Isobutane is a little lighter and a canister will last a little longer.

Do they generate the same amount/rate of heat and is there a difference in cost?

Good questions! Not sure, IMO cost difference is minimal so not a factor. I would pay more $$$ to save an ounce or two.

Isobutane kicks a little more heat for the weight.
Isobutane is also known as 2MethylPropane. That extra Methyl group contains some more energy.

Higher the propane the cooler it burns when butt cold I've noticed.

I used a pocket rocket for years and was happy. I was always nervous about bumping it but never had an issue. I then got a jetboil and I love it. I take less/pots pans so weight is the same. Works great, I stuff gear into the "pot" part so it does not take up to much space when packing. I love how fast it boils water.
