Latest podcast from Kifaru interviewing Don Trump, Jr where they cover some interesting things on Back Country Hunters and Anglers (BHA) that I wasn't fully aware of. Curious to get folks thoughts.
I knew BHA were liberals. And when they were talking about outdoor hunting companies owned by liberal investers, which also donated money toward anti-predator hunting, they were talking about Firstlite. Won't be supporting them.
I agree, Travis. I knew they were liberal but the points they raised went even beyond the typical ethos (in my opinion). They were raising valid points to suggest they are essentially directly contrary to what we as hunter's want and stand for. I thought the points they hit on were enlightening, or at least for me they were.
I think the BHA is nothing more then another arm of political banter. Disguised under the nifty name and mission statement.
It’s like all other things in life. If you are intent on doing something, it really isn’t hard to determine what’s in the best interest of your desires. It simply isn’t. Yet, we’ve become a culture of compromise. And politics is at the center of that driving force.
I have yet to listen to the podcast. But, I will. And, I’m sure it’ll be nothing new to anyone who’s done their home work. Don Jr. Is a very intelligent man.
Let’s keep in mind that Donald Trump Junior has friends who are blocking public land access right now to their monstrous properties they fly private planes into, he has spent more on hunting trips than some of us will make in a lifetime.
While I would agree with him on most things and it’s certainly not a crime to be rich it’s important to remember people who are just trying to access public lands and waters.
I don’t agree with BHA on things such as predator hunting and their approval of liberal appointments but there’s no one else out there protecting public lands from privatization and land lock.
I would love to hear the flipside of when organizations like ducks Unlimited and sportsman for wildlife take bribes from rich hunters and guiding operations and groups. They have problems of their own if you follow the money.
There is no perfect organization but no one else is doing the work that BHA is doing. I would be interested in other groups I could send money to who are doing the same if anyone knows of any.
Join RMEF. They are all about opening up and preserving public land without the leftist elitist politics. There are plenty of rich liberals who own big ranches and are also blocking access to public lands. Land Tawney knows plenty of them right there in Montana. Last time I checked, and please correct me if I'm wrong, David Peterson hunts public land that is blocked from public access by his property he owns.
^Yep, RMEF does a great job of land/wildlife conservation for the general public
RMEF!!! Take the money you’re giving BHA And give it to RMEF!
I listened to the podcast today. Thanks for posting. I’m not a Trump fan or a fan of Jr. However, you can definitely tell that Don Jr. is passionate about the outdoors and hunting. You have to give him that. He is also articulate and does a good job logically communicating his points. And he made some good points. Trump did pass The Great American Outdoors Act and that was a big positive deal. I think Don Jr. was in his dads ear about that. Kudos.
A couple things I think they missed the mark on the podcast. Just because you are a hunter doesn’t make you an active conservationists. Propagation of a game species for the benefit of hunting is not conservation and it alone doesn’t make you a conservationist. That is game management. If your a conservationist, conserving the ecosystem (habitat and the flora/fauna including predators) is the goal. And hunting is a great tool for wildlife and habitat management (indirectly) which is essential to conservation. I think they miss that point.
The other issue is this false idea that you have to choose sides on everything or that any hunting/outdoors organization (or political party for that matter) always reflects your ideals. It’s all black and white, right and wrong. If you are in lock step with any organization (BHA, RMEF, NRA, etc.) all the time then you are a follower…unwilling to stand for your own ideals. There are things I disagree with with everyone I know and every organization I belong to. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have a net positive result. If we as hunters cut every organization or other hunters that do not agree with our own philosophy all the time then it will be you alone standing at the end of that road. What is so wrong with engaging, disagreeing, debating, and most importantly listening to other perspectives hoping to at least gain understanding?
Good podcast and thanks for sharing. It did change my opinion of Don Jr. a bit.
Agree with Jaq on RMEF. They do more positive to maintain and improve access to public lands than BHA ever thought of doing.
I listened to it. Don Jr sounds about like all my circle of hunting buddies with his take on issues. A friend attended a dinner with him and came away with the same view. His take on the mustache wax and IPA hunting crowd is spot on. I can't imagine anyone who employs some critical thinking would come away with a view thats much different. I also agree with his point that although they are who they are, its not a bad thing that they are part of the hunting community, its just a bad thing that what people see isn't what they get. He dove in based on the message but like anyone who is awake and has some situational awareness, he saw that the shiny paint job didn't match what was underneath it.
^^^^ absolutely this for me, too.
Awesome podcast for sure. Had the privilege to spend some time with Don Jr. at the last Pope and Young. Really enjoyed just hanging out and BSing hunting.
I haven't had time to listen to the podcast yet, but I can say that BHA New Mexico is a big net positive. Long story, but we don't currently have a state bowhunting organization (we've tried), and BHA is the primary voice/organization fighting for public hunters in this state. They may not be perfect, but it's a lot better than letting money (Outfitters and agriculture) be the only voice in the room. BHA actually has an open lawsuit against the state to keep streambeds public.
I'll give it a listen. I support both RMEF and BHA for now. They both have done great things and hopefully neither will become beholden to the political cult crowd anytime soon.
I align with BHA on some issues but even though hunting is a huge part of my life, the direction of the country is a bigger issue. A candidate or appointee who may benefit hunting or access issues but gets about everything else wrong isn't someone I want to support. Same goes for groups supporting them.
I have supported BHA in the past but have dropped them due to their:
1. Lack of support for sportsmen on important issues like introducing non-native wolves in Colorado
2. Support of political positions and land usage that will further limit use of our public lands (particularly for hunting)
3. Twisting of multiple-use of public lands by commercial interests to make it sound like those lands are being “sold” when they are being leased (big difference!!)
4. Lack of support for any positive gains for access for hunting and fishing by a Republican President (who, by the way, pushed for and provided the biggest gains for sportsmen since Teddy Roosevelt!)
5. Lack of reporting or censorship of any lost access/sale/transfer of public lands under Democratic Administrations.
6. Monetary support of only Democratic (Socialist) politicians.
My support is better provided elsewhere…

Treeline- do you have any specific examples/links/evidence for the things you allege? If not remember right, BHA came out against the CO wolf reintroduction and the have supported many Republican candidates?
KS - they refused to make any statement regarding wolf introduction when it mattered - prior to the ballot initiative getting enough signatures or during the lead up to the vote. That statement is “post-mortim”.
What Republican have they supported?
They certainly have been gungho in their support of all of the new National Monuments and expansion of National Parks that slam the door in hunter’s faces. I believe that was all under the Big “0”….
They were absolutely giddy about O’Biden’s appointment for the DOI who has a history of pushing to close public lands down.
What have they done to help provide more access?
Not worth your time responding to KS, we all know he's a liberal in sheep's clothing. Just like BHA.
It was a great conversation and well worth an hour of your time. We must keep talking about this since so many in our ranks refuse to believe that the left, their judges and those that they support will end hunting if given a chance. I don't understand how anyone, let alone hunters can support them.
Me either. But, otherwise intelligent people do stupid things outside the ranks of hunting and fishing too. It just stings a lot more when it happens from within.
Who me smarba? LMAO. I’m flaming…
I've all but quit listening to podcasts, same sh*t over and over again it seems... But I did make an exception to listen to this one. It wasn't too bad!
I'm only half way through it but it feels like they are going to disclose the fact that BHA stormed the capitol building on Jan 6 at some point soon.

green decoys, perfect match for some here
KS,
"BHA came out against the CO wolf reintroduction..."
Can you post a link? The only thing I saw was an email in repsonse to a letter asking their position. The repsonse was ambiguous at best and amounted to swimming in both ends of the pool.
BTW - nothing in that statement that KS posted was in any way against the introduction of wolves in Colorado.
damm crickets are deafening....or is it cicadas¿
Bha kicked me off their Colorado Facebook page, it was to hard to control the narrative of my facts compared to their agenda.
Just like was stated in the podcast, no one other then facebook does fact checking, everyone swallows the spoon feed.
Fun watching the sheep piling onto an ad-hominem 'argument'.
Also interesting to see a horse’s ass commenting on the “so called” sheep’s behavior…
T-roy, thanks for proving my point. x6, x7, x8... snore...
It takes a lot of effort to illicit that kind of response from t-roy. Good job Dana.
Liberals hunters don't really care if hunting is banned, they can still send pictures of the sunrise to their boyfriends without it.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Brotsky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you blame us? It’s a beautiful sunset and who wants to share it alone.
Something tells me flatbrimmer is into S&M with his boyfriend. He seems to get gratification from receiving pain at least he keeps coming back for more.
Come on lockeroom boys…smarba X7, X8, X9
By the way John, why do you always go there? Always with the gay stuff. Don’t forget to delete your web browser history. Did you even listen to the podcast?
I’ve likely spent more time in the woods than any of you.
Hunters are so easy to fool. Many even voted for Kamala, just as HSUS, PETA and the ASPCA did. How stupid can they be?
"It's not a crime to be rich"
No, not at all. But how they got rich is a crime that's for sure!
Why the hatred for hard work, success and wealth?
Sorry boys, I forgot the “Not that’s there’s anything wrong with that.”
It's not a crime to be rich"
"No, not at all. But how they got rich is a crime that's for sure!"
Hunter Biden just read this post and blew coke out his nose...
Hey! Save some for the Big Guy!
And right before ETAR a thread about anti hunting GOPers shows up on the Leatherwall lol
For as helpful as this site can be, I forget how retarded it gets from time to time
“No, not at all. But how they got rich is a crime that's for sure!“
Lmao!!!
