Any no-limit is dumb.

This is an alternative to the "helicopter shooting and let them rot" proposal from some other Wyo legislator earlier in the year.
The shoot them and let them rot should only apply to Wyoming Legislators
Disagree, RK. I think they should grandfather in a bunch of other state’s legislators, too.
After watching a side by side come off private land in wyoming to BLM and chase a huge herd of elk back to private, the landowners shouldnt get any type of bullshit permit like this. Illegal as hell and no way to catch them im sure. Luckily, I shot my cow out of the herd after they ran thru it initially and pushed them up the canyon.
KHNC should have recorded it, turn them in.
T-Roy. I stand corrected and agree :)
Khnc did you happen to be in a triple digit unit in Eastern wy? We witnessed the same thing and 3 other groups we talked to saw the same shit from the outfit. He would drop off hunters then block or drove the herd with vehicles. We tried to intercept the herd on public but he drove across fed land to get between us after trying to keep them from crossing the highway. .The verbal interaction I had with the landowner On the road was mind boggling. This guy was a douche of the highest order. I ended up dropping an elk 50 yards from his property line later in the trip (his corners are very easy to see) out of a group that was heading to private. I felt like I won some small victory. We reported him but didn’t have any good video to provide.
This is a stupid idea. There are already plenty of tags and tag holders. Allow access via access yes maybe extend the season and let the problem be solved without ruining the area/unit . I won’t be crying in my beer over the plight of the wy “ranchers”
Troy, is it ok if I volunteer some of ours ? ;-)
Ranchers and game wardens are often in cahoots.
The stupid Idea is giving out any more hunting licenses to hunters. They are irresponsible and disrespectful to private land and land owners who do allow hunting..........See it goes both ways thedude
Sorry cnelk I know the GW and some of the ranchers in this area, they are not in cahoots. GWs and biologists have been trying to knock this herd down for years but LOs are not letting it happen. Lets lay this blame where it belongs , with the LOs.
@thedude No, We were in a double digit Area in Northern Wyoming. I guess its a widespread issue anywhere there is a surplus of cow elk available. Bull tags in the area I was in take max points to get. Saw some bombers! I could have videoed with my phone, but then how to find out the actual perpetrators would be another problem. In my experience, not enough GW's around to cover such vast areas anyway.
Of all the reported complaints of ranchers herding elk from Public back to private over the years, I’ve never heard of anything being investigated or any tickets being issued…
Perception is Reality
Brad, I reported a case in North Park where a well known outfitter and his crew were running the elk from the big hay meadows on State Trust over to their ranches two days before archery season started. I was told that unless the LEOs catch them in the act, nothing they could do. Otherwise they could claim they were rounding up cattle or whatever. Probably a lot of cattle herding going on all over.
Had spot on state land in WY that was quite a honey hole. The surrounding rancher was pretty unhappy someone figured out it was legally accessible. The Warden settled it but whenever the rancher saw a truck parked it was suddenly a good time to "check cattle" on his ATV. He had the grazing rights.
GWs are not in cahoots with these LOs in area 6, I know the reality cnelk. Sorry man but I have 30 years in this area, not going to throw our GWs under that bus just yet- in this area. Another area I may have something to agree with you on, but not in 6 right now.
Yes we have LOs that do just what is described, seen it myself. Reported a guy flying over and harassing elk one time, he wasn't even the LO. Where does this stuff not happen, no other state?
Folks WG&F has been trying for years to get a hold on this herd and gain more access. They can not force LOs to grant that. They have come out against the proposals, have stated that leaving elk to rot is illegal and will not be tolerated. They have tried G&F personnel taking hunters out on private ranches.
Residents think this stinks as well. Very frustrating to see the LOs saying they can't get good experienced hunters on their places, we all know that is BS.
Good to hear that Area 6 in Wyo is an anomaly
If you want tax payer dollars in damage claims, those same tax payers should be allowed some sort of opportunity.
Make no mistake, they just want money, moreeee money.
If that was a rule I bet the damage claims plummet
Animals are the property of the state.
The states property damages Private property.
Of course the state should have to pay. And no, a land owner shouldn’t be forced to allow access. Nice try mao.
Some of you guys have your heads so far up your asses, it isn’t even funny.
If the State's resources are used to operate a business on private property or add a big premium to the value of a property, should the land owner pay something?
DC, they ain’t forced to allow access. That’s a choice
Sorry, but I have a problem with welfare systems that get abused. These same ranchers that cry for damages are willing to do nothing to help resolve the issue, that is unless the resolution somehow gets them more money.
It’s funny that many ranchers cry for damages yet do all they can to keep those animals on their property at the same time
Funny, spouse saw 300 elk in area 6 Saturday morning , on public land. No elk hunters around, I guess they were all online griping about no elk access.
G&F does not pay damages unless they allow hunting, but yes for some it is all about the $$$.
For the record I have no issues with cnelk, he's a good guy we just disagree on this. This area is an anomaly, no but to say GWs are in cahoots with LO is just false. Which specific GWs are working to keep elk on private in 6 cnelk? You must have names to make that claim. WG&F has been trying for years to get more access, LOs are not working on that.
Years ago this area was LQ draw area, G&F saw the population growing and LOs were complaining about too many elk and hard to draw tags so it went to General elk. What a cluster. Trespassing ramped up considerably, as did poaching. I'm betting LOs got tried of both and hence the lack of access for all and big bulls were taken. The area does hold large bulls, so yes $$ comes into play.
Residents are pretty pizzed that this proposal has come up, they make most of the same arguments as you all except for the G&F being in cahoots with LOs, we know better.
