Trail cam pics set up around a waterhole at one of our buffalo areas. Pics are from this week. For 2020 we currently still have five buffalo left on quota of our original 25 but we are acquiring new areas every week so that number will increase. 7 Day Package - $8800

This is what old dagga boys are supposed to look like!

30-Jan-19
What other species can you add on to one of those buff hunts?

30-Jan-19
Any species available at the particular venue hunted. Usually guys do a buffalo and sable if sable are in the area. So it depends on where we are hunting. We have two buffalo hunting areas in Zululand, two in the North West Province, one in the Western Cape Province, and four in the Limpopo Province. Different species exist in these varying provinces.

Here is a buffalo of a lifetime we have exclusive offer on. Estimated to be 52” and existing on one of our Zululand areas. Price is being negotiated now but this old bull will fetch a fortune.

30-Jan-19
Holy Cow Ken those are some bosses. Trophy’s for sure.

Badass !!!

From: AZ~Rich
30-Jan-19
I would think that bull is worth much more as a breeder than sold as a trophy. Assuming it’s still breeding.

31-Jan-19
Too old to breed otherwise worth over $100,000.

That third picture certainly illustrates what they say, that when they look at you it's as if you owe him money!

‘Dagga’ in dagga boy refers to mud...buffalo enjoy mud baths.

Great pictures Ken, however, it's really sad to know that a bull like that big one is can only be killed by someone that can afford him. Just my opinion John

Cool video...

BTW, how is ‘Dagga' pronounced with short or long "A"...

03-Feb-19
Short A

03-Feb-19
Also “dugga” with a “u”.

“it's really sad to know that a bull like that big one is can only be killed by someone that can afford him. Just my opinion”

Maybe “just” your opinion.... but it’s not just you.

When you pay by the pound (or by the inch), it’s just shooting livestock. Big, Mean, Nasty Livestock that can kill you if you slip up, to be sure, but still just livestock when you get down to it.

"When you pay by the pound (or by the inch), it’s just shooting livestock."

That's just silly. The pricing structure for the hunt has close to 0 impact on the hunt itself. Trying to diminish the accomplishment because you don't like the outfitter's pricing structure for the hunt, regardless of whether that actually has any impact on how the hunt is conducted, is simply a misguided projection of your value system.

I think the look of "you owe me money" has changed to "I'm here to collect!". Awesome photos!!

Boy those things look like they could put a hurt on ya with just their eyes. If I knew I was dying of some terrible disease and didn't want to suffer, I'd book a stickbow hunt with no backup with you for one of those.

From: Medicinemann
07-Feb-19
TrapperKayak, If you go after one of those with your stickbow, what makes you think that you are not going to suffer? LOL......it might be quicker than the disease, but he is going to make you pay!!

Med., I think it would be so quick and powerful I'd never feel a thing! :) Stomped and gored into the SA red dirt so hard, like a fly under a falling redwood.

how old is a bull like that giant one ? just curious

07-Feb-19
Can’t say specifically how old a bull is. The can live up to 20 years and as they get older their horns can become broomed off at the tips.

Here’s a photo for Jay V. who’s hunting buff with us in April. This photo was taken from a bow hide by a plains game hunter a couple of seasons ago at the venue we’re hunting in April. The buffalo have never been hunted here before so this nice bull should be even better now. To field judge a buffalo you first look for a nice hard boss like this one has and then you gauge his width. If the horns are even with the ears he’s about 35/36” wide. If wider than the ears you estimate. You also have to look at the size of the head as skull sizes can vary greatly from one bull to another. Given all that this bull is a very nice mature buffalo of about 38” in width.

This is a young, soft bossed bull and should not be taken until he matures. Notice the hair between the horns at the boss and the under development of the boss itself.

Its too bad you cant bring the meat home, its rich, deep red, firm and delicious over a wood fired grill. And obviously a ton of it.

You can eat your fill while you’re there though.

I guess you just go home and tell your friends that the only bull you saw was “just out of range”.

A little hard to tell from the photo of this old bull we shot this past season but he was covered in ticks. You can see them between the bulls legs.

and....Cape Buffalo will charge even when not wounded. Look at the pitiful first shot by the client. He hit branches in a bush far above and left of the bull.

08-Feb-19

Ken Moody Safaris's Link
...and sometimes you’re not so lucky. Guy shot over the vitals on the charge and suffered the consequences. You must brain or spine shoot a charging buffalo and the shot must be spot on to stop the charge. This guy was very lucky as buffalo will usually stay on top of you pounding you into the dirt with those bosses. If you choose to hunt buffalo, hunt with a seasoned buffalo hunter not a novice. Your very life could depend on the guy backing you up.

08-Feb-19
That should get your blood pumping

There's that pic of that muddy badass again...8^)

Wow, that dude with the charging buff was lucky... Dang, gives me the willies... Not to highjack or get off the subject, but think I'd rather had a short barreled open choked shotgun with buckshot...

08-Feb-19
That would probably blind him and get him really angry. But not a chance of killing it

This photo was taken in Kruger by a friend.

I have not. Very rare.

From: Bou'bound
08-Feb-19
Are your hunts gun or bow or hunters choice

08-Feb-19
Either

08-Feb-19
A shotgun with buckshot is illegal and would be ineffective against any charging DG. Some PHs use them for following up wounded leopard but that is a marginal choice IMO.
