Not sure if it’s too soon for another bear hunt thread or not. Headed to Saskatchewan on a bear hunt that my youngest daughter got me for Christmas. The little figure on the dash was what she wrapped and how she told me.

Long drive up, will take a couple days and the hunt begins on the 20th.

First leg was a pretty uneventful 10 hour drive. Only had to use profanity a dozen times or so.

Enjoying a beer and chicken fajitas before bed.

Tomorrow I cross the border, we’ll see how that goes.

Yes, she’s a pretty special girl. Can’t count the number of trips across the country so she could get her degree.

Made it to the border around 12:05. At 12:25 they let me in!

Again, not much to see on the drive pretty rainy. Did see some turkeys and one mangy coyote.

The lodging for tonight is not quite as nice, but truck is right outside the door, so I’ll sleep better.

Manitoba has some ugly deer crossing signs.

Good luck on your hunt. Bears are moving and the bugs were just starting. We never fired a thermacell on our hunt.

Chris, I believe it was $55 US before taxes. My wife’s a travel agent, so I don’t pay much attention to that. I just tell her where and when.

Getting curious
First evening sit was very eventful here. Bear came in 10 minutes after drop off. Wasn’t quite what I was looking for, so he got a pass all evening.

Dan from Wisconsin shot a pretty cinnamon bear 15 minutes after drop off. He doesn’t own a cell phone, so ended up sitting until 9:40 when Sheldon came in for pickup.

Ryan from Michigan got his nice jet black bear at around 9:00. Said he was covered up with bears and this guy was running them all off, even with a hunt front leg.

Unfortunately, the forth gentleman didn’t see anything.

I love driving, instead of the herding it seems to me, my life anyway is to much hustle and bustle??!! ,To me driving adds to the hunt. Get to see a lot more of the country, stop and go at your own pace, I love it! Congratulations beautiful bear and thank you so so soooo much for sharing!! Have a safe trip home and enjoy the ride for many years to come, thanks to everyone for posting the hunting trips. I sure love seeing them,

Outfitter is Sheldon Dubnyk Into the Wilds. Hunt is based out of Hudson Bay.

Ryan from Michigan
Well, it’s the final day of the hunt and all 4 of us are tagged out. All but one hunter was seeing multiple bears on the baits every evening. Dan’s color bear, Ryan from Michigan took a large black with 7 bears to choose from. Dan from Michigan was the only hunter that wasn’t seeing anything for two nights.

I shot my boar late on Wednesday evening and we opted to wait until morning to go get him out. After a slow steady drizzle all night, there wasn’t much of a trail. We started a grid and found him shortly after. Not the biggest bear out here, but has a nice head and coat. I was amazed at the amount of fat on the bear coming out of hibernation. They said it was an easy winter without much snow.

Now just hanging out today, enjoying the company and waiting for meat to freeze up. Everything is loaded back up and ready for the drive home tomorrow.

Thanks for putting up with my ramblings and the hunt.
