75% or 85% Letoff?

What is the pros and cons to 75 and 85% letoff? Is their a speed difference? Shoot ability difference? I currently have 80% on my Elite so 85 sounds nice but what is the trade off?

85 is illegal here so that kind of narrows it down for me:) Generally a little more speed with 75 and some prefer the slightly higher holding weight for accuracy. Others like the high let off. Personal preference really.

Shoulder problems are from drawing the bow incorrectly.

Shoulder problems can be caused from over- use, such as my case... shooting 10-12000 arrows a year out of a recurve. They can be caused from repetative use over long periods of time... say 45 years of bow hunting and the aging process. I doubt 5 lbs of letoff will make much difference at all. The draw force curve has a lot more to do with it than let off. You can take two bows with the same draw weight but different design and one can draw a LOT harder than the other.

Funny the things I stress over lol. I shot good with 65% back in the day but 85 comes in handy when turkey and deer hunting. 75 has a few more FPS with it ugh decisions.

Look at it this way......if you use 85% that makes your compgun 10% closer to a crossgun than the 75%. Hope this helps! ;-)

I think the backwalls tend to be a bit more jumpy with say a 75% vs 85% letoff... can relax more... but as brought up consider where you'll be hunting and whats legal...

Question: Why would it matter in states that allow crossbows in archery season? Seems a mute point (law)

I have a chill x that you can shoot 75% or 85% rock mods.
Shooting with the 85% mods is sweet. The draw cycle is smooth and the wall at full draw is solid. There was a learning curve coming from my old 65% let off compound adjusting to 85%.
The 75% let off mods on my bow were a nightmare to shoot. The draw cycle was harsh and it felt if you crept a millimeter from the wall the bow would rip your shoulder off. I tried with the 75% for a while but it was just not fun to shoot, and I love shooting a bow.

What I've seen and heard, as you probably have, is most of the "what the @@##" misses come from high letoff bows. The guys I've talked to don't have it locked down but the general consensus is the back end is just too wammbly. You don't have any line tension in the string and the little things like face contact make a bigger difference.

I just bought a Hoyt Carbon Defiant, 2017 model. Its 85% and maybe a bit more. My release is going to take some work as its great shooting, but the low holding weight is touchy with mu Scott Mongoose I've used for 25+ years. I personally believe that a higher holding weight helps to get a clean release.

Either one is less efficient than 65%. If letoff percentage gets any higher you'll have to push the string to propel the arrow.
