After days of scouting, I located this monster cape buffalo bull amongst a large herd.

The following morning at daybreak, I went out alone to try and find him while one of our PHs and client checked tracks at another location. At around 8:30 I located three bulls that had separated from the herd and the Goliath was one of them. Calling my PH in, he got on the stalk and at 50 yards, banged the beast…48” of horn makes this the best we’ve taken this season so far.

The Goliath was taken with a simple .375. The last one with a Heym 450/400 double at about 20 yards on day 10 of a ten day hunt.

All great bulls, but I’d kill that 18” boss buff all day long If given a choice of these three.

What is your recommendation for archery gear? Minimum requirements? I know a lot have to be finished off with a rifle...

Thanks for the info.
Are those rules government? South Africa? I know modern compounds can get 80 ft/lbs with 70# draw weight (30” draw) would that legal?
From: Bou'bound

Unless 70 US pounds converts to 80 RSA pounds that does not seem to meet the draw weight requirement
From: LINK

My 75# bow is putting out 86 ft-pounds with a 563 grain arrow abd 27.5@ DL and I’m sure there are plenty of long draw archery’s hitting 80 ft-pounds at 70# draw.

The above regulations are not enforced. They are a bit outdated as a modern 70 pound compound bow is totally capable of cleanly killing a buffalo provided the arrow is of 750 gr or better and a high quality buffalo broadhead such as an Ironwill buff head is utilized. Consult with the company you intend to hunt with and if they’ve hunted enough buffalo, they should be able to provide you with proper information based upon your draw length and current equipment configuration…A few guys successfully kill buffalo with trad bows but it’s unlikely these bows meet the above “legal” criteria as listed even though they are lethally capable.

I killed mine with Ken using a Mathews Vertix at 75# 1028 grain total arrow BH weight. FMJ 250s 150 grains of brass inserts, and Iron will Buff 250 BH
The arrow flying and impacting perfectly straight is important too. So you don’t give up some momentum and penetration to poor flight
