Dan is a very "ready to help others guy," who has helped me and quite a few others on the "Chat" section hidden over in the Leatherwall forum. After taking a little advice from him, I went from feeling confident shooting at 35-40yds, to feeling pretty comfortable at 60yds.
