Slate congrats on the brown bear!
Thanks Craig, I didn’t think many would want to hear it here because it was shot with a rifle but I will give you a short version Grant.
Story please! Who cares if it was rifle. We’re all hunters and it’s our choice to decided if we want to kill with a bow shotgun rifle or muzzleloader!
2021 Kodiak Alaska bear hunt finally happened. I had this trip planned for some time. I left April 18th and started hunting on the 21st. I saw approx 30 bears. On average 4 a day. One day I didn’t see any. The days are spent sitting on the beaches glassing for 12 hours no joke. Waiting for the right bear and right situation. I was blessed with absolutely great weather. On day 7 I spotted a bear on a deer carcass so we decided to head on into the jungle and put a stalk on. 2 hours later we ended up 70 yards from the bear and his deer carcass. We waited 4 hours for him to give us an opportunity. We decided that we needed to make a move and go in after him. I ended up shooting this beautiful bear at 10 yards on a charge. I shot him 3 times chest and both shoulders and he died only feet from me. The most amazing hunt I have ever been on. An absolutely amazing animal. There is nothing in the world I have experienced like hunting Kodiak Island Brown bears. It was an amazing trip all around.
Wow Slate, that's incredible! Just experiencing the country and getting to observe all those bears would be amazing, but getting it done on a great charging bear is over the top.
Do you think there's anything that could come close to helping prepare for that "moment of truth" of the charge? I'd like to think I could pull it off, but I could also very easily end up as a cowering pile of bear food.
I’m not sure Tyler. I never expected it to happen that way but, there was no time to think about it. It felt like an out of body experience when it happened. It was a crazy adrenaline high which I’m still riding weeks later. I also had my guide right next to me as back up to shoot also if needed
Slate that’s quite the adrenaline rush! Holy crap!
On the board with my earliest brown bear to date. Now I’m confused what to do with my weekends for the next month!
A picture typically helps after a post like that lol
Wow!! Heck of a story there....congrats. What kind of rifle were you using to get off 5 (or 3??) shots on a charge? Kinda surprised the guide let the bear get that close without him firing a defensive shot.
Dandy bear Trevor, way to get it done!
If you are bored, you could always draw a raffle hunt winner...
Funny John others have asked the same 300 ultra Mag. It’s a bolt action.
Beautiful bear Trevor. That makes the “big black bear” here in Massachusetts im keeping tabs on for the fall look small! Lol
Congratulations Slate, that's a helluva a bear. Hunting brown bear on Kodiak is my dream hunt. Hopefully will happen in the next few years. I also have a 300 Ultra mag. What were you using for ammo?
Now that’s a bear!!!! Strong work my friend!!
We may not get the numbers but holy cow Slate and Tembry!
Joe I’m using the Nosler AccuBond it’s 180 grain.
Finally cracked the 9’ mark with this one. Bears are notorious for ground shrinkage but this one was the first to shock me in the opposite direction.
Wow that griz is huge, congrats TEmbry
Great pic! Congrats Tembry!
Great Bear Trevor! Wish we could have doubled! Next time :)
Congrats Trevor! He is a beauty!
Awesome bear Tembry! You have a story for us?
Congrats to all and thanks for posting up the pics so far!! I've been loading up some Nosler Accubonds in a few calibers.
TEmbry a story would be sweet
First bear for a friend, from one of my baits. Rifle shot, but within bow range. 7 footer and most likely over 20". Manitoba, May 15.
Love it!!! ‘Tis the Season!
6’ 3” Montana bear. Exactly 1” smaller than my bear last year, but he had a bigger head.
1 sask bear down and trying for #2 this weekend. Somebody has to make up for all the bears that Americans won’t shoot this year. Grin

Great work guys. I’ve been “pushed” two years in a row on two Canada Bear hunts and once in Ak. I can’t wait to get back in the bear woods. Currently scheduled for Kodiak Spring of ‘22.
I took this one in the last few hours of an 8 day hunt and my son took his first two days earlier.

With no hunters in camp again this year I took the opportunity to go sit for an evening and hunt for myself. Didn’t have any bear in particular that I was after. More less just wanted to sit and take some pictures. 2nd hour into the sit this bear walked right in like he owned the place. I was sitting in a natural ground blind, grabbed my bow, watched him feed for 5+ minutes at 10 yards. (Got a few cell phone pics). I waited till he was at 14 yards and broadside. Took the shot and watched him fall over. 25 yard recovery. This is the first and only bear we are Hunting this year. Last year we also only killed 1 bear. Next spring is going to be an unreal hunt.
Nice Adam congrats to you guys.

Right in the middle for this American.
Congrats Nick. Well done.
Did you get him over bait? Are they fitting yet?

Fitting real well, yeah, into game bags and freezer.
Absolute crazy week last week up here in Northern Alberta. 5 bears were taken, 4 are over 20" and the last is 19 12/16. All green scores but we are confident that the 4 will dry out over 20"
Great bears Kyle, 4 over 20"s is crazy, congrats
Some fabulous bears taken...Kyle, MQQSE, Nick and many more!!! Way to go!
I did get a dandy spot and stalk 2 days ago. Half done with the meat cutting right now. Hunted him 12 days....had beer can sized scat, biggest I'd seen on a black bear. Finally arrowed him at 3:00 PM after a stretch of 33 straight hours of rain and being holed up. The bear and I both were ready for some action.
Great job guys! Some brutes hitting the dirt!
I can't find a black bear to save my life, once my 365 is up I'll be ready though. 6 different adults in 8 days.
Congratulations Nick and everyone!!!
KyleSS- Thats incredible man! BIG BEARS

I am 19 years old and I started hunting last fall. I went to Lethbridge Alberta in March to meet up with Dean Degner to shoot the bow at the there local range, and to trap some beavers to use as bear bait. We have a beautiful cabin up at East Trout in Northern Saskatchewan. Me, my grandpa, and my dad started baiting April 15th in a spot we have never baited at before. After a slow start with about a month of no bears on the trail camera, I was starting to get anxious. We were starting to see some bears on the cam May 26th. On May 30th 2021 I was given the opportunity to harvest a nice brown bear at the site. A memory I’ll never forget...
Awesome work Connor! Great shot and great perseverance! Not sure how u posted under my user name/handle...but dang nice work and what a great experience to have your dad and Papa along!
4th time i saw this bear, every time he circled the bait, got down wind and bolted, he tried to do the same the other daybut gave me a 30 yard shot through a small opening, normally i would've waited but knowing this bear i let fly, perfect hit he ran 30 yards. 65lb PSE evo nxt, fmj, snyper bh. Squared 7 foot 4 inches, skull measured 20 8/16"s
Congrats on a monster. Awesome bear. Awesome bow. Awesome camo.
Another giant Jason! Very nice!! Congrats, way to make it happen.
If I was forced to bet $100 on which was least likely to happen ......:::the sun coming up tomorrow or carcus not killing a monster ............ I would put my money on the sun not coming up
I’m not saying I would win I’m just saying my chances would be better that the sun wouldn’t come up
I know alot of folks want a color phase bear and they are unique ... However, there is something simply majestic about a giant pure black bear with a really deep coat ... Awesome pics fellas! Congrats to all who have been successful this spring!
After seeing lots of bears this year including 8 colour phase ones, when my daughter who was on her first bear hunt said daddy shoot that bear on my last day to hunt… 2nd sask tag filled.

Alaska spot-n-stalk interior grizzly at 20yds. Pretty intense hunt!
Some great pics and stories here! Congratulations and please keep them coming. The grizz pics are so intense. What a great hunt that must be…
28 so far but what quality with the browns and grizzly falling. Good spring.
Way to go T-Roy!! Good Grizzly!
Those Browns are gorgeous! Congrats fellas!
Congrats all! No luck on my solo DIY ID bear, but still had a great trip. Thanks to Mark for the assist on getting the baiting permits to me!
Congrats again Troy. Looking at the pics you texted me on my phone don't do him justice. Looking forward to the full story!!
Troy can you share the highlights of that hunt. Awesome.
T-Roy
Congratulations on an incredible bear.
Looking forward to reading about the hunt.
Thanks guys. I’m planning on doing a thread on my hunt, as soon as I get caught up a little bit with my workload.
work? work?..........what the heck?............... there is a grizzly story to be told. work will be there tomorrow.
Haha bou. Let the man work a bit and gather his thoughts. He killed an apex predator at 20 yards with a bow. His hearts still recovering from the adrenaline rush. Lol
Not many trees to climb in that pic , Troy!!! This should be a great story!
Should be several good stories, looking at some of the success! Congrats to all and especially the Long Claw killers!!
Not many to hide behind, either, Rod!
Congrats t-roy! Very impressive! I'm looking forward to the story too.
Grizzlies are at a totally different level! Congrats guys
Beautiful bears everyone. Bear hunting is so much fun
Man, sure would like to go after a grizzly one day!
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This was without a doubt, the most thrilling, heart pounding, emotional roller coaster of a hunt I've ever done. It all started with a 5 yard "less than ideal" shot on this big boar that almost walked in my lap. I wish I could say that it went as perfect as t-roy..... but I was happy to get the bear in the end after a 2 1/2 mile chase.
Congrats on your bear, Alan!
Another shit year for numbers on this thread thanks to Covid
Yeah but we’re making up for it in quality
Love seeing all the success, especially on the griz and brown bears. Congrats! Here is a Wyoming bear taken on June 11. Had to use a buddy's lefthanded kids bow due to shoulder surgery.
Shooting em left handed ain’t no big deal, Ron! Heck, I shot my grizzly left handed, and even had one eye closed!
Seriously, congrats on still getting it done, even WITH a bum shoulder!
lol t-roy
Congrats, Alan and Ron!
Qian is completing her PhD here in Winnipeg. She took up fishing last year, and found some success. Her friends, non-hunters, thought she should try hunting. She contacted me and we arranged a 1-day hunt. She would use my crossbow, and try and get herself a bear. We couldn't be picky, but sows and extremely small boars would be off-limits. It took a little while for her to get comfortable with the crossbow, but they are very easy to use and she was drilling bulls-eyes very shortly after shooting. She had studied shot placement on YouTube before the hunt and was confident. Well, she made a good shot, and the bear ran only 30 yards before death moaning. Her reaction is pretty cool on video!

Super nice looking bear Matt. Congrats
Shot the one 8/23/2021 at Whitefish Lodge, Wawa Ontario. Using my Black Widow longbow, 47#@28”. I saw 16 bears in two days. I hit my he bear broadside, arrow went all the way through, and the bear went about 40 yards.
I was so happy to be able to get back into Canada and kill my 5th bear at Pine Acres Camp in Ontario.

Unfortunately due to a shoulder injury I had to take a rifle out. Winchester 92 in 357 mag. 158 grain JSP pushed by a max load of Lil Gun powder. I shot him at the base of the neck while he was standing on his hind legs raking a tree with his claws. Although not a big bear (official was 256#) he was incredibly aggressive. He couldnt figure out where I was so he would blindly charge an area and grunt then claw the trees. He chased out the other 2 bear I was watching which sealed his fate. He was DRT btw. I couldnt believe how much damage that round did to him, it looked like I hit him with a 308.
Small sow. Not a bowkill.
Manitoba bear from Sept 3rd. Hunted with Evan Proctor, great guide, he really worked hard to get me on a good bear, great trip!
Here's a still taken from my video of the lighted nock just before it goes through.
Thats a cool pic. Good timing!
Good job Cory. All the pre hunt test drama was worth it
My 12 year old nephew wanted to try hunting. I told him if he took his hunter safety and practiced with the crossbow I'd take him. Actually the crossbow is very easy to use. I'm sure if it was legal my 6 year old could use it. Well the nephew made a great shot. The 6'4 boar didn't make it past 30 yards. He used a 3 blade VPA.
I had a client the other day and he shot a very nice bear, probably 6'9 squared and it looked like a perfect hit. We could not find the bear. He was using a Sevr 1.5. I have not been happy with their customer service and now their performance. I have since sold my 9 Sevr broadheads.
Anyways a big congratulations to Elijah on his first big game animal!
Big MN sow. Had both bow and gun with me as yesterday was my last day to hunt. She wouldn’t come in and give me a shot with bow. Getting dark so I grabbed the rifle.
Beautiful bear Jason did you get a chance to weigh her because that’s one big mama. Congratulations

Congrats, Chris! Love the “V” on the chest.
Congratulations Chris S. Nice bear and some nice looking Plott hounds. Did he go up the tree or did the hounds have him at bay?
First time I ever hunted behind dogs. It was no cakewalk the bear treated after two hours closest we could get was 1.2 miles through a knee-deep mucky swamp. He treed about 25 feet up on an island. Took just short of four hours to drag him out.It was really cool to watch the dogs work. Wish I got a better picture of the white patch it’s in the shape of a butterfly it looks awesome now I have to do a half mount of some sort to show it off.
