Whitetail Deer

Lol i thought you were gonna throw a curveball first question as always, so i picked no shot. Ended up being wrong and now i do have a headache from getting pissed at my self
yeah, me too. I picked A because C didn't look like enough angle to be from the "treestand" they said they were in.
wasn't much of a trick question I guess.
I hope I didnt give the answer away...
I love the "choose your shot based on actual photo, don't compensate for camera."
Followed by:
-Disregard the leaves as they weren't seen from the shooters angle.
I guess it really is going to be a headache edition. LOL
the deer looks small and i won't shoot a fawn. I'll take the zero, thank you
Ok first question and this is starting to give me a headache. Why wouldnt it have been the letter ? (I chose)
Looks like C would have been all shoulder blade. So, I would've aimed a little higher and taken A. That's just me I guess.
DAMMIT! I had a perfect score on the last one, and have already goose-egged on this one.
Here we go!
Pat,
Thanks for the challenge. I'm sure there is a lot of work and planning that goes into each one. Just part of the reason this is the best bowhunting site on the web.
I can't get past question 1, I answered c, and thats all the further I can go
Switchback,
Ya gotta stay tuned, we get a new question each day. Hang in there.
I picked wrong too. Oh well, didn’t like any so picked none.
i chose C because the rest of them didnt look right to me. i also agree that it was a smaller deer but thats not the point of the game. IMO
C to me looks a little low at that steep of an angle...i`m guessing why Pat is calling it a headache is because it`s a single lung hit and the deer lives at least 8 hours after the shot. I had a doe live 12 hours on a one lung hit and it took another arrow to finish her off...looked like the perfect hit to me at the time...100 yards into the trail I knew something was wrong so I backed out..
I agree with the guys who liked A better than C. If it's a nightmare trail, maybe it is the one lung hit I thought was likely shooting at C. I C is the shot, the angle is not as severe as it looked to me.
Question 1 is a no brainer.
has anyone seen my number 2 pencil??
chief400's Link
Think exit not entrance. This may be a lung and back of heart shot. One lung for sure. Look at the pictures I have attached. Just my 2cents
I would have shot it in the head, just kidding. C was the obvious choice just because I think it was exposed enough to get your arrow in.
Why is it that I never agree on your shot placement. I got it right, but I would have picked the average of the three for my shot.
Chief are you using your pictures as evidence that it should or should not be letter C?
I'm with 12yards, I would have shot the average of the three points. My choice got me zippo.
thanks for the freebie to start!
No more Interactive Bloodtrail Challenges for me. After question number 2 (shot placement) on IBC 25, I'm done. It's just not fun to make what I consider a sound judgement based on the information and direction given, and then get zinged. But Good Luck to all you hardy souls who keep playing.
truley it has to do with angle. I have learned this the hard way but mostley with hogs.
you got me. I discussed with my son to confirm a clear miss and not once did I remember to carefully consider the question. This is so fun...I love it!
as the old bar song goes "there is a five dollar charge for whining" Pat is collecting the money.
damn....i gotta learn to read the whole question
"Looks like C would have been all shoulder blade. So, I would've aimed a little higher and taken A. That's just me I guess."
It may just be me, but C looks to be nowhere near the shoulder blade. B seems to be right about the spot that the shoulder bones turn back (the point of the < ) and A would be nearer the actual blade.
awesome. two zeros. I even thought about exactly what Pat gave as the reason I screwed up. Then didn't listen to myself. Come to think of it- I've screwed up in the field by not listening to myself more often than not. I guess I am learning something here.
The Video is not playing for me.....
It could only be "C", A is too high!
9pts. out of 18....I guess I should pay closer attention to the question.
9pts. out of 18....I guess I should pay closer attention to the question.
RTFQ, RTFQ (Read The Friggin Question)....Doh!!
Well call me "sucker" for question 2.....it's like the ACT test all over- just read the question and answer it.... nice one Pat.
argggggggghhhhhhhhhh.......... Read the question and answer it. Pretty simple but NO I messed up and missed it.
yep same here i was even goin to pick the right answer on question 2 but instead went with the obvious choice
Note to self - read the freaking question!
on question one I still would have shoot B its a dead deer within 40 yards with my 70 lbs bow and awesome Buzzcut croadheads!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, pure trickory, headache edition for sure....
What a way to start off the day. Try to out think the obvious. Bring on the next clue.
Ohhh Pat you're so tricky tricky! But you didn't fool me... yet.
Bx3 just thought I would give a visual for why I chose C. Not to point anyone in any direction. Just discussion.
Man, I looked at that thing twenty times, thinking HE MISSED, why is it a bloodtrail chalendge, then I reread the question and got it right!!!
You being SNEAKY!!!!!!
Guys,
Are y'all giving away the answers? What if someone reads the discussion first and then answers the question?
Then again, the discussion is just confusing things so far.
Gotcha! I thought you were trying to say C was wrong and then show pictures that would be evidence for C. I like that link. Good pics.
dirty move Pat, dirty move. I like the way that you think!!!!
Right up there with Monty Python, Holy Grail -- "What is the weight of an unlaiden swallow?"
Kind of like asking, "If you're hunting 18 feet up in a tree and a deer is 32 yards away, how far will your binoculars fall before hitting the ground." :-)
2 for 2 but you almost got me on the last one .
READ THE QUESTION....BOY I GOOFED!!
watch the video and then answer the question.. got me. Did anyone hear "miss" on the video..... I was wrong again zero for two on this one. Now that you have us thinking... what is next?
Got me on #2
I over thought it. Didn't think 6 was enough for a min. so I went with miss.
12 hrs min. is what I always thought.
I dont know about 3 being easy or obvious I didnt like any letter, an average of a,b and c, o.k. but c looks like you could miss left lung its still fun
Man I usually do poorly on these things, I'm batting 1000 so far!!!!
OK I am done with this thing. Pat you say there are tricks you ask for the best shot and You do not say anywhere that your photo of the deer are to be used. You say of the four from the 4 choices below what is the best shot? I still say it is A I agree shoot for the exit hole and if you chose A you have a left lung and a heart shot and the exit hole bleediing through the main shoulder muscle. WIth shot A that deer will not travel 40 yards! Just my thoughts! Does anyone have any aspirin??
Hey, it's working!
I got a headache!
Question 3 was definitely an "opinion" even though I got partial credit. I would split the distance on what was my definition of a perfect shot. C to me was not the "perfect" shot. If you waited until the deer was broadside then you would have had the "perfect" shot. KellyHarris: Will Advil do?
Partial points are better than none I guess. This one could get interesting since we have not even shot the deer yet!!!!!!
I'm figured on D. The deer has already been shot at, by the time it tries to duck your arrow, you wind up back at C and booyah. Come on Pat, I thought we were supposed to be outthinking ourselves!
I still dont know how A didnt give any points? Its quartering away it is obviously left lung and heart? Am I wrong. I had this same shot on my buck this year but quartering to me. Oh well after 80+ deer kills what do I know?
Seminole - I think a morhine pump may be needed ;<)
I was between B and C. B would be a heart shot. C would hit back lung/liver on the left and lung on the right. I would opt for the heart shot but I can see how C works. Personally I would pick the point directly between the 2 and about an inch higher. Actually, screw that! After looking at it again I would still say B was the best available!
I got it right but IMO the virtual deer isn't at as much of an angle as the real dear. Headache edition i was assuming the front two shots, i believe they're A and B, would hit the tree. just my thoughts
I totally disagree with the answer for #3. If you pick C, you hit liver and far lung. You may even hit the top of the stomache. B should be the answer because look at the far front leg. With B you're in line with the heart and will hit at least the left lung. May hit bottom of far lung which will give a great blood trail.
I agree that from the 3D model if you put the arrow right on B it'll go right through the bottom of the heart which would kill the deer quickly. But if you miss B just a little low you miss vitals completely, so why aim for that spot when aiming a little higher puts your arrow dead center in the vitals (upper heart/lung area) and missing a little either way still results in a kill. C in the 3d model looks slightly further back then I would aim, but when you look at the picture of the actual deer you can see there's a tree to contend with. A and B require you to aim just inches from that tree with the risk of sticking the arrow in the tree. Why risk that when C is a safe shot that puts your arrow through all kinds of vitals (liver, lungs, maybe some stomach...).
Yeh but listen to Pat's question he doesnt say go by the camera angle he says from 4 choices below. So with the illustration there is no tree. I followed his orders and got a freakin headache
I keep losing points by hitting the submit button before I select my choice. Is anybody else this clumsy?
Yeah that "go by the 3D model" part is a little confusing. I just assumed that if he just wanted you to go by the model there's no need for the actual photo. Pat probably could have worded that a little differently if he knew there'd be confusion, or maybe I'm confused and you're not supposed to look at the photo and all my logic from my last response is wrong..who knows! its all fun
Did anyone else see Pat's name in the top 200? It looks like he has gotten a few wrong himself.
I figured that, but it still seems pretty funny!
Isn't every heart shot a shallow shot?? I picked B and would still pick it because C looks like it could still result in a gut shot. This isn't so much a headache as it is a criteria based on opinions.
Is it possible to ace two btc's in a row...lol
I just hope Pat didn't actually aim at "C", because thats' not the correct aiming point. It may be the best of the four, but not ideal for sure.
3 for 3 ...
I LOVED the second question Pat !!!!! :)
Yeah, back on track. But to far behind to make the top 200. Neat setup for your kid to watch you, KUDO's on taking her out. She looked pretty excited for you.
I'll agree with an ache, but head aint' where I was thinking.....
I got #1 OK
#2 was a trick question..Pat ALWAYS gets me on them....As we used to say on tests in the Navy---RTFQ...read the er...um...FULL question...
#3--sorry, I disagree on this one...I think B is the right answer. C may be the "right place" but B gives you more margin for error if your shot is deflected (HINT--LIKE THE ONE JUST BEFORE THIS ONE!!!!) OR the deer moves.
#4--refer to #2. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I got 9 points.
BTW--you've got some great kids! Thanks for sharing your family time with us.
4 for 4 so far....I'm sure that will end soon.
That smile on your little girl's face is priceless.
I did pay attention to the video. Of course one waits 30 minutes but I paid attention to your daughter's imitation of the deer crashing down with her head movement, indicating you saw the deer go down. Or that's what I thought I saw as I listened ti and watched the video. She is so cute, her genuine reactions. This is fun. I missed the question of course but this is fun.
I loved your daughter's reaction. Several years ago I arrowed a deer in presence of my son & another with my daughter. Watching your video brought back those great memories, thanks Pat, Rich (NYB)
LOL... Zap! I feel like I just lost at Simon Says!
I was looking for a "between b and C" shot- but nope.... the tree made me choose the correct answer.
I would have started down the tree right after the shot on that one. But I know Pat always says to wait 30 minutes. So I got it right. First time I've gotten this far with 100%! Whoooopppeeeee!
WOW I got one right!! I guess I am only about as good as 50% of all hunters out there since I am 2 out of 4 Now the big question am I in the top 50% or the bottom 50% LOL
WOW looks like she sure enjoyed her time up in the tree with Dad thats great real hard to keep them quite when they get that excited..
Hey Pat, kid question, how do you get them up in the tree? I see the harness ( well done ), but how do they get there? Climber or climbing sticks?? BTW, she's adorable!
got the answer right, only after watching the video, now I see where the headache part might come in!
so far I'm golden! dunno where the headaches are, but this has been the easiest so far for me!
:)
4 for 4
We'll see how long it lasts, I'm sure you'll get me sooner or later ...
Good Shooting
Mike
Question 5 is just wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not fair!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your killing me............. RTFQ and answer it. It's just that simple. Just wish I would RTFQ and answer it and not second guess myself. This is a blast. I can't figure out the actress your daughter looks like but she looks just like her (the actress) when she was little.
Hey Pat, When do the hard questions start? LOL
I just aced #5. That tells me I'm getting set up for a sucker punch...
Was stuck between two answers on #5.....I guessed wrong :-(
ET maybe?
Since she's your sis, you can get away with that :-)
Drew Barrymore.................
You Suck!!! or I Suck!!! not sure which?
Question 5 just ain't right!!!
Dohhhhhh!
this is stupid. The question about how long you wait is not always 6 hours. I have had deer lay down in plain sight; in easy range after a gut hit. Why not shoot again? There are tons of other situations that lead to not waiting; including heavy snow falling; seeing the deer in a spot where a stalk can be easy to make- coyote presence- and really; in this case the deer was not shot- so the last answer is correct based on its wording.
What is gained by us by the trickery of Pats questions when it relates to bloodtrails?
OK his daughter is cute as a button- and it was fun to see her reaction and stuff... but did this interactive bloodtrail serve us in any way? Not yet.
my score may suck... this interactive blood trail sucks even more.
Well...guess WHO is getting coal this Christmas???!!
SOME elves just wake up on the wrong side of the tree, I guess.....
Pat Jr.--that was cold. You really are her brother.
I know it's against the rules but I'd be "whining" if it wasn't for that Priceless smile.
Chief400, How about Drew Barrymore in "Firestarter"?
That's the last one I answer fast! can't say why so as not to give it away but definetly mind games
I thought it looked familiar? All 9's for me.
I think Q5 is absolutely rediculous. How is that of any educational value?lol. I bet if someone else made that question up Pat would miss it himself.
the real smart people read this discussion; then go to make their answers.
The real smart people see this for what it is. A game, nothing more, nothing less.
I hear cackling laughter coming up from the bowels of Pat's dungeon...
It's a game. If you cheat you get what you deserve, nothin'. If you win it's worth every penny.
ok I officially suck!!! I guess I don't know my blood splatter pattern.
I guess I"m lucky all my animals I've shot have been found following the blood trail since I can't follow a splatter pattern.
Whew! 6 is at least easy. I could read the splatter easy enough, but hard for me to think the deer could go very far squirting like that.
Yeah, I bet he took out the "stomach, center of liver, entire right lung" ;-)
I think this was one of the easier challenges
Ok, so I missed a couple, but that's my fault for not listening to the directions. But all in all this is alot of fun. Keep it up Pat!!! and Guys... Don't take it so serious
I am officially an idiot. Found the deer, sitting here looking right at it.....and still hit the wrong stinking letter.
No way,I see a bedded deer in front of the tree in C and its not dead. Bad hit!
Ok I got clue 7 correct and luckily I am at work I completely shutdown the network trying to expand this picture to find it??? Just Joking. But I did need to save the picture and blow it up to make sure. You could definatly see where the deer had run but to see it was hard.
Well, there went that, these things are hell on a guy that's color blind in red and green .... :)
so far I am seven for seven! best I've ever done on one! :-)
One of the few 'find the deer' photos that actually shows useful detail. Great pic, Yeah!!
G
who's gotten them all right? Other than the amazing Fuzzy. Not Me.
OK pat, this kills! First one I've EVER gotten this far on with all 9's! give us the last clue!
#7 is driving me crazy, i think I'm going to go blind if I try to look any harder. Relaxing my vision doesn't help either. I can see the trail but no dang deer!!
OK, I couldn't take it anymore so I guessed and got it wrong. Then, I read the correct answer and went back and STILL cant see the deer. I think you're going to have to put a arrow on this picture pointing to the deer for me to see it Pat (seriously, I'd love to see that deer). Did you burry it in the leafs? All the images look the same to me.
After #5 it became dumb... Changing colors? Great learning device? Come on.
If i had listened to my inner voice I may have had one wrong but I wouldn't have missed question 1. The shot is a little low for my taste but still the best of the options. Better luck next time. Bob
I've decided to take up knitting
HAS ANYONE ELSE FELT LIKE GETTING A FLOGGING WOULD BE LESS PAINFUL??
I had to ask my nine year old son to find the deer. I really had a hard time seeing it.
long time looker first time responder man i stink at this challenge but really enjoy it cant wait till next one
stumbled at the finish line - i'm a choke artist
I have trouble believing your autopsy.
LBB
Yeah baby! Perfect score! Pat, I agree with all your answers LOL
Very fun (again), keep it up.
Pat I hate you, I will use your likeness for target practice, I will curse your name till the end of days....... When is the next one?????
I have never hunted whitetail before or hunted out of a tree stand so I am happy with my answers.
Pat, please explain the arrow after this is over, i'm confused!
That was a good challenge. I wanna do another one.
I AM A FREAKING IDIOT is what I have learned from this thing. I sure hope Pat doesnt put up an IQ test. If I tested on that like I did herre I would probably score around a 30
autopsy is done on humans, necropsy is done on animals
If I throw out the 2 questions where I should of RTFQ (read the friggin question) I would of had a perfect score! It was fun! So with that said, bring on the next challenge!
ack! pulled a three on the last clue! just KNEW there was stomach involved in that hit!
Pat, aer you sure you know what a deer stomach looks like? ;-)
I have never gotten them all right before. I usually don't even get most of them right. Maybe I should only play when it is a headache edition!
thanks for the game Pat.I had a blast
Pat, good challenge. Thanks for putting it on.
Crap! My nose is bleeding from banging it on my desk!!!
Thanks for the challenge Pat, that is amazing that that shot didn't get the stomach, not saying I don't believe you in the least, just find it amazing and unlikely. Maybe she has a REALLY small stomach. I would love for someone to PM me a picture of the deer in the woods with a arrow pointing to it because for the life of me, I cant see it.
Click on the 'Enlarge picture' link just below the zone pic. Even my old eyes can make out the ears. 8^)
G
That was the best challenge yet.
LMAO....this is too fun! number too pat was awesome - got me!
Didn't call you a liar, Pat, I just said I had trouble believing your autopsy.
LBB
Finally! The carnage is over! Not the kill, MY SCORE! Thanks Pat.
hey pat would like to welcome you to indiana to hunt we got does comin out our ears where i live
A perfect shot......the second time !
This is the first time I've ever gotten a perfect score doing these things. 8-)
This is a joke, changing hue in photoshop to obtain lung shot look. Get a life
