Perhaps it's just me,,,,,,,but it seems to me that if I drove my work truck the way politicians & weather men do their jobs, I'd be upside-down in a ditch.

Completely dumbfounds me how someone can do such a poor job & still get a paycheck.

The right been fighting for a border bill for 6 months, the left attaches Ukraine to the bill ??????? And then on top of that Trump encourages his loyalist to stall to make him look better or Biden worse, if that's even possible.......wtf...

And the dumb weatherman said no rain on Saturday !!!!!!! We'll that was lots of fun on the harley,,,,,poured an inch in 3 hours.

How is it that these folks still have a job.

12-Feb-24
not to defend either... but if truck drivers were under the same spotlight as politicians and weather men...i suspect they wouldnt fare any better.

people are people and regardless of what they do...a lot of them end up in the ditch upside down.

Not so sure about that Ricky, Dot keeps a fairly short leash on cdl drivers,,,,,hours of service regulations, dot physicals, annual truck inspections, daily driver pre & post trip instructions.......gotta look hard to find a comercial vehicle these days that doesn't have electronic log book & a vehicle monitoring dash cam system........

Now those dingbats from up north driving like their still on the pa & jersey turnpike heading to the obx, those are the horrific crash causes.

Technically, the right told the left no aid for other countries if you dont do a border bill. The left said ok, and basically caved to every wish of the right (like 95% of them), leading to the most conservative border reform bill in like 40 years. Then the right - who mandated the set up of things AND the specifics, said no, because the great DJT said he wanted to use said issues to run for president.

I'd agree though, at least politicians. Weather people deal with crazy atmospheric dynamics which have zillions of inputs from local to global in scale, making prediction accuracy really hard. Politicians, I dont understand them very well.

There is no need for a new border bill. "The border is closed".

What is needed is for this administration to work with the border states, instead of fighting them, to enforce the laws we already have.

What dumbfounds me is that we're all stupid enough to think that politicians are even relevant and that we keep going along with all their dumbass antics.

Stupid is as stupid does; we keep paying them to waste our hard earned money all the while saying "yes master" to any and all restrictive "laws" and regulations they impose...

i understand that but even with all that monitoring, there are about 500,000 truck accidents every year...resulting in thousands of deaths.

my point was not that truck drivers are bad, or that they are any more or less incompetent than anyone else. my point was that they are people...and just like politicians and weather men some are good...some suck...and some are downright dangerous.

Immigration laws for starters...

"Which laws?"

8 U.S. Code § 1325 - Improper entry by alien U.S. Code Notes prev | next (a)Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

So if we're getting 1000 illegal immigrants a day, do you want to jail them? 365000 new inmates a year? Pretty sure we can't build new jails or hire new guards that fast. Heckuva growth industry, though. I wonder who's already invested in it...

From: sundowner

Nah.....just simply PREVENT them.

Nah.....just simply PREVENT them.

1000 illegal immigrants shouldn't be getting in every day. They should be stopped at the border.

This is quite a different statement than "enforce the existing immigration laws." And just watched a video of a Venezuelan woman crawling under razor wire with her 2 year old child this morning. Again, call me highly skeptical that physical barriers are going to stop people from seeking a better life for themselves and their family.

And in response to sundowner, the issue is with asylum.

8 U.S. Code § 1158 - Asylum (a)Authority to apply for asylum (1)In general Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien’s status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title.

From: bigeasygator

So bigeasy and Dana are good with illegal immigration?

Never said that. I do think more border security in places can help, as can giving border agents more power, as can fixes to the asylum system, as can expediting work permitting for non-citizens.

From: sundowner

"And in response to sundowner, the issue is with asylum."

Many who are "seeking asylum ", or claim to be, are merely seeking to exploit our asylum policies in order to get the free stuff. A very large percentage of "asylum seekers" have crossed several countries to arrive here. Why didn't they ask for asylum in the first country they came to that relieved them of the "persecution" they're trying to escape?

From: sundowner
12-Feb-24
And to those who cry out, "Razor wire at the border is inhumane!!"

The use of razor wire at the border is not inhumane if you don't attempt to illegally crawl under it or over it. It's no more complicated than that.

Possibly. That's why I'd love to see fixes that expedite their cases so that they are not as much of a drain on the system. Get them working or get them out.

Why didn't they ask for asylum in the first country they came to that relieved them of the "persecution" they're trying to escape?

Lots of reasons. Economic opportunity likely being the biggest.

"Lots of reasons. Economic opportunity likely being the biggest."

So if that's true, they are not necessarily seeking freedom, or relief from oppression, but they actually want a monthly welfare check, cell phone, SNAP card, free meds, etc, etc, etc........you know, all the Biden- Mayorkas freebies.

Ricky...........I only glanced at the link,,,,,I will somewhat agree in that when I hauled seafood up north I delivered to the stop & shop distribution complex In Assonet mass. The place is huge , something like 180 loading doors. They had bilingual speakers at the receiving office,,,,always puzzled me how someone that couldn't speak or read English could obtain a comercial driver's license.........

One thing a lot of folks don't take into account or consideration is the miles cdl drivers log....the 10 years I hauled seafood I was basically living in a truck & drove well over a million miles....that's more driving in 10 years than the average driver won't even get close to in their lifetime,,,, most statistics don't take that into consideration.

From: fuzzy

Timex that's a lot of miles. I did 1.5 million miles in passenger vehicles in 32 years of field work mostly in the SW Virginia mountains. Only ever hit one deer hard enough to kill it and damage the car. One of my proudest brags. That's a LOT of windshield time my friend.

Will’s first paragraph nailed.

It is a sad commentary on our country that a person who is not even part of our government has so much influence on pending legislation.

From: Jaquomo
12-Feb-24
Please. If "asylum" is the issue, we should just automatically accept everyone from every country that sucks, economically or politically. The whole asylum issue is a red herring. Why aren't these asylum seekers seeking asylum in Mexico? Duh. Because we give everyone free shit. How many hundreds of millions of non-citizens can our country absorb? A billion? At what point do we say, "Enough!"? When enough of them are naturalized so that Demorats are guaranteed perpetual legislative power?

I ask these questions of my leftist-socialist "open border" advocates, and never get a straight answer except that "we can support a lot more immigrants".

From: bigeasygator
12-Feb-24
Well, they did try to change the asylum laws so that we could say enough is enough but that bill got killed. As it stands, there is no mechanism right now to say "enough." So kinda comes back to the question I asked earlier, Jaq...which laws should they just enforce to fix the situation?

Regarding what we can afford or tolerate, when someone shows me a robust economic analysis that compares the cost of immigration with the benefits of immigration, I'll have a better answer. My gut tells me the net economic benefits outweigh the costs.

actually they do...at least for fatalities. per 100 million miles, fatalities involving large trucks are actually more common that the overall fatal crash rate for vehicles .

Yep, and the Dems had a Dem supermajority in both Houses of Congress, a super-left Dem president, yet did nothing with this issue. What does this say about the perceived seriousness? Dems are all for unfettered illegal immigration until the polls tell them the American people are sick of it, in an election year, and Dem cities are finally getting what they wanted courtesy of busloads of illegals with no money to pay for their care. Then, all of a sudden, we have to do something, NOW! Seriously.

Says about the same thing regarding the seriousness as the GOP killing a bill that aimed to address (to varying degrees) all those things.

This was not an "immigration bill". It was a big deficit spending bill that included some immigration changes which would effectively ratify illegal immigration at historically high levels. Even Amnesty International opposed it. It would never pass the House anyway because no one would answer the simple question, "How will you pay for it?"

But more importantly, what leads anyone to believe this administration would enforce any of it even if it did pass as a standalone package. In three years they have shown no interest in border enforcement, attack the states that are trying to do something about it, lied over and over about the status and situation, and appointed Cackles as the "Border Czar" (who refused to visit the areas most affected, while insisting that the "border is secure").

What part of "illegal" do Democrats not understand? Oh wait, I remember now. Punish the law abiding and release the criminals seems to be the mantra of this sick, disgustiing liberal ideology

From: bigeasygator

This is exactly how legislation always gets written. Now we have all the other stuff passing the Senate without any immigration clauses.

which would effectively ratify illegal immigration at historically high levels

Kinda depends on your definition of legal and illegal. Plenty will argue that those declaring amnesty are now here legally. It’s a gray area that’s being exploited. And it’s an area the bill aimed to address as the fact is there is no current cap. Amnesty International opposed it because, amongst other things, it put caps in place. As they said:

“The immigration measures in this deal are the most extreme anti-immigrant proposals this country has seen in 100 years. From ending the legal right to asylum, to creating unworkable standards that will fail to protect the most vulnerable, to funding to detain 50,000 people and build a border wall, these policies are draconian and antithetical to human rights.”

It would never pass the House anyway because no one would answer the simple question, "How will you pay for it?"

That’s not why it wouldn’t pass the House. It’s because Daddy Trump has much greater sway in the House.

Still waiting to hear what law is currently going unenforced?

Three words: "Catch and Release". A federal judge in Florida ruled that it violates U.S. immigration law, but this administration continues to implement it in record numbers after Biden reversed Trump's policies.

Senate Republicans introduced a bill in early 2023 that would seriously tighten it up (again, why do we need a new law to force compliance with existing law..?) but Dems in the Senate killed it.

Absolutely! Erect massive tent cities like refugee camps, make it as miserable as possible for them to deter more from coming. We make it way too easy. If they truly are seeking asylum, make them remain in Mexico or Venezuela or wherever they came from until they are approved for asylum.

If they were coming to America for a job and a good life they’d be coming through with paperwork in hand and using the correct channels. If they’d start piling bodies up for them to crawl across it’d definitely slow down trust me.

I don’t have an issue with bettering yourself by wanting to come to America. Pay taxes work and raise a family and be a good citizen. I don’t care what nationality you are. Cross illegally, shoot em. We have policies in place use them. It’s simple to see it’s a democratic way of trying to get more idiots on their side. Kinda like Gator, Dana, Fdp Soccermom, KS flat bill. Just to name a few. Hopefully you guys are opening up your houses and taking in a few illegals to help them out.

Joe Biden this week;

He twice mistakenly referred to the dead male German chancellor Helmut Kohl when he was describing a discussion with living female Angela Merkel

He cited a conversation he had with François Mitterand -- the French president who died 27 years ago -- when that conversation was actually with President Emmanuel Macron

At a press conference meant to bolster confidence in his mental health, Biden referred to Egyptian President Sissi as the president of Mexico

This is the guy investigated for taking secret docs and left them in his garage…..the Hur report found; …that President Biden is a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" and "diminished faculties" -- a man who couldn't remember when his term as vice president began or ended, or even "within several years" when his son Beau died

So who do the Dems have running the country? The real question is who the puppet masters behind the scenes are going to swap Biden out for? Kamala slept her way to the top and is dumb as a brick. Newsom- god help us…he wrecked SF…then wrecked CA ….and is just now seeing all the crime his policy has created and claims he will, “ Act Decisively”…hopefully that means he will resign. Can the DNC fool the rest of you across country? Maybe, I dunno anymore. Common sense has left the building.

The DNC will probably just prop up another no namer they can manipulate…otherwise why would they cast off Kennedy?

I would love to see some new laws if some think it will make a change.#1. -All who work must be US citizens ,speak English, pledge allegiance to country and flag. # 2 All must pay a flat simple tax #3 Skin in the game act-all state workers pay to correlate with State media income and federal workers with a combination of the country’s national media income , military pay , and US dep, section ll —One health care system for all local and federal workers correlate with VA system -#4 Term limits #5 All aid outside US territory will no longer be free ,they will be a loan.#6 All illegal persons crossing the border will be shipped home if they do not meet the criteria of asylum seekers-#7 US will match money to NATO matching the lowest paid member #8 US will pay only money for taxes ,security, maintenance, upkeep of UN while remaining costs to go to active members-#9 Yearly audits on any and all local and federal spending of any money derived from tax payers -#10 Foreign lost bill - Any and all US citizens wounded or killed for foreign nation building will receive compensation from said nation determined by the US citizens. #11 Branding law - All citizens to be recognized simply as an American .No labeling to seperate group from group .—- But these ideas do not match the views of the ELITES the follow th UN agenda 2030 —sorry for the rant

The only part they don’t care to explain is the part that they are not capable of controlling this plan and in the end everyone will be poor/hungry/sick/uneducated - except in their minds because they are the rich/educated/smart ones.If these people in charge now were the captain of the titanic — all would have be lost.No common sense and greed will be their down fall in the meantime our’s will be from them acting like gods/they are not
