I have a CPL for over 10 years and carry a handgun frequently, that includes while bowhunting. I'm considering a membership in USCCA. Are there any members on this forum? If so, would you recommend joining?
I am not a member but recently heard that SCCA insurance does not cover you if you are charged with a crime, which to me, kind of defeats the purpose of self defense insurance.
My wife and I have been members for almost a year and are happy we've joined. The insurance is nice to have and adds some much needed protection in this day and age. While we haven't taken advantage of the classes they offer, we plan on it during the winter.
I tried USCCA, I didn’t hate it; switched to LawShield. Now I have a local 2A Attorney’s cell number. He said they can even call him with any questions.
I let my policy lapse. I need to take a look at lawshield In my home area. I most likely wouldn’t be charged if deemed justified. But when traveling, who knows what nut job DA you could fall under.
A little off topic but my 2 cents worth on the subject. I live an extremely low key lifestyle, work, hunt, fish, a visit to the gas station a couple times a week & the grocery store every couple of weeks & dinner out every couple of months.
I drive a trash truck & am in low rent undesirable areas in the early am several times a week.
Back during the blm uprisings I felt the need to cc for pretty much the first time in my life & I did so during that entire time.
Honestly "for me" the responsibility that came with cc and the possibility that I may kill someone outweighed the security I felt by from carrying. Don't get me wrong I'm never far from a 12 Guage loaded with 00 buck or one of numerous pistols. Just saying having a gun on my person at all times just isn't necessary in my life. In fact after carrying every day for over a year I'm much more comfortable without it.
Has anyone here read "In The Gravest Extreme" or "The Truth About Self-Protection", both by noted gun writer Massad Ayoob? The books cover a lot on the legal aspects of defensive shooting. Ayoob also does videos on youtube on the 'Wilson Combat' channel.

Personally, I hope and pray I NEVER have to use my "carry" gun......................................BUT if ever I AM in that situation, I want it available and ready! My biggest fear is that I will need it sometime and (for whatever reason) I do NOT have it to protect myself and my family! That's why I usually carry it whenever and wherever legal.
Rut nut.... I'm 62 yo. 3 times in my life I've been in a situation where i had a loaded gun pointed at me. One I was in central Florida. Williston to be exact in the early 80s. It was dark I was out of smokes & without thinking I pulled into the quick mart on the east side of town on a Friday night. Dumb mistake, next thing I know iv got this punk black kid pointing a gun at me explaining that I'm on the wrong side of town. I kept my cool explained I was just getting some smokes he eased up I got my smokes & left.
The 2nd.was also in fla and actually it was an elderly man I took fishing often. We had planned on fishing a local tournament & at the last minute I had a carpet job come up from a really good customer that I couldn't turn down. The old man got so pissed that I had to cancel he stuck a .25 in my face, shaking so bad I don't think he could have hit me. The 3rd was a hunting altercation up in the mountain and all parties were armed & was rather heated but ended in somewhat agreement. With tensions eased.
All 3 incidents I'm extremely glad I didn't kill someone. As the above video clearly states, it's a life changing event to kill someone.
As I previously said im never far from a gun , but personally don't feel the need or desire to cc on my person except in rare cases, such as when the brothers were riled up during the blm nonsense. ..
To be truthfully honest. As a professional driver I worry 1000 times more about the car coming at me on a 55mph 2 lane road where the only thing separating a head on collision is the lines painted on the road & a complete strangers judgment.....or hitting a deer when I'm riding my harley on the back roads.... Than I do about needing a pistol in my pocket !!!
Great video Rut Nut, thanks for sharing. I've never had CCW insurance. Don't really carry that much these days, outside of church. But I want to be able to defend my church family if the need ever arises.
Buying insurance you need to look at your 'risk'. Are you - because of work or travel, or where you live - more or less likely to be in a 'deadly force' situation? (Not to mention the 'political' situation, attitude of local police, etc.) Population density?
I live on the thin edge of a county in Mass. that still has more people in it than the entire state of Wyoming. If I lived in the city I'd darn sure want a Glock, and insurance.
