I think it’s both ridiculous and telling that Biden calls on a preselected list of reporters during his so called “press conference”. I wonder if these questions have been pre-approved by his staff and submitted to him beforehand.

Sounds like he's expecting Russia to invade Ukraine and mol gave Putin defacto permission by acknowledging it.Agreed Ukraine was "decades" from being allowed in NATO or placing missiles there (Putin's excuses for invasion)

19-Jan-22
The guy is a lying politician. That’s what they do. That’s who they are. And, it’s what’s required to live that role versus an American citizen down in the ditch that the lying politicians have dug for us.

I know that sounds simplistic. But, it’s the truth. While there are a few that resemble the life and, practices they preach, there are far more willingly and knowingly lying about everything they speak of. From policy to occurrences. It doesn’t matter.

I hold no grudges. I also understand there will always be those that prosper while a vast majority works a lifetime to finally acquire sone form of monetary security. However, anytime you have a group of people in power living a certain way, due to government enforced policy, making the rules for everyone, you are going to see a separation in mind and, in lifestyle.

That’s what we’ve got. That’s what we’ve had. And, it isn’t going to change until every American takes their voting responsibility seriously. And, starts putting on their goggles to see the cause and affect results caused by governing policy.

Until then, we will have the two party puking disaster we have as government. Where the dogs themselves pick the candidates that represent both sides. Versus offering up the best candidate to equally, lawfully, and morally represent this republic.

I think of most politicians as scum. I may have to live with them. But, I certainly don’t intend to marry along giving a single one an ounce of respect until they earn it. And, so far that respect list is very small. And, not looking to grow. It’s human nature. Screw everyone as long as I get mine. Republican and Democrat lifetime politicians alike could attest to that. None are a friend of the American people. That’s a fact. Based solely on the guarantee that our problems are pretty simple to fix. Yet, they never get fixed. There’s only one way that happens.

I’ve made huge money in a years time. I’ve also made what McDonald’s workers make at times. The one thing I know for certain is that $170,000 a year does not produced the $20-30 million dollar net worths that a lot of storied politicians can claim.

When the questions went to random, answers were short and blown off.

I predicted when he won that during his term there would be another country taking advantage of his weakness. He calls it gaining back the respect of our “European partners”. And every thug around the globe calls it weakness.

So here we go again. And oh by the way. He would love to have us embroiled in another military debacle. The media would of course switch to covering Jan 9th AND how Biden saved the world.

Wag the Dog

we would be back in another military action.

Amazing how Joe talked about everything except what's most important. The economy, gasoline prices and out of control crime in major cities and not one reporter asked a question of any substance. More people have died from Covid under Biden than trump and yet the press just lets that go by. Also, have you all noticed how polite the press got when Biden took office? No follow ups to the follow ups to the follow ups, and they sit quietly like good boys and girls until called from the list. What a JOKE! I missed the speech. What did he say about the thousands of immigrants and criminals flooding the border? What was it last month.....many cartel folks, N African terrorists and murders caught along with enough Fentanyl to kill everyone in the US?

Did he explain why he is doing night time flights and bussing these illegals all over the country?

Did he say why they haven't done anything about the infrastructure bill that the Reps put in to streamline the permit process? Its dead in the water waiting....

Did he say what he was going to do about Crime endangering working class Americans that is up as much as 200%, Murder too, all due to permissive Democrat policy?

Did he say why he has the FBI concentrating on PTA members instead of the massive crime and problems we are having in the US?

>

Let me guess; He dismissed all of that. Biden said he is crushing it for the US....and he blamed all of the bad stuff on Trump- got to get that in there- or something else.

From: Ben

Did he mention how he transferred over $680,000,000 for fighting Covid to be used on the border to help with the added cost of processing , housing and flying (to the city of their choice) illegals crossing our southern border ? It left no money for acquiring the Covid test kits, so now the gov. is transfer kits from areas of the country where there is a surplus to make it look like he has bought some.

Its really just sad. Makes me sick to my stomach, literally. I dont like to follow the news at all because it just feels hopeless. Me? I can survive in just about any kind of world i feel like, but its my little girls’ and their childrens’ futures that im sad for.

The stuff today that is not only completely acceptable, but its to the point that its UNACCEPTABLE for you to say any different is just sickening. Same sex marriage….boys that think they are girls and girls that think they are boys….cops need to not just fear for their lives but they have to fear for whether during an altercation they are at a reasonable line to fear for their lives enough to protect themselves by any means necessary….you can work your whole life to build a business and make a living and people can completely wreck it in the name of something that exists but not near to the proportion its blown up to be-and it doesnt do anything to actually solve any problem…you dont have to work for the things you get….u cant trust ANY media report you read about anything, anywhere….could go on for an hour

Ugh. Its disheartening to think about how much worse its going to be for my children and their children and generations further on. People wanna argue that their guy is THE guy. Guess what, everybody has their stuff. Yeah, Biden is a blubbering joke. He isnt fit to be president. He doesnt know what hes saying at times. That is dangerous. But Trump cant keep his trap shut at times when things dont need to be said. Someone should have taken all his social media away, i believe that in itself woulda been enough to keep him in there. But he just pisses people off and just like with hunting topics, the other side aint who you gotta worry about. Its the people on the fence. DONT PUSH THEM OFF THE FENCE THE OTHER WAY. People voted for Biden just because they couldnt vote for Trump.

Election rigged? Who the hell cares, its over….Biden is the president… Look at the damage done so far and it aint over. We better find a way to move on and get the fence-sitters to the right side and let some of the people who moved to the left come back to the right because they see what kind of joke this is.

There isnt a candidate that doesnt have something wrong with em….only one person ever walked this earth and was perfect doing it. One. And its sad to see how many people have turned away from Him and completely disregard His word. Its why we are here today….and there are a lot of people that think they got this life down here figured out. Well, enjoy it, cuz thats gonna be all you get unless you recognize…. We get to make choices, but those choices have rewards or consequences.

I pray for this country and this world…

IMO....where a future battle will lie is within the neo-Dem party and who they actually want to run for Prez/VP in 2024. The anti-Biden/Harris winds are already festering in the left-wing media....they do not want Biden and Harris anywhere near the White House in 2024. I believe in the future we'll see the cracks in the party when one of the left-wing media outlets or a prominent Libs/Socialists goes public and supports someone other than a 2024 Biden/Harris ticket. Then the real fireworks start.

Newf,

I agree, Biden is the worst president of my lifetime, too. But, IMO, a lame duck Blue team administration, with an incompetent president, is the best thing that could have happened for the Red team. I see the tide shifting every day. Once staunch Biden supporters that I know suddenly avoid political conversations, because they know they can't defend their choice. Independents are increasingly speaking out against Biden, and are suddenly more appreciative of the job Trump did, despite his personal faults.

I think November will bring a whole new ray of hope for the hand-wringers, and 2024 should bring happiness back to their lives. At least I hope so.

President can make speeches and twist arms, but the Pelosi/Schumer/Mcconels of the world that need to go. Term limits would be a start, career politicians that have worked for decades can't fix the problem, they are the root of the problem

While seemingly fair it's not. Fillibuster was not defeated by 2 D holdouts, it was defeated by 52 senators. And D's didn't fail to pass. A bill failed to pass via democracy

Term limits would be GREAT... except corrupt career politicians are NEVER going to vote to limit their own power.

Unless you can find an outsider willing to fight the establishment. Someone who will do everything in their power to secure the border. Someone who can take all of the leaks and threats the deep state will throw at them, and give it right back. Someone not afraid to stand up to China. Someone who doesn't give a f'ck about spending trillions to stop the sun from being warm, and who will instead make us energy independent again!

This thread is rampant with the sadness and hopelessness that many Americans are experiencing. However, voicing despair, is something of a personal venting and of little value in making an effective change in the situation.

Not the big "O" hope and change, but another, can be found in America today. The Convention of States Project is following the forefathers prescription for dealing with a tyrannical Federal government. Article V of the Constitution as first written was flawed. When George Mason interrupted the plans to sign the Constitution, he asked them if they were so naive as to believe that a tyrannical government that has taken power from the people would be virtuous enough to reverse themselves and restore it back to the people. The whole assembly of delegates were dumbstruck when it was put to them that way, that they had forgotten a means for the people to correct the government when it had gone bad. Eventually statesman Elbridge Gerry put forward a motion that wording of Article V be changed to include a means for the people to initiate a convention of the states for the purpose of amending the Constitution.

Americans in our present situation were foreseen by the founders and the means to set the matters right again were spelled out in Article V. There are five million supporters from all fifty states that have and are doing something to save their country.

If you REALLY want to DO something to restore America to the greatness intended in the beginning, the LEAST YOU CAN DO, is sign the petition at, https://conventionofstates.com/

You can also take more actions that will first of all educate you and hopefully inspire you to become a volunteer activist in the movement. If you go to the website, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on COS University and watch the videos there.

I would love a principled, moral, honest, respectable President. Who wouldn't? I won't hold my breath.

Any candidate with the right policy approach will face massive opposition from both party's establishment, most of the media and big tech.

Not easy to find someone who can effectively beat all that and keep their halo intact.

So, as usual, the likely choices will both be pretty flawed. That eliminates the option to elect an Eagle Scout, so my next best option is a candidate that is the closest to correct on policy with the ability to win. I wish it were different but it simply isn't and likely won't be any time soon.

Oil and gas prices are a function of increased demand coming off the pandemic coupled with a tighter supply coming off of the price crash in 2015 and continued capital discipline by the majority of producers who are afraid to get burned by another price crash going forward. This has nothing to do with Biden. Furthermore, the oil that would have been supplied by the Keystone pipeline is just being substituted by rail. It has had effectively no change to the supply.

As far as broader inflation, that is a function of a number of things - monetary policy (going back years), pent up demand from the pandemic, global supply chain issues related to the pandemic - that are all much bigger than the man sitting in the Oval Office. The flipside to the inflation equation is that labor is strong, wages are higher, and asset prices are up (again, little to nothing to do with Biden) so stop painting it as all doom and gloom.

The biggest challenge to democracy was the post-election hijinks from team Trump, Trump raised the national debt more in every year he was in office than Biden did in his first year, and the voices around climate change and the actions surrounding them (eg, the broader energy transition) have been around far longer than Biden being in office.

I reckon policy that reduces supply could be blamed as a cause under that explanation. That seems plausible. To anyone who isn’t content to argue.

I like a surplus of oil. So, I’m in favor of policy that is favorable for more opportunity to drill it. That helps all consumers. In a way that I truly don’t think can be measured.

I also think it’s funny how so many people babble about higher fuel means a growing economy. A good amount of those same people suggested cheaper fuel under Trump, was a sign of a weak economy.

70lbs. My apologies. Sarcasm can be hard to discern in writing. Big Easy don't you think going from energy independence to dependence has something to do with oil prices and translates into higher transportation costs that translate into higher consumer prices? How about workers who get paid more by the gov't to stay home and out of the work force? That translates into higher wages to incentivize folks to work, and those costs are eventually passed on to the consumer. And, lack of workers and transportation folks impacts the supply shortage. And what does this statement mean? "Oil and gas prices are a function of increased demand coming off the pandemic coupled with a tighter supply coming off of the price crash in 2015 and continued capital discipline by the majority of producers who are afraid to get burned by another price crash going forward." I reckon policy that reduces supply could be blamed as a cause under that explanation

Policy matters, but it certainly isn't the end all, be all. Go look at rig counts and oil production. I can guarantee you that supply is most certainly not being curtailed by any new policy at the moment.

I like a surplus of oil. So, I’m in favor of policy that is favorable for more opportunity to drill it. That helps all consumers. In a way that I truly don’t think can be measured.

Good story. We had that in 2015. It's a big reason we're in the current supply situation we're in right now. Producers aren't just going to live with excess supply and low prices. Furthermore, we could open up every single plot of land for production right now if we wanted...doesn't mean there are the capital or the resources to go exploit it. They are not infinite.

I also think it’s funny how so many people babble about higher fuel means a growing economy.

It often is.

A good amount of those same people suggested cheaper fuel under Trump, was a sign of a weak economy.

They started low when he took office, thanks to the aforementioned oversupply issues and a cooling economy. The economy stayed rather cool under Trump. The stock market did well at times, but the stock market is not "the economy." GDP growth averaged 1% over his four years in office.

From: bigeasygator
20-Jan-22
And what does this statement mean?

It means that oil companies are not spending the money that they did in years past to push supply higher. One just has to look at CAPEX spending across the sector, rig counts, and overall production to show that the E&P companies are taking a measured response to the rebound in oil price.

The point was specifically how has your life and the life around you changed in a year? To put a finer point on it...beyond your reaction to it, WW, how has the Afghanistan troop withdrawal impacted you? My opinion, despite disagreeing with the decision, is that I have felt or noticed zero tangible impacts in my daily life as a result our troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. Victor Davis Hanson Article well worth the read;

January 19, 2022 Updated: January 20, 2022 In modern times, as in ancient Rome, several nations have suffered a “systems collapse.” The term describes the sudden inability of once-prosperous populations to continue with what had ensured the good life as they knew it. Abruptly, the population cannot buy, or even find, once plentiful necessities. They feel their streets are unsafe. Laws go unenforced or are enforced inequitably. Every day things stop working. The government turns from reliable to capricious if not hostile. Consider contemporary Venezuela. By 2010, the once well-off oil-exporting country was mired in a self-created mess. Food became scarce, crime ubiquitous. Radical socialism, nationalization, corruption, jailing opponents, and the destruction of constitutional norms were the culprits. Between 2009 and 2016, a once relatively stable Greece nearly became a Third World country. So did Great Britain in its socialist days of the 1970s. Joe Biden’s young presidency may already be leading the United States into a similar meltdown. Hard Left “woke” ideology has all but obliterated the idea of a border. Millions of impoverished foreigners are entering the United States illegally—and during a pandemic without either COVID-19 tests or vaccinations. The health bureaucracies have lost credibility as official communiques on masks, herd and acquired immunity, vaccinations, and comorbidities apparently change and adjust to perceived political realities. After decades of improving race relations, America is regressing into a pre-modern tribal society. Crime soars. Inflation roars. Meritocracy is libeled and so we are governed more by ideology and tribe. The soaring prices of the stuff of life—fuel, food, housing, health care, transportation—are strangling the middle class. Millions stay home, content to be paid by the state not to work. Supply shortages and empty shelves are the new norm. Nineteenth-century-style train robberies are back. So is 1970s urban violence, replete with looting, carjackings, and random murdering of the innocent. After the Afghanistan debacle, we have returned to the dark days following defeat in Vietnam, when U.S. deterrence abroad was likewise shattered, and global terrorism and instability were the norms abroad. Who could have believed a year ago that America would now beg Saudi Arabia and Russia to pump more oil—as we pulled our own oil leases, and canceled pipelines and oil fields? Our path to systems collapse is not due to an earthquake, climate change, a nuclear war, or even the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, most of our maladies are self-inflicted. They are the direct result of woke ideologies that are both cruel and antithetical to traditional American pragmatism. Hard-Left district attorneys in our major cities refuse to charge thousands of arrested criminals—relying instead on bankrupt social justice theories. Law enforcement has been arbitrarily defunded and libeled. Police deterrence is lost, so looters, vandals, thieves, and murderers more freely prey on the public. “Modern monetary theory” deludes ideologues that printing trillions of dollars can enrich the public, even as the ensuing inflation is making people poorer. “Critical race theory” absurdly dictates that current “good” racism can correct the effects of past bad racism. A once tolerant, multiracial nation is resembling the factionalism of the former Yugoslavia. The culprit again is a callous woke ideology that posits little value for individuals, prioritizing only the so-called collective agenda. Woke’s trademark is “equity,” or a forced equality of result. Practically, we are becoming a comic-book version of victims and victimizers, with woke opportunists playacting as our superheroes. Strangest in 2021 was the systematic attack on our ancient institutions, as we scapegoated our ancestors for our own incompetencies. The woke have waged a veritable war against the 233-year-old Electoral College and the right of states to set their own balloting laws in national elections, the 180-year-old filibuster, the 150-year-old nine-person Supreme Court, and the 60-year-old, 50-state union. The U.S. military, Department of Justice, FBI, CIA, Center for Disease Control, and National Institutes of Health until recently were revered. Their top echelons were staffed by career professionals mostly immune to the politics of the day. Not now. These bureaus and agencies are losing public confidence and support. Citizens fear rather than respect Washington grandees who have weaponized politics ahead of public service. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, Attorney General Merrick Garland, former FBI heads like James Comey and Andrew McCabe, retired CIA director John Brennan, and Anthony Fauci head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases—have all politicalized and vastly exceeded their professional purviews. They sounded off in public fora as if they were elected legislators up for reelection. Some lied under oath. Others demonized critics. Most sought to become media darlings. This governmental freefall is overseen by a tragically bewildered, petulant, and incompetent president. In his confusion, an increasingly unpopular President Joe Biden seems to believe his divisive chaos is working, belittling his political opponents as racist Confederate rebels. As we head into the 2022 midterm elections, who will stop our descent into collective poverty, division, and self-inflicted madness? Views expressed in this article are the opinions of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

BEG, we were energy independent under Trump. When he left office the US wasn’t buying foreign oil.

Biden cut off 40 % of what the US was producing, the demand did not slow down, we turned to OPEC, they immediately cut production causing a artificial shortage. Again, demand did not decrease, supply was limited, price goes up. It has nothing to do with Covid or 2015.

This is no surprise at all, Biden said, during debates, he would do exactly what we are seeing.

Biden cut off 40 % of what the US was producing

No he didn’t. When Trump left office we were producing 11 million barrels of oil per day. Today we are producing 11.7 million barrels of oil per day.

Again, demand did not decrease

Also false. In Trump’s last full year in office, we consumed 6.6 billion barrels of petroleum. This was a drop of a billion barrels from 2019 and represented the lowest oil consumption since 1995.

When Trump left office the US wasn’t buying foreign oil

False again. In 2020, we imported roughly 8 million barrels of oil per day. We happened to export 8.5 million so we were a net exporter. Through the first half of 2021, we were still a net exporter.

I encourage you to actually research the points you’re making next time.

Big Easy, doesn't it make sense that US companies would spend less when Biden signed EOs that curtailed a lot of US oil production

Biden signed executive orders that were largely for show covering a fraction of the basins we develop oil and gas from. The largest at risk area is our offshore federal leases - we are still getting permits, we are still acquiring new leases, and we have a decade long backlog of work that’s unaffected by the EOs Biden signed. In short, Biden’s actions have had essentially no effect on activities and are also easily undone by the next Republican President.

People lost jobs in the energy field and operations were shut down or idled

The industry hit a low point of employment around September 2020 while Trump was still in office. Since then, the industry has been adding jobs.

Right now Opec and the Russians have the supply side and control the price just like the days of old

We still have plenty of pricing power here in the USA and we are still a net exporter of crude oil and natural gas. Europe - which has been far more aggressive in their energy transition and relies much more on Russia and OPEC - is far more exposed.

If we're buying our oil from these guys, why would you think there is a nexus between how much US companies are now spending and the available US supply or cost to the consumer?

On net, we aren’t buying oil from foreign sources. There is a nexus because companies can deliver the same returns and profits by spending far less cash, and so they’re staying the course and insulating themselves from a future price correction. At some point, prices may get high enough that they’ll move more money into developing more marginal reserves, but right now they aren’t too incentivized to.

The jobs of which you speak were from the increase in exploration and new wells brought online. That was under Trump's watch, rebounding from obama.

There is certainly some lag in exploration to production. With that said, the industry essentially shed jobs more or less the entire time Trump was in office. The above charts show oil industry jobs over time, with the two dots representing the beginning and end of Trump’s presidency.

Trump was very friendly to oil and gas companies, but that doesn’t change the broader market forces. We were oversupplied (which occurred during Obama’s presidency) and then hit with multiple shocks (trade wars, pandemics, etc) that kept demand low. The industry is nowhere near the levels we were at pre-2015 and the rig activity and capital spend has remained, and will remain, more or less suppressed. There’s little Obama, Trump, or Biden have done to alter this equation.

Big easy, I am not refuting your oil consumption facts. But be careful relying on Statista for facts.

“ the source is not actually Statista — Statista didn’t do the research. , it is just an aggregator. Somebody else did the study. If we want to judge the credibility, we need to know who conducted the research, when, and how. who conducted it? Unless you are a paying subscriber of Statista, if you click on “Show sources information,” you hit a paywall that displays this message: and they know most won’t pay the $480 to see who did the research. What they want is that when you do a search their “facts” pop up the way they want you to see them. they want them free and easy to feed so they are driving the message. Again I don’t know if those stats are true but I do know that there are entities behind these search engines and “research companies” pushing facts out.

Statista usually just pulls its information from Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and other Google searches and they also survey people and then call those facts.

When you profit off high oil/energy prices..... high prices look good to you.

Those who don't, the vast majority of the population.... high energy prices suck. They literally impact everything. EVERYTHING. But yes... lets ignore any way WRT policy to address it. Instead they have done everything politically possible to "Necessarily skyrocket" energy prices. (Obama/Biden quote) Well, but for Russian pipelines... those are apparently good.... they support those..... Hunter must be somewhere saving 10% for the Big Guy.

All depends (no, not President House Plant depends.....) within which game your skin resides....

But the biggest suck is this administration, be it simply incompetence on a grand scale and at every front.... or done so to facilitate the decline of US and it's citizens in favor of Globalist Corporations and Globalists who have been bought and paid for by those corporations and moving on with the "Great Reset". One could be explained as simply stupid, but I have a hard time thinking anyone is THAT stupid, makes no sense. The other evil. And for that there will be a reckoning soon enough. Torches are being fueled.... pitchforks sharpened....

All starting very soon with the primaries.... when the Liz Cheney-like fat RINO's azzes bounce twice on the sidewalk before they hit the street. Getting rid of entrenched system rino-cons and getting take no prisoners populists in that work for the benefit of the citizens and the country is critical. America first.... then the wave starts stacking......

"It seems a bit “elitist” to presume that the majority of people being hit the hardest at the pumps have the disposable income to maintain an investment portfolio. Just my opinion."

And I agree. That's why I didn't make that presumption.

I just find it funny that guys, who spend thousands of $$ on new hunting equipment and expensive hunts every year, complain about paying a little more at the pump. If they'd invested a small fraction of their hunting expenses last year, they would have made plenty of gains to offset the current inflation. That's all.

And, yes, I realize that many people don't have disposable income, and they are hit hardest by inflation. But, I don't think that applies to many Bowsiters. At least I hope not.

Shawn (DG),

If investments gain more than the rate of inflation, then the investor has successfully offset the inflation. In my example above, a $2K investment in an energy ETF would have realized around $1200 in gains last year (60%). For most drivers with the ability to save a little money, those gains would have more than offset the increase they paid at the pump. Not sure why that's so difficult for you to understand.

Let's take the broader S&P market as another example. It rose 28% in 2021, while inflation rose 7% over the same time frame. So, let's say you had $100K invested in a S&P indexed ETF, you would have gained $28K last year. Now, let's say $100K of your expenses inflated 7% last year, so you paid $7K more for those goods and services. Did your investments offset the inflation?

maybe...depends on amount of investment vs amount of spending.

"I guess that this may be why you think that the democratic policies are so great."

Rocky, please don't put words in my mouth. I have NEVER said I support Dem policies. I just think financial literacy is one of the great failings of our education systems. Shawn's posts are an example of that.

My wife and I started investing in our retirement accounts when we were both making around $30-40K per year. We certainly couldn't afford to invest much back then, but we always found a way to stash a little out of each paycheck. Albert Einstein once said "compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world", and he was right.

The "rule of 70" was a concept that struck home for me at an early age. It's a mathematical equation that demonstrates exponential growth. In finances you can use it to estimate the doubling time of an investment. You simply divide 70 by the estimated annual rate of return. Historically, the stock markets have averaged around a 10% return. So, every 7 years your investment will double. In real numbers, a $10K investment will be worth $20K in 7 years, $40K in 14 years, $80K in 21 years, and so on. It really doesn't take much money to grow a nice egg nest over the course of time, if you have a little foresight and financial discipline.

"GG, help me out for a minute. By offset you mean gained more than you lost but did you not lose $7K due to inflation. Could you count on the market doing 28%?"

With the feds printing money, and no indications of them slowing it down in 2021, it was a fairly easy bet that the markets would do well. 2022 is shaping up to be a different story, but I bet we still see 6-8% returns from the stock markets by the end of the year.

Look, I'm not sure why you feel the need to point out that 1/3 of Americans don't have disposable incomes to invest. I thought that has been common knowledge for decades, and it will be true for decades to come.

I don't think that pointing out that many middle income Americans could do a better job of saving and investing shows a lack of humility. I'm constantly shocked by the number of people I meet in their prime earning years who don't have a clue about investing in their retirements. I guess that bodes well for financial advisors...

Getting ready for retirement isn't about politics it's about using a little common sense. If your not getting yourself set up in your 30's for your retirement than shame on you. I don't know where that 28% figure came from but I sure in He// didn't earn 28% from my investments. : )

Don't blame politics or inflation for not setting yourself up. When your in your 50's is a little late but it's still better than not saving any money at all. My son works for a Gas supplier and if he invest a % of his pay the company matches it. He maxed out the % they let him invest. That with his IRA he's putting away close to 15% of his pay for retirement. He's got ten years in and already he's got a pretty nice sum built up.

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." 1Timothy 6:6-10

Rocky,

Teenagers are actively investing in stocks these days. According to Bloomberg, retail trades accounted for 23% of all US equity trading last year. I'm not advocating for people to become day traders, since most will lose money. But, investing opportunities do exist for anyone with some savings built up, and they can do it with relatively low risk.

Rocky, I think it's just a natural fear of the unknown for many, especially folks of our generation. For most of our lives we've been ingrained to think that investing is some sort of black magic that only trained professionals can do for us. I don't know about you, but none of my education ever included the basics of investing...and the information wasn't readily available, nor was the means to do it. Now, the information is everywhere, and you can literally download a free broker app, create and deposit funds into an account, and be trading stocks in 1-2 days....using nothing but your smart phone. Kids are teaching their parents how to do it, which I think is a good thing in the long run.

Matt. Do you think the 6-8% return from current market or 6-8% from the highs put in around a month ago. That amount of gain from now would over the next year would put us flat. I am hoping for that amount of gain from the highs about a month ago. But it's fine either way, I will throw in all I can along the way. I am about done buying individual stocks. Rocky, you make a valid point. Normally the optics would make an administration think twice. When everything a president is measured on is spiraling down in a ball of flames. They are praying for LESS catastrophic optics they currently have.

He and his sidekicks the liberal media, would love something else to focus on.

In the back of the POS politicians minds they are weighing the pros and cons now.

To them Low life military lives don’t matter in the big scheme of things and neither do all the other concerns. What matters is them holding power and getting re elected. It’s been going on since Korea. Hell even in World War II the politicians tied Patton in MacArthur‘s hands behind their backs. Because of optics and politics, not military strategy or the nations interests.

Patton said let’s take care of Russia now or will we dealing with them later and MacArthur said let’s deal with China now or will be dealing with them in the Future and look where we are now from greasy politicians looking out for their own interests. Instead of the nations.

I see nothing to convince me they won’t do it again.
