.................for this season?! If so, let us know where you are going and what species you will be chasing! Some of us will be living vicariously thru you.............................. ;-)
Almost, chances of drawing this elk tag in NM are pretty dang slim.
Headed out Sunday on Mt Goat hunt with a buddy that has a tag if that counts?
That should be fun John! Post some pics!
Nice guys! You taking your camera John?
I want to see the UT GOAT
I love huge Pronghorn
Rut on the fence. Long ride in on UTV on bumpy/Rocky road makes me nervous. Probably will take a camera probably not my long lens. Maybe my old long lens.
Colorado bull moose! Unfortunately I have gall stones acting up, hoping to make it through season without surgery.
Best of luck to you, kadbow! Hopefully the gallstones don’t interfere with your hunt.
Valle Vidal muzzleloader elk in October.

I have my Utah Desert Ram tag for this fall.
If I harvest him, I will have all of my Utah OIL species in my T-Room wall.
I've been down on 1 scouting trip already, see my link for the write up so far.
Back down after mid-September Wyo Bow cow elk hunt, for my 2nd Sheep scouting trip, the end of September.
Good luck All you guys/gals with those sweet tags!
Robb
Yep Michigan bull Elk tag. Took 19 years to get a tag...
I recently became painfully aware of the fact that I am older than my dad’s father ever got to be. I haven’t hunted out west in probably 15 years and despite being in unusually good condition for a guy crowding 60, there’s honestly a chance that This Year will be my last shot at it.
So what I’m saying is that no matter what you’re after this year, it could indeed be either a once-in-a-lifetime or last-in-a-lifetime proposition. You just never know what rotten hand life will deal you.
Take nothing for granted. There are no guarantees….
I drew NV desert bighorn unit 211. It's an average unit and I'm thankful to draw it. Got my Stone in 2010 and my dall in 2014 with a rifle. I just can't take a chance of not completing my grand slam so I'll do this one with a rifle as well. Hopefully by Thanksgiving I'll be 3/4 slam and looking to find a rocky mountain bighorn tag in the near future. After i get my grand slam I'll go back and try with archery gear.
Wife drew a OIL nebraska bull elk tag. She will be rifle hunting though.
The way things are going, a Wyoming gen elk tag will be OIL.
Tanner that’s awesome! Good luck to her!
Just got home from Wyoming with a punched moose tag !
Did you get a good one Willieboat?
Kinda narrow not a real wide one.
I heard he got 3 shots at the same one :)
BULELK1 - "If I harvest him, I will have all of my Utah OIL species in my T-Room wall"
Please correct me if I'm wrong I haven't read Utah's regs in a few years, but I thought you could only harvest one species of Once-In-A-Lifetime, hadn't realized you could draw and kill all the OIL species?
Willieboat is a badass and a good dude to share camp with. Maybe he’ll post a photo of his moose.
Just started my OIL in the Montana breaks for bighorn sheep. Unbelievably fortunate to draw this tag
Willieboat, I agree with Ron Niziolek and hope that you are going to post a photo of your bull moose..... Congratulations!
Not technically once in a lifetime. Unit 10 Elk, Arizona early archery. Going to go at it like it’s OIL tag.
Z--ya can only apply for 1 OIL species, as a Ressy
(but some people change species every year and end up in No Mans land with low points on all 5 of the OIL Species)
and after/when ya draw you can go for another one next.
I have tried to Simplify the goal of all OIL species with help from Mont., Colo. and Wyo.
Granted, 3 have been from Utah, Rocky, Mnt Goat, this Desert. Pretty dang good multiple drawing record for anyone/any state.
Good luck, Robb
Good for you willieboat---->
Congrats,
Robb
Congrats WIllieboat! Hope to see a pic or story about it!
Bowfinatic- was hoping you would chime in! (I started this thread with you in mind ;-)
Sounds like a bunch of you have some great tags! Hope to see some pics and stories so the rest of us can live vicariously................................ : )
Congrats and good luck to all
Yep. Just a general tag, but September 2023 only gonna happen once.
I have a MT sheep tag which is not easy to get even after 23 years of building points.
BULELK1 - It's been a while so forgive me as a non resident that hasn't kept up with Utah's regs...
I understand you can only apply for 1 species of Utah's Once-In-A-Lifetime for that year, correct?
Say you draw a tag for one of the Once-In-A-Lifetime species, we'll say Mountain Goat... I'm setting on 20 Mountain Goat points I've acquired through the years going into 2024, and if I was lucky enough to draw and received a goat tag next year,,, hunted but no kill... So is my opportunity to ever draw another Utah goat tag gone, or (since I didn't kill) start over again and keep applying following years (starting back at 0 points) until I receive a tag and make a kill for that Mountain Goat...
Okay, now another scenario,,, say I received my goat tag made a goat kill... YAY... I understand I am now done hunting goats in Utah for the rest of my life... But now can I apply for other one Utah Once-In-A-Lifetime species the following years...
I guess what I'm trying to ask is - are these OIL tags done for that specific species (say goat) once drawn, or are you done for all the other OIL species, Moose, Bison, Desert Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep too?
Thanks for any clarification...
Zbone, no you wouldn’t be able to apply for mnt goats again even if you didn’t kill. You could however, purchase an auction permit if you wanted the spend the money. You can buy those yearly. It’s all up to you and your pocket book.
Your 2nd scenario, yes you could still apply for and potentially draw a different once in a lifetime Species in Utah.
Cool DConcrete, exactly what I needed to know, once drawn an OIL tag your done for that species, regardless of kill or no kill, but can still apply for the other OIL species... Thank you sir...
I have a Utah bison tag for this year. It is my first OIL tag from Utah.
My wife, on the other hand, has previously drawn bison, Mtn goat and moose in Utah. She just needs the sheep tags to finish all the Utah OIL species.
Bill
Thanks Jeff, you are good to go now Z--.
Your Mrs. has done very well in our state Bill.
I have never drawn any of these tags in any state with max points pool, always a Random tag drawn.
Good luck, Robb
Got my once in a lifetime Colorado bull moose (before my gallbladder did me in). With everything going on I wasn’t going to be too picky, just wanted one that looked like a moose. Opening morning success!
Willie, too bad you couldn’t get any good help in Wyoming. Lots of scoundrels here. Was a good looking moose though.
Way to go kadbow! That’s way bigger than my Colorado moose! ;-)
Good lookin bull kadbow….congrats!
Kadbow, Great looking bull for a longbow archer!!
WOW, nice kadbow... CONGRATS!
Congrats on the moose Kadbow
Congratulations! Nice Bull Mark (kadbow)!! Now go get yourself healthier!
Way to go Mark, very nice Bull, Congrads.
Come on Straight Shooter, expand on that? One little pic won't hurt anything. Wish I could have been there for it!
Rickm
Yes- that was just a big TEASE! ;-)
Congratulations, Mark! Hell of a bull! Hope you get better quick!
