Anybody own one? Your experience?
I came very close to trading for one today, 2020 model.
I know there were some issues related to the direct injection on some eco boost engines. I’m reading Fox and Ford recommends rebuilding the shocks every 50k so you’re without your truck for 3 weeks and cost is around a $1000.
A lot of high performance tech I’m a nervous about.
Anyways, interested in experiences related to the Raptor. Just the Raptor. Not going to buy a Tacoma or Tundra.
Sweet trucks… ride amazing… fast… loud… personal opinion…I wouldn’t buy one. To fancy pantsy for me. I’ll take my d-max
Ford need better shocks if 50k is all they last.
The shocks are Fox. They’re high end. That said they’re made for Baja racing and if that’s what you’re doing with your truck then 50 seems reasonable. I use my truck a lot of road but it’s not Baja so maybe that stat is inaccurate.
I’m just wondering about long term reliability.
Probably spend the same and walk away with a 2024 super duty f250
No Raptor experience but have a regular f150 with the Eco and rear locker. Nice everyday and hunting rig.
Just my .02. Unless you really need the off road suspension, a regular F150 or F250 would be a better option. The raptors are nice, but they eat gas, and dont have the towing capacity of the 250 if you tow much, and do cost a fair amount more than a well equipped version of either the 150 or 250. I have a ‘21 F250, and definitely wouldnt trade it for a raptor. My previous 3 trucks were F150s with the 5.0, and I wouldnt have traded those for a raptor either.
I own two. After the first one I swore I would get another one once I was done with #1. Then when I bought number two a few weeks ago, I just couldn’t let number one go. I use the 2019 for long haul hunting trips and rougher stuff on my farm. The ride is so smooth on the mountain roads that it’s hard to explain until experienced.
Terrible gas mileage, frequent suspension repair.
Fix Or Repair Daily
Oh, did I say terrible gas mileage?
I’ve ridden in a couple off road and the ride is amazing for a pickup truck. Bunch of opinions above with no factual basis save a couple.
If you don’t mind poor gas mileage and don’t plan to use your truck for towing and hauling but want a nice performance stock pickup they’re a great choice.
I was close to buying one of the 1st Gen Raptors back in 2012. But there were a bunch of significant and common problems being reported, so I passed. I think Ford has corrected most of those problems on the newer models.
If I’m not mistaken, the 2020 has a twin turbo V6, so maybe the mileage has improved over the earlier V8 versions.
They certainly are sexy looking trucks. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Matt
Lots of them, used, on Craigslist here. 2018 with 69k, still asking $50k. Showy, to be sure, but...
Look into the AEV Prospector truck first. If you want a better off road truck
I think a f250 would be better, get the 6.7 or the high output 6.7, crazy power in both and the best diesel on the market. Throw a 2" lift on it and some 37s and you good to go unless you buy used the 2017-2019 trucks don't need a lift for 37s
My cousin owns this Shelby edition, and his son in law owns one as well. Cousin also owns the full service mechanic shop and car lot this truck sits on and he says he takes all eco boosts over 100k straight to the auction because they have so many problems and are costly to fix.
If you like the Raptor but don't need ALL of that racing off-toad tech, check out the Tremor model. Love mine!!
To experience fun step on gas.

Most of these guys don't know what they are taking about. My Raptor makes me giggle everyday. At 60 thats the most important factor I can think of. Great fun off-road ride is amazing. Get one and decide for yourself.
Raptors are for the cool factor and playing around. If ya have the money and the desire then get the damn thing!
Ive wanted one since they started but there is no need in Florida except as a status vehicle which seems like the current trend for truck guys.I can see a definite application on rough mountain roads.
They just make driving enjoyable.
I have 3 buddies that own them and have both the older V8 and V6. Nice ride but my Ram limited with Air ride is as nice or better.
Limited tow capacity and the maint of gas shocks kills it for me. If you want to haul ass around the desert in a great stack config- great…but IMO very few do, they don’t want to scratch them.
..
I would look for a bad Chevy Duramax.
or just get some viagra. That might get you the enhanced performance you are looking for.
"there is no need in Florida except as a status vehicle which seems like the current trend for truck guys."
I know a guy who just bought a new one, uses it for a two mile commute in central Mass. ;-) He might occasionally baja across his 40 acre property, but otherwise, it's pure 'show'.
Whatever vehicle you decide to buy, you’d better do it soon. If the UAW gets their way, you’ll be paying twice what it costs today…which, in my opinion, is 4 times more than they’re actually worth. Legalized extortion at its finest!

the poser sector of the economy is doing well.
I have no issue with people buying trucks for show or fun over practicality. There are plenty of vehicles I on my impractical wish list.
Wow, appreciate all the responses.
For what it’s worth I’ve got a Super duty gas engine now. The truck eats more gas than the Raptor does. The truck is very basic by todays standards and I like that.
I somehow managed to find the smallest thread of common sense , even with my wife sitting in the passenger seat saying, “ wow this is nice, you need this”, and walked away.
I do a quite a bit of off roading. I don’t own atv’s, I use my truck to get anywhere I can legally and ethically fit it in and then use the quads god gave me. The scratches and dents will attest to that. I’m definitely north of “moderate” on the off road scale.
At any rate, thanks again. I did not buy it. I’m going to downsize at some point and it’ll more than likely be an f150 with the FX4 package. I was close though, very close.
I forgot to mention, the shock rebuild stuff was pretty much the deal killer for me as well.
My truck is business and personal and I need it everyday. I’m kind of maintenance OCD so it’s not something I could just ignore.
I even looked at the cost of just buying an extra set. Take the old set off, send them in, replace and keep the rebuilds on the shelf for the next time. At this point I was starting to realize I’m going to far.
I think you read TJS's response, looked back at your handle, and realized you didn't need one.
Yea! That was the reason.
I thought the raptor was for hot airid conditions. If your driving in cold climates your really not getting the performance unless you tune it for the weather.

My son in law owns one. Super fancy for sure. Yes they go fast with the twin turbo but they have zero balls when it comes to towing/hauling and they’re built on the 3.5 eco boost platform. No thanks. Borrowed it for a week last summer and it was fun but would never own one. Way too wide for the places I go hunt as well. Buy a 6.7 F-250 for that price point.
I'm sure they are an extremely capable machine. But I've always thought of them as a niche type truck for a guy that offroads as a hobby. Unless you are that type, I would think a standard half ton would meet 99% of your needs.
Shoulda bought it! Life is too short not to enjoy what you drive and have some fun while you can...
Once they drive it they will understand. Certainly not for the penny pincher guys who check their mileage and how much gas costs each day or week, but that’s fine too.
After some internet sleuthing I decided If I do go away from my 250 it’ll most likely be the F150 Tremor. You get all the interior luxury and tech items the Raptor has and I don’t even care about. More importantly you get the rear locker and the Torson limited slip front diff. Regular shocks. Standard f150 body. Choice of V8 or the 3.5 eco boost.

Two thumbs up for the Tremor !!
What the hell is a Tremor? A small orgasm?
Save your money, don't be a slave to another man. Drive an average vehicle and don't pay for something the price of a house that depreciates that quick.
