Back in NY after the poll I took the other day. Up in my field stand with the rifle. Trail cam pics around camp show lots of chasing activity at night. Been in 45 min so far nothing yet. Got the encore 30/06 hoping to see that 10 pt again but the shootem standards are pretty low today. Nice no wind 25 degrees

Just missed a big ol 8 pt wide open at 60 yds. Don’t know what happened stopped him with a grunt. Crosshairs on chest squeezed trigger missed

This is the first year in my entire life where I never checked the zero on my gun before going hunting. It cost me a beauty of an 8 pt. At 65 yds. Just checked the gun back at camp. 5 inches low at 70yds. I can’t believe my laziness cost me a beauty. And the worst part is I know better. I learned a valuable lesson today. CHECK MY FRIGGEN GUN. It was beautiful, a doe and the 8 came a prancin out of the bush right at me. I let them come from about 150 yds. At 60 or 65 I mouth meahed them. They stopped dead in their tracks. I squeezed the trigger and watched them bound away across the field 700 yds to the next woodsline. I am crushed but have no one to blame but me.

Still a great hunt, and a great learning experience! Stupid ought to hurt. You'll get his big brother next time!

Ouch. I took my gun to the range shot great. Next day went to Berkshires and had wide buck come in at 50-60 yards and bam miss wtf. Took gun back to range and was way off. Somehow scope mount loosened up. I try and check all my stuff from now on. Figures as it would have been my first Berkshire deer. Haven’t gotten another shot at one since. I feel your pain.
