Brian Harman is winning the Open with a big lead. He gets some flak from the press for being an avid hunter.

From: t-roy
23-Jul-23
Had no idea who he was. I don’t follow golf very closely. Pulled up a couple of videos and articles about him. Seems like a pretty likable, humble guy. Some typical slanted ignorant comments by the press, about his hunting. Being a hunter AND a southpaw, (although he shoots a bow right handed) gives me a couple of good reasons to pull for him.

From: Scoot
23-Jul-23
Yup, send like a good dude. T, here's another reason to pull for him- he's an American! I hope he wins by 9.

23-Jul-23
I no longer care what the press or general public think. They are non existent in my mind! Glad to see him enjoying both sports!

23-Jul-23
Friends with tbone. Hope he wins.

Yeah, I’d rather watch paint dry than watch golf……but I hope he wins!

Always have a soft spot for lefty golfers as I hit the ball from the wrong side too. Weather getting nasty today. Hope he can hold it together!

Had no idea who he was until I was channel surfing yesterday. Hope he wins now!

BEG- I never got into playing golf regularly, but I took a golf class in college and the professor was a 10 yr veteran of the PGA Tour- he claimed lefties were playing from the “right”(correct side)..............something about your leading arm in the swing being your strong arm. ;-)

good article from a couple years ago. sounds like a good dude.

From: bigeasygator
23-Jul-23
Yeah, Rut, I’m one of those lefties who is right arm dominant. I throw right handed, write right handed, etc, but any sport involving a stick or a club I’m hitting from the left. That was always just more comfortable for me. No doubt the mechanics are a little different. Incidentally, I am right eye dominant and all my shooting is done right handed.

From: Rut Nut
23-Jul-23
That’s a great article! Thanks for sharing Ricky!

I loved this part: “Heck, he asked his wife, Kelly, to marry him before going out to hunt turkeys, taping the engagement ring inside the pocket of her new camouflage pants. Guy marks his golf balls with dots that look like deer tracks.“

From: Rut Nut
23-Jul-23
Same here BEG- I throw right but swing lefty. I am left eye dominant though, so I shoot a bow left handed.

Yeah, I guess I got that wrong. True lefties would be swinging wrong too. What he said was people who are right hand dominant should swing lefty.............so their lead arm is stronger.

He proudly declared at his post Open media interview that he is 100% bowhunter. Not bashful at all about his love for hunting. Stated he shoots to 80 yds, but holds hunting shots to 40 yds.

Would love to see Pat to get an interview with him.

From: Shaft

Congrats Brian! It was amazing how the media tried to trip him up with the bowhunting questions they were asking him. Wanting to make him look like "Brian the butcher". I thought he answered them very well.

23-Jul-23
He should get a good hunting range finder sponsor for him to carry while golfing.

Heres a short clip of Brian shooting his bow. I caddy at the Phoenix Open pro ams. A few years ago my player ended up next to Brian on the driving range warming up. He is very small but he knocks the crap out of that ball. Spoke to his caddy briefly and told Brian good luck. One of my caddy buddies was in his group and said Brian is a super guy.

He said that a lot of the Brits were less than nice him, especially on the last round. He was told to “hit it in the bunkers!” On one of his rare errant shots, there was an audible cheer from the crowd. He said there were also numerous things said to him that were “unrepeatable”. Probably made the victory even a bit more sweet to stick it to to those friggen limeys.

It's interesting... Europeans (and others) play in the "American-based majors" (Masters, US Open, PGA Championship) and the crowd is ripped for saying anything bad about the foreigners. But an American playing in the British Open (yes, the BRITISH Open, not the damn Open) is fair game for people to be Aholes to, especially if he's a hunter.

I love the idea of Pat interviewing him. However, I'm pretty sure the odds of that are somewhere between 0 and 0.00000001 for the next decade or so. Harmon's life changed in a big way yesterday and his free time will be nonexistent for a while.

He does seem like a good guy. I read an article about him golfing against Ricky Fowler in college. They were tied after 15 holes. Ricky pissed him off and he birdied the next 3 for the win.

That's cool - good on him. I don't follow golf, so didn't know him, nor that he was a lefty (read that above)... But that makes him cooler, as I write and shoot right-handed, but do everything else lefty - so that's fun to see too.

Seems like a humble dude and I am glad you all shared this. I'll make a prediction and would bet my paycheck on it.....the money nor the increased fame will change this guy. He is just salt of the earth. He's got a new fan now.

“I was rooting for him all the way. Especially after some brt yelled he didn't have the Stones to win. Now I am even more glad he won.”

Sometimes you need a little “additive” to get you inspired. A more effective comment than probably his coach could have shared with him.

t-roy, can you post the link to his presser after the win? I looked for it but didn't find it. Maybe Pat can interview him soon and let him know about this site. I'd let him know my self but the Phoenix Open is not until next February.

Hey guys, So I caddied in the Phoenix Open Pro Am and ran into Brian Harmon. We had a great chat for a few minutes talking about elk hunting. He had never heard of bowsite so I showed him this thread. He laughed when he saw his pic in the first post of this thread. I gave him my business card with instructions on how to google this thread. He said he would check it out so hopefully he pipes in someday. He was running late to his tee time so I only planned on giving him my card. He didn't try to rush me at all and acted like he had on hour for me. The guy is as genuine as they come, a true gentleman.

Easy to like this guy…handled those reporters like a champ! I’m not a big golf fan but I will be rooting for Brian now. It’s also cool he’s still shooting a 20 year old Mathews. I’m betting they would send him a new bow if they saw that YouTube video lol. Congrats Brian!
