I assume those came across from Botswana?

No, they range freely all over the area near Swaziland. Our Zululand area is free range for all intents and purposes with the river side of the reserve open. During hunting season the water is about ankle deep so everything wanders on and off the property. We’ve seen elephant herds in the hundreds and the resident buffalo herd is 400 plus but again, it fluctuates as they travel on and off the reserve. White rhino, Black rhino, elephant, buffalo, leopard are all present and for some reason, I tend to run into black rhino every time I’m out buffalo hunting. These encounters will put starch in your shorts! I love buffalo hunting there though it would be very difficult with a bow as the buff are wired.

I would have no problem using a rifle on a proper stalk. I would rather sneak into 40-60 yds with a rifle than shoot one sitting in a blind at 20 with a bow. It’s about the track and stalk

That’s exactly the essence of a proper buffalo hunt. The tracking, stalking, sneaking in and making it happen while knowing that any second you might get “busted” and blow it. You know what that’s about. That tense feeling just before the shot followed by the euphoria when it’s well made or the pit in the stomach when it’s not. It’s why we do it.
