There was just a thread, on what to use for crossing creeks etc. I just tested out this am, my new "packable" waders. I got them from Cabelas, they are made from Hodgman, cost 15.00 and pack in a small case. I believe the weight is about 11 ounces
I bought the xl/2xl chest wader. I slipped them on over my clothes and boots without any issues. water tight, they reached way up over my breast area. worked very well for what I need......
easy to take off. with points it cost me 4.00 Again for wading across a deep stream, and taking care of them, they worked well, and should be okay for fall
I am sure the wiggies will last longer, but these go higher up on me, and for the costs they are a no brainer

Hip waders for fishing work well, the ones with the boots built in, they aren't nearly as light, but would hold up much better in the long term. I guess it's all in what you need at the time, and how often it will be used vs how far you have to hike in. One mile with an extra pound or two won't hurt you at all. 5 miles or more and that's a different story all together.

The last "new" product I tried was 11 years ago when I bought a Therma Cell, and it DOES work!

I agree Scar, have light hips, but even for me, and my walk is less than a mile, I just need to cross deep water, take off and pack away and move on. Problem with hip boots is now I have to lug them along,,,, no thanks,,,,,
Hunting the UP, and for swamp streams, they will be the trick

The last "new" product I just purchased was that lantern they advertise at the same time as the super bright flashlight (can't remember what it's called). Don't know what the lantern is called, but it takes AA batteries and I've used it several times - couple times quite long - and it still puts out a very nice bright light. I haven't thrown it off a 3 story building, put it in a fire, or froze it and then smashed with a sledge hammer, or ran over it with a big truck - but it is bright and works great.
Happy with it and am going to purchase another one.

I got one of those blowup pillows for backpacking (Sea to Summit- but forget the model name) and tried it out this weekend. Worked great. Easy to inflate and deflate and has a cloth outer shell so was very comfy! Supposed to be able to wash it also. And very compact and light weight.
