However, anytime you have a group of people in power living a certain way, due to government enforced policy, making the rules for everyone, you are going to see a separation in mind and, in lifestyle.
That’s what we’ve got. That’s what we’ve had. And, it isn’t going to change until every American takes their voting responsibility seriously. And, starts putting on their goggles to see the cause and affect results caused by governing policy.
Until then, we will have the two party puking disaster we have as government. Where the dogs themselves pick the candidates that represent both sides. Versus offering up the best candidate to equally, lawfully, and morally represent this republic.

I agree, Biden is the worst president of my lifetime, too. But, IMO, a lame duck Blue team administration, with an incompetent president, is the best thing that could have happened for the Red team. I see the tide shifting every day. Once staunch Biden supporters that I know suddenly avoid political conversations, because they know they can't defend their choice. Independents are increasingly speaking out against Biden, and are suddenly more appreciative of the job Trump did, despite his personal faults.
I think November will bring a whole new ray of hope for the hand-wringers, and 2024 should bring happiness back to their lives. At least I hope so.

The Convention of States Project is following the forefathers prescription for dealing with a tyrannical Federal government. Article V of the Constitution as first written was flawed. When George Mason interrupted the plans to sign the Constitution, he asked them if they were so naive as to believe that a tyrannical government that has taken power from the people would be virtuous enough to reverse themselves and restore it back to the people. The whole assembly of delegates were dumbstruck when it was put to them that way, that they had forgotten a means for the people to correct the government when it had gone bad. Eventually statesman Elbridge Gerry put forward a motion that wording of Article V be changed to include a means for the people to initiate a convention of the states for the purpose of amending the Constitution.
Americans in our present situation were foreseen by the founders and the means to set the matters right again were spelled out in Article V. There are five million supporters from all fifty states that have and are doing something to save their country.

Any candidate with the right policy approach will face massive opposition from both party's establishment, most of the media and big tech.

So, as usual, the likely choices will both be pretty flawed. That eliminates the option to elect an Eagle Scout, so my next best option is a candidate that is the closest to correct on policy with the ability to win. I wish it were different but it simply isn't and likely won't be any time soon.

Oil and gas prices are a function of increased demand coming off the pandemic coupled with a tighter supply coming off of the price crash in 2015 and continued capital discipline by the majority of producers who are afraid to get burned by another price crash going forward. This has nothing to do with Biden. Furthermore, the oil that would have been supplied by the Keystone pipeline is just being substituted by rail. It has had effectively no change to the supply.
As far as broader inflation, that is a function of a number of things - monetary policy (going back years), pent up demand from the pandemic, global supply chain issues related to the pandemic - that are all much bigger than the man sitting in the Oval Office. The flipside to the inflation equation is that labor is strong, wages are higher, and asset prices are up (again, little to nothing to do with Biden) so stop painting it as all doom and gloom.
Now that statement makes more sense.
The biggest challenge to democracy was the post-election hijinks from team Trump, Trump raised the national debt more in every year he was in office than Biden did in his first year, and the voices around climate change and the actions surrounding them (eg, the broader energy transition) have been around far longer than Biden being in office.

Good story. We had that in 2015. It's a big reason we're in the current supply situation we're in right now. Producers aren't just going to live with excess supply and low prices. Furthermore, we could open up every single plot of land for production right now if we wanted...doesn't mean there are the capital or the resources to go exploit it. They are not infinite.

They started low when he took office, thanks to the aforementioned oversupply issues and a cooling economy. The economy stayed rather cool under Trump. The stock market did well at times, but the stock market is not "the economy." GDP growth averaged 1% over his four years in office.
It means that oil companies are not spending the money that they did in years past to push supply higher. One just has to look at CAPEX spending across the sector, rig counts, and overall production to show that the E&P companies are taking a measured response to the rebound in oil price.
Tell that to the families of the American servicemen killed in Biden's Afghan cl********k.

False again. In 2020, we imported roughly 8 million barrels of oil per day. We happened to export 8.5 million so we were a net exporter. Through the first half of 2021, we were still a net exporter.

Biden signed executive orders that were largely for show covering a fraction of the basins we develop oil and gas from. The largest at risk area is our offshore federal leases - we are still getting permits, we are still acquiring new leases, and we have a decade long backlog of work that’s unaffected by the EOs Biden signed. In short, Biden’s actions have had essentially no effect on activities and are also easily undone by the next Republican President.

If we're buying our oil from these guys, why would you think there is a nexus between how much US companies are now spending and the available US supply or cost to the consumer?
On net, we aren’t buying oil from foreign sources. There is a nexus because companies can deliver the same returns and profits by spending far less cash, and so they’re staying the course and insulating themselves from a future price correction. At some point, prices may get high enough that they’ll move more money into developing more marginal reserves, but right now they aren’t too incentivized to.

The jobs of which you speak were from the increase in exploration and new wells brought online. That was under Trump's watch, rebounding from obama.
Net exporting doesn't have much to do with Trump's predecessor or Trump's "successor", except for anything developed on Fee surface/Fee minerals.
There is certainly some lag in exploration to production. With that said, the industry essentially shed jobs more or less the entire time Trump was in office. The above charts show oil industry jobs over time, with the two dots representing the beginning and end of Trump’s presidency.
Trump was very friendly to oil and gas companies, but that doesn’t change the broader market forces. We were oversupplied (which occurred during Obama’s presidency) and then hit with multiple shocks (trade wars, pandemics, etc) that kept demand low. The industry is nowhere near the levels we were at pre-2015 and the rig activity and capital spend has remained, and will remain, more or less suppressed. There’s little Obama, Trump, or Biden have done to alter this equation.
The surge in E&P in the Permian is the reason as most of that was private mineral development.

I just find it funny that guys, who spend thousands of $$ on new hunting equipment and expensive hunts every year, complain about paying a little more at the pump. If they'd invested a small fraction of their hunting expenses last year, they would have made plenty of gains to offset the current inflation. That's all.

If investments gain more than the rate of inflation, then the investor has successfully offset the inflation. In my example above, a $2K investment in an energy ETF would have realized around $1200 in gains last year (60%). For most drivers with the ability to save a little money, those gains would have more than offset the increase they paid at the pump. Not sure why that's so difficult for you to understand.
Let's take the broader S&P market as another example. It rose 28% in 2021, while inflation rose 7% over the same time frame. So, let's say you had $100K invested in a S&P indexed ETF, you would have gained $28K last year. Now, let's say $100K of your expenses inflated 7% last year, so you paid $7K more for those goods and services. Did your investments offset the inflation?

Rocky, please don't put words in my mouth. I have NEVER said I support Dem policies. I just think financial literacy is one of the great failings of our education systems. Shawn's posts are an example of that.
My wife and I started investing in our retirement accounts when we were both making around $30-40K per year. We certainly couldn't afford to invest much back then, but we always found a way to stash a little out of each paycheck. Albert Einstein once said "compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world", and he was right.
The "rule of 70" was a concept that struck home for me at an early age. It's a mathematical equation that demonstrates exponential growth. In finances you can use it to estimate the doubling time of an investment. You simply divide 70 by the estimated annual rate of return. Historically, the stock markets have averaged around a 10% return. So, every 7 years your investment will double. In real numbers, a $10K investment will be worth $20K in 7 years, $40K in 14 years, $80K in 21 years, and so on. It really doesn't take much money to grow a nice egg nest over the course of time, if you have a little foresight and financial discipline.

With the feds printing money, and no indications of them slowing it down in 2021, it was a fairly easy bet that the markets would do well. 2022 is shaping up to be a different story, but I bet we still see 6-8% returns from the stock markets by the end of the year.
Look, I'm not sure why you feel the need to point out that 1/3 of Americans don't have disposable incomes to invest. I thought that has been common knowledge for decades, and it will be true for decades to come.
I don't think that pointing out that many middle income Americans could do a better job of saving and investing shows a lack of humility. I'm constantly shocked by the number of people I meet in their prime earning years who don't have a clue about investing in their retirements. I guess that bodes well for financial advisors...

Don't blame politics or inflation for not setting yourself up. When your in your 50's is a little late but it's still better than not saving any money at all. My son works for a Gas supplier and if he invest a % of his pay the company matches it. He maxed out the % they let him invest. That with his IRA he's putting away close to 15% of his pay for retirement. He's got ten years in and already he's got a pretty nice sum built up.

Why would you throw out 401Ks when discussing who is invested in the stock market? I realize those investments come with restrictions, but a portion of most 401Ks are invested in stocks.

Teenagers are actively investing in stocks these days. According to Bloomberg, retail trades accounted for 23% of all US equity trading last year. I'm not advocating for people to become day traders, since most will lose money. But, investing opportunities do exist for anyone with some savings built up, and they can do it with relatively low risk.

In the back of the POS politicians minds they are weighing the pros and cons now.
To them Low life military lives don’t matter in the big scheme of things and neither do all the other concerns. What matters is them holding power and getting re elected. It’s been going on since Korea. Hell even in World War II the politicians tied Patton in MacArthur‘s hands behind their backs. Because of optics and politics, not military strategy or the nations interests.
Patton said let’s take care of Russia now or will we dealing with them later and MacArthur said let’s deal with China now or will be dealing with them in the Future and look where we are now from greasy politicians looking out for their own interests. Instead of the nations.
I see nothing to convince me they won’t do it again.
Someone who gets outsmarted but with a lot of power at their disposal is unsettling.
