Anyone experience 'Trigger Finger'? [No... its not the old adage of shooting a lot....]
This is where a finger tendon locks up due to arthritis or some other reason. When you make a fist, the finger will stay closed or locked when you open your hand.
I recently have a finger that started doing this
I have a knee that does that occasionally, but I think it's just a loose piece of cartilage floating around in there from a past sports injury. It may worth it to you to visit a specialist.
Good luck,
Matt
Yup I have had it. It came on and disappeared within a year. It is a strange feeling.
My wife had /has it. Go get it looked at to determine the cause. Just depending it may or may not resolve on it's own. Her's is actually her thumb and got to the point that she couldn't do hardly anything with it including handling the dogs, working the slide on her pistols etc. before she went to get it checked out. With treatment it is resolving.
cnelk, is it your middle finger? I'm noticing mine is stuck in the 'up' position more these days!
You too Ok? I sometimes have that with BOTH middle fingers, especially when certain people appear on the TV screen!
I had a friend who had this happen, He ended up having surgery to fix it which worked out well for him.
Yup! Have it in my index & middle finger along with carpal tunnel in my left hand. Work related & having surgery on all of it February 6th. In & out operation. Can drive myself unless I take the valium they offer.
Yep had trigger finger surgery two years ago. Pretty simple, easy recovery, no rehab. I was able to watch the procedure, local, no sedative. No post op pain management. That finger tip is a little more cold sensitive now. No other ill effects
I had it in a middle finger. Went to the Orthopod and he said he could do surgery but that in most cases it heals itself within a few months. Mine did within about 6 months.
My wife just had her 7th trigger finger release surgery about a month ago. Her finger/fingers would oftentimes just lock up, and she would have to use her off hand to physically bend them back straight, which was extremely painful for her. As of now, the only digits she hasn’t had the procedure performed on, is both thumbs and her left index finger. She had no issues with her fingers locking up until about 9 years ago. Her orthopedic surgeon told her that TFS is much more prevalent in women, and even more common in women with RA (which my wife has been also diagnosed with, in the last 5 years).
Like stated above, it is an outpatient procedure. They always have put her under (her choice) and so far, all of her procedures have been successful, and she has regained full use of each finger, usually in 4-5 months. Recovery is usually faster, but her RA seems to slow the process. She is always very diligent about doing her PT exercises.
Pointer finger does it. Doesn't effect anything I do and only notice it occasionally because it looks odd.
t-roy, hate to admit it but tell her it can be caused by lotsa fist clenching while watching a certain team...
Thanks for the replies. It is my middle finger. It doesn’t lock up all the time yet.
I asked my girlfriend is I should leave it like this for her….. :)
Might wanna wash your hand, first, Brad ;-)
See the scar on palm of middlr
Ok, that's different than mine. Looks like what mine does is called mallet finger.
Use your other hand for awhile, Brad. ;-)
Its my middle finger too…and no its not from flipping off all of the liberal DB’s here in Ca… My finger stays straight for that. Grin^
Its from shooting Trad with fingers I’m sure…and it happens to be the same finger I’ve jammed many times playing basketball and head first sliding in my younger days.
My dad warned me…now that I’m old I get it….all of those old injuries come back to bite you.
