Small heater for tent?

I’m looking for a little heater, probably propane, to take the chill off of my 8x8 tent in the morning. Might help dry clothes a bit too. Any suggestions? I need small and light I have a weight limit.

If your thinking of drying clothes, wouldn't you want something that more of a dry heat. Some cook stoves can take the chill out, but most produced moisture. You can buy silicone stove Jacks that are glued to the tent for $30. Then just get a small backpack stove/heater

I don't think you're gonna find one smaller than a buddy heater. You do know they make one that is about the same size as the 1lb propane bottle right? Says its good up to 95 sq ft.....

They make small buddy heaters, I've taken them before and it worked well. Not a dry heat, but takes the chill off. Not sure you will find anything lighter and still be effective.

Getting packed in by an outfitter. There’s a chance I could pack up camp and relocate so backpacking. 18 days is a long time to camp in one spot. Nick that doesn’t look bad at all. Thanks

I have that same small buddy heater. I’m taking it with me just to take the chill off in the morning if I need to. Mostly for my 12 yr old son though.

You guys might want to look into the isobutane heaters. They are much smaller/lighter. I picked up one of these as a smaller/lighter alternative to the buddy heater. They even make a “mini” smaller size for backpacking.

I got it in early Spring and so haven’t really used it yet. Tested it out at the house when I got it and seemed to kick out quite a bit of heat.(comparable to the Little Buddy) I think for a heater to run in a tent for a little while to take the chill off or to dry some gear it would be perfect. I got it primarily for ice fishing so haven’t used it yet.

Anything that burns propane, butane etc produces moisture when burning, it can dry out clothes but not nearly like electric or wood heat. One trick is to wear wet clothes to be, they will be dry by morning. Not fun but works good for base layers.

My Jet Boil throws off enough heat to usually get my blood flowing, unless it's real cold.

Screw the Buddy Heater. Get the Mr Heater that you can heat or cook on. I’ve had mine for over 20 years.
Get a long hose and set the 20lb tank outside the tent. It will last over a week

Cnelk, I have a similar unit only with 2 burners. I love it for car camping, but I'm not sure how practical it would be for Mule Power's needs.

We don’t pack 20 pounders to the high country. I’ll be lucky to get 1 pounders up there. I have one of those. It doesn’t work anymore.
I ordered 2. The Little Buddy that Nick posted and the Campy Gear Rut Nut suggested. With the propane hose adapter I’m really versatile. I can run my JetBoil off both fuels. I can run the Campy heater off both fuels. And a little buddy will runoff propane. I think I’m set. Can’t wait to test them.

I am looking at the desiel heaters. Guys are using them a ton in Ice hunts for winter ice fishing. A battery pack small solar charger and a small amount of desiel fuel will keep an ice hut warm for days in - temps. They procedure dry heat and used forced air.
I have not dropped the $ yet but have a feeling that my life will change this winter when I buy one…

I will be doing this set up or very close when I build… but I will be running a smaller fuel tank, the pump will be insulated for noise and the battery will be a Jackery unit or it will be a smaller Dakota lithium. All to make it smaller and more portable…

Is the tent, blind, etc. designed for use with an open flame heater? I double checked a few pieces of equipment and a sample of the material went foof, flame on. If possible, I set up in a portable fish house made for being heated. The insulated variety has kept me warm on a few 10 degree nights

The Campy Gear Chubby 2-in-1 Heater and FireHiking LEVA tent stove is another excellent option. It's a bit heavier than the Little Buddy at 5 pounds, but it doubles as a stove, making it a versatile choice for camping trips. Does nobody use white gas anymore? A Coleman white gas lantern, lit from your sleeping bag provides light and heat. The fuel is way less bulky than propane. A white gas camp stove can throw a ton of heat. The Inuit use both in their tents in sub zero weather.

Ditto on the gas lantern. The fuel is reasonable priced if you have a duel fuel lantern that can burn unleaded gas.

Just bought a heater buddy. Got the filter and hose adapter to hook up to 20lb bottle. Hopefully it keeps the tent warm next week during my dad's Colorado 4th season elk hunt.
