What’s the latest news on the Mycoplasma bovis that hit the Wyoming antelope herd. We were planning on a hunt around Gillette, any information would be appreciated. Wondering if we should put in or hold out for another year?

Earlier report says confined north of Gillette. Previous occurrences the die off stopped after April.

But this years weather pattern is different so maybe a different outcome.

One study found that that up to 79 per cent of bison herds in Western Canada have at least one seropositive animal and that nearly 80 per cent of herds with seropositive animals had no history of M. bovis disease, suggesting non-clinical carriers are common. Many questions remain about M. bovis in antelope. 5. Until its recent discovery in antelope, documented cases of M. bovis in free-ranging ruminants were uncommon.

The emerging situation in antelope appears serious. Approximately a one-half to one million pronghorn exist in North America. Herds commonly overlap with range cattle and ranched bison. Are they threatened?

Possible tag reduction in another area of Wy due to bad winter.

Current proposals call for reductions statewide.

“”They are reducing the “any antelope” license by 3,650 and “doe/fawn” license by 5,775. DiRienzo said this is effective to the majority of antelope in the state, so it will be a noticeable decrease for most hunters.””

Good thread. I was waiting on word to start trickling in about the WY antelope herd/tag situation for this upcoming season. It maybe wise to hold off dropping the points this year until next year. I did put in for the MT antelope tags. We have been hunting in SE MT. That new antelope disease by Gillette is of interest. Hopefully it doesn't spread too far...especially to the north.

Wyoming quotas have been done for a while now. They rubber stamped the April 5 updates.
