we have had success every week over the years but i prefer the last ten days because it tends to be cooler and a lot of other factors that must be kept secret.

I like it the first week before they are all pushed into the nastiest spots you can find.

Each week has positives and negatives that usually ends up averaging out.

Hotter and elk closer to popular access the first week.

Cooler and more vocal the last week but have had 3 weeks of pressure.

All depends upon where you're hunting.

Last year's bull, Sept 17, (missed on on Sept 3) the year before killed on Sept 4. I like the early part of the season prior to the ML season as I hunt over a wallow (s) early on. Later, mid Sept when the bull may be more rut active, I will get more aggressive and move around and call more. Being retired, I can hunt all 29 days. Every day of the elk season is a blessing.
