You’ll have to excuse my buddy’s ugly mug. They took this pic off a computer screen with his phone.

Just for a couple days of fun… I found this guys shed this spring. Brother got some pics of him this summer. I had him laying behind me during early November for several hours before a different buck offered me a shot and I took him with this stud laying behind me.

Shed from this spring, never found the other half but the neighbors woods and ours connect. They have the primary bedding areas and love shed hunting, so I may have to stop now and ask.

5x5 with short fourth on the one side. Seems decent mass. Spread is above average. 166.5 gross. And I bet I may be over.

Are we scoring the pics from this year or extrapolating last year score based on the shed?

I never get over how big bucks look in photos and how small they are when you get your hands on them. I have seen trail cam pictures of deer that appear to be 140 to 150 and barely make 120 when killed. Body size of deer can really throw off perception.

Iowa buck? If so I'd say 169, being from oklahoma where a mature buck could be 130lbs field dressed they get judged higher than they often are

If you look close you can see blood specks in the pic. He had both sides when he was standing at 40 yards during iowas late muzzle loader season.

Well Basil I did say at the start of the thread it’d be a bit.
Of all the bucks to run to me on that day, this guy was the first. Both sides intact and and on a crash course with me. At 40 ish yards he stopped in the open and turned broadside. By the time the smoke cleared I knew I had taken one of my best bucks ever. 30 minutes passed before I approached him…. Only to find he was missing his left side! I back tracked his blood trail and found the antler 5 feet from where I shot him. We all found out antlers make a weird suctioning noise when they pop off as his right side popped off as soon as I grabbed it for a better pic.

We learned you can feel the exact location of each antler as it locks in place on the burr . Also always listen to t-Roy. He just breaks a gross 160.

Nice. The trail cam pics I would have guessed mid 170s but as they say the camera adds a few pounds

His ears are back in all the trail cam pics making him look much wider than the 21 3/8” outside, that we measured him at. Could be wrong but that’s where his antlers locked in at

We made our once a year deer drive the day we killed him. Takes about 2 hours and is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. More smart ass text messages with my dad and brother than you could ever imagine. Had I passed him he would have surely dropped that night. It was almost scabbed over on his left side. His right probably would have been another day. Had he ran by with one side I honestly would’ve passed. I’ve been very lucky in my life. Shot some great deer and got to a place that it’s about smiles not just big antlers. I woulda felt he won this year. Actually kinda sad I won’t be able to look for his sheds this spring. There will be another next year though… always is

I see it in the hero shots. But, the originals without you in it made him look quite a bit larger.
