Now I know this has absolutely nothing to do with Biden, Trump, gender benders, SCOTUS, wokism, lazy young people or nearly naked women. But be patient, because in fewer than ten posts, we should get there to make the thread relevant to Bowsite. I do use them in a food plot, but I guess that’s stretching it for relevance.

As a total aside, t-roy says I ain’t a farmer till I have John Deere, so I’m looking for one of those now for next winters project.

I grew up under a Bolens… Plow, Tiller, Mower, and a blade up front for pushing stuff around…. Spent a lot of time hooking things up and switching them around. Kept me out of SOME trouble, I guess. Pretty minor league compared to when my dad was helping his grandfather plow…. Behind a team of Percherons, I think they were.

Good thing they still had the horses when the War broke out, because they had a Farmall by then… but all of the fuel was going to the War Effort…

I have an old 1075 MF, an old 65 MF, an old 8N Ford, a 60 JD, a 720 JD and a couple B JD. But this little guy is pretty awesome. I also have a belly mower and a snow blower for it.

My place isn't big enough to make it worth it to have a tractor, but they are fun and useful. It seems like a good hobby to have, to me. It brings back memories of mowing for a couple down the road as a kid. I got to drive their Deere and thought it was so cool—a Deere lawn tractor, not a super cool "field" work tractor.

Gotta admit, part of me wants to buy a Kubota with a backhoe arm and bucket just for the heck of it. It would be fun, even though it would be massive overkill.

Rod…..If I’d known you were looking for “green” machine, I’d have sold you this little beauty! Too late now, though. I traded her in for a new 4wd mower for the wife. I’m running out of anniversary gift ideas for her. A new vacuum, dishwasher, leaf blower, shotgun, and now a brand new mower. Not sure what else she could ever want.

The International built Cub earns its keep. Pulls a big tiller, disc, tooth harrow, float and “culvertipacker” mostly home made. Small plots and small machinery. It got a complete nut and bolt tear down this winter.

The Massey got the same treatment last winter.

I used to build 4X4’s for the bush, but that takes to much muscle, time and space these days.

I had too many tractors. Thinned the herd a bit recently. One was an old Cub Cadet.

Now I'm left with a Craftsman for mowing grass, a '53 Farmall Cub, and a '45 Farmall H that was my Great grandfather's with a few attachments for each. The H was the first tractor the family bought moving forward from horses. I've been mowing and plowing with it since I was a preteen. Runs like a champ. I'm gearing up for a complete renovation on it.

Ambush, you do that t-roy’s mom dropped him on his head when he was a baby don’t you ? For confirmation, read his post above, he’s probably in danger of another knot or two when he delivers his latest (possibly last) present ! Orange is the color of real tractors !

T-Roy..........you were lucky to trade that 2010. Most people cant give them away. They were hands down the worst tractor JD ever built. This 630 I own will plow a food plot mighty well. I follow up with my JD520. I pretty much stole the disk behind it. Paid $125 for it and the cylinder was included.

Kind of partial to the Bolens.

05-Apr-24
Rebuilt a 1963 gravely and it was a PITA. First jug had a bad casting in the cylinder wall. Next time replaced the clutches with imported ones and one didn't make enough friction for good traction. It's a tough old machine though. I mowed a three acre hill side that I call a yard for years, plowed snow and tilled the garden with it. Mostly use the Kubota now.

Rod…..you’re no MacGyver (who is Merican), but IMO, you put Red Green (who is a Canuck) to shame!

I agree, Timex IS a tough act to follow! His rugged good looks are only exceeded by his total command of the English language, especially his spelling. I’m just thankful that I’ve been given the gift of knowing what a woman’s wants and needs are.

Beautiful! Do you mind me asking how much dump into a rebuild? I've built some hotrods and it isn't cheap.

06-Apr-24
You've got some hours in that Cub! Very nice work and it looks great.

From: Ambush
06-Apr-24
It's going to get plenty dirty Troy Unlike me, it has to earn it's keep.

hawkeye, I pay myself about five cents an hour and I made almost enough to go out for coffee.

Catscratch, I used to build off road 4X4's for fun, but that wore off with all the work and space needed. If you live in farm country lots of farmers just bought their lawn and garden tractors to match their bigger stuff. They are sitting behind barns, in sheds and in fence rows on lots of farms. Those are the best ones to find, the ones that aren't for sale until find it and ask. You can usually pick up a good and complete rebuildable for anywhere from $200 to $800. Basket cases are not worth the work.

The Cub above came with a dozer blade and tiller, was straight, pretty much unmolested, complete and running. I paid $700. But it is a very solid built machine. It has a Dana car differential in the solid cast rear end.

The Massey 10 was also in very rebuildable condition, but not near the tractor as the Cub. I just liked the look of it. I pick based on hours to rebuild rather than having to buy a lot of parts. Parts are where the money pit is. I also have the tools to rebuild repair or fab most parts I might need. I probably don't have much more than $700 total into the Massey including purchase and paint. If you've built cars, you already have the knowledge and skills to find a good project and get it done up.

It's a pretty cheap activity that you can leave and pick up when you have time. And the product can be used for practical purposes to. I built the complete loader the first covid winter and it has moved a lot of dirt. The Cub does all the food plot work. I gave the Massey to a good friend and he uses it in a big garden and for getting the mail. lol

I'm looking for a John Deere 140 from the '70's or a 110 from the '60's now.

Some people forget the Wheel Horse brand . I myself owned a JD GT235 for years that you couldnt kill it if you wanted too .

The GT235E "variant", built in 2002 and 2003, offered an on-board generator system that provided continuous 1000 Watt power at 120 volts. My old GT235 is still running on a freinds nursery pulling carts with plants etc .
