I don’t know about you, but I’m getting kind of anxious. I’m in for elk, deer, Barbery sheep, bighorn sheep, oryx and speed goat. Hopefully we will know something very soon! Good luck to all who haven’t boycotted NM ;)

New Mexico is one of two western state where I apply and have never drawn a tag (the other being Nevada). Hopefully, I won't be able to say that much longer! Good luck to all!

I read someone saying that they normally post on Wednesday. I don't know if that is true or not, but I think that would be 4/21. I just want to let everyone in advance know that their odds of drawing are just a tick worse than what they originally thought because there is an elk tag with my name on it in NM. :)

Rumor I heard from someone who should know is NMDGF received a substantial increase in applications this year after a substantial increase last year. Every publication seems to bemoan hunter numbers decreasing yet every year in every state applications go up and draw odds go down...

It's the same with campgrounds, hiking trails, mountain bike trails, etc. People EVERYWHERE where they never used to be. Maybe after COVID settles down all these people will go back inside to their video games or wherever they've been until now...

Amen smarba, the places I go turkey hunting back in the day would maybe have 1 or 2 rigs at the public pieces I hunt. Now there are 10-12. We sold 33% more archery turkey tags last year.

I have a hard time getting tags as it is. Now, with the higher app numbers, its gotten real bad. Used to always get a January deer tag in a unit that always went undersubscribed and a archery javelina tag. Now I don't even get those. I know data doesn't support it, but I feel there's got to be a bias against solo applicants.
Anyways, hunter participation numbers being higher should be good for us but it sucks when can't draw a basic deer tag in your home State.

East or west side JL? I don’t know of any private or much private that borders it on the west side but there could be. Lots of private on the east side that are in units 5a and 5b.

6a is in the Jemez and there is no private bordering the Jic there. There is me strip of 6a that borders the highway coming into Cuba but it’s only about a mile wide and maybe 3-4 miles long but it’s not private either. Did you mean 5a or 5b?

2 years ago I put in for the first time ever and drew a tag. Killed an average bull on the last day and was happy with that. Put in again this year. Sounds like if I draw 2 for 2 I may get shot!-D

I read most states have seen a 30% increase in apps. Due to out of country travel being restricted and people choosing to not hunt out of the country.
