"hard landing" in helicopter crash this morning, site located this afternoon in remote forested mountains, sending rescue teams, very cold tonight.Lets hope for the worst.

From: Jeff Durnell

Crash n burn baby. I have no sympathy for that one. Hard to survive a helicopter crash. I've been hoping for the worst since I heard about it.

From: drycreek
19-May-24
Hmmmm, I wonder if he’s with his 72 virgins. I hope so, because if the crash didn’t get him…………

19-May-24
Hmmmm…. My FIL set one down the hard way one time…. Probably sucks a lot more in the mtns than the deep blue sea, although it’s probably reassuring (assuming you’ve survived the impact) that at least there are no sharks to worry about…..

We've owed them a chopper crash since 1980

From: Brian M.
19-May-24
A good friend of mine who just recently passed, had four hard landings in Nam while a crew chief on a Huey, between being shot down and mechanical failures. Survived them all. Died in Jan from cancer caused by Agent Orange.

Maybe one, will be this guy's limit.

19-May-24
Good riddance...unfortunately no matter what happened i have a feeling they will find a way to say israel was behind it...and many others will suffer as a result.

Sounds like he was in an old American helicopter with poor maintenance? WTF?

From: Dale06
19-May-24
If he’s dead, his replacement might be just as bad, or worse.

19-May-24
“Sounds like he was in an old American helicopter with poor maintenance? WTF?”

There are those who would ask which one of our units the borrowed it from…. My BIL had catastrophic failures on his planes on at least 3 and probably 4 occasions; would have been within his rights to eject every time, but managed to land them all anyway.

The US Military is not at all underfunded, but the budget gets blown on sexy crap that our Fighters don’t want or need, but politicians want it because it brings the Pork back to their home states….

From: drycreek

Politicians and pork ? Why the very idea………;-))

From: bluedog

Some might find this interesting..... couple years after Vietnam (for me) ...Bell had openings for mechanics in Iran, back when the old Shah still ran it. Their military was a big Bell customer. I applied even though I knew I had little chance. I was just a 67N20 crewchief and that's not near the level they were looking for. Of course I didn't get hired. Would have been interesting.

From: 4nolz@work

My question was why would it be American?

Because many, if not most, of their aircraft are left over from the Shah era when they bought US aircraft.

I hope it was a real hard landing & disintegrated upon impact. One good thing is any of his top officials reported aboard..

“Because many, if not most, of their aircraft are left over from the Shah era when they bought US aircraft.”

That’s my understanding….

Iran — it’s like Cuba, except for aircraft, instead of cars!

Bluedog, It wasn't you, they had probably met their quota. I worked for Lear Siegler in Vietnam. They had contracts to maintain Army helicopters all over the country. Iran didn't have a war going on so there probably wasn't much turnover. Vietnam was a different story. After every mortar or rocket attack there was an exodus going back to the states. Contract was for 6 months. spent 2.5 years there the first time. My last 2 years was on a VNAF contract got there Dec 71, left Dec 73, Saigon fell in April 74. Handwriting was on the wall when I left. Some of the guys I worked with had worked in Saudi Arabia for Lockheed on C-130's and others had worked on f-4's in Iran and in the UK.

Terry... spread skids always make me smile. Went up to I Corp day before Tet 68 ..by the time I finally lost my sweet old D model I bet the skids were spread... well a lot. LOL.. Had no field maint support, we were a 7 ship detatchment. No skids. The Capt and I decided to call it good cuz we were down to 2 or 3 flyable... ahh I digress ;)

Wild story. Hopefully doesn't lead to escalations in tensions. I was surprised to see Iranians blaming weather yesterday, havent looked today at what's being said...

If this cleared the way for a better government that allowed Iranians to become a more open nation which can be a positive nation... I'm not optimistic that happens... But it's a nice thought.

"Lets hope for the worst."

It is easy to judge that man by human standards, but, where anyone of YOU stand before God is a matter to determine long before the suddeness of death. As Jesus said in Luke 13:1-5, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

21-May-24
This isn't the first time men like such has placed their hand against Israel and find out the truth of what God told Abraham… “I will bless them that bless you and curse them that curse you”

The Bible is always correct and events always find the explanation back to the scriptures… sad thing is that people today are so occupied with nothing… they miss the reality of scriptures reasoning and power.

"Well very sad situation sounds like. I guess there were 3 empty seats. What a shame."

i have to admit...when i read your post it reminded me of an old joke.

"what do you call a bus full of lawyers driving off a cliff""

"a good start."

So, Iran is blaming us, not Israel.

They're saying it's because of the sanctions. Which actually could ultimately be the cause of the crash.

From: BowSniper

No reason to think the US or Mossad had anything to do with this. With the Ayatollah still in charge of every major decision, losing these couple of officials changes nothing in Iran.

A moment of silence for this guy? Is the collective of stupid world politicos going to do the same for Hitler?

Have you seen this guys record? He has murdered and tortured tens of thousands of his own people- the guy is Satan reincarnate.

We will never know, but my guess is the entire crew that maintained those helicopters was beheaded yesterday....

"3rd world helicopters crashing into mountains in bad weather does tend to happen more often than we might like to think"

Heck, Kobe Bryant and his daughter shared a similar fate and they were rich as heck and flying in the USA...

Choppers scare me. At least in a plane, if the engine fails, you can at least glide for a while and look for a place to land.

From: Thornton

Helicopters are incredibly dangerous. I think I read somewhere you are 35% more likely to die in a helicopter than a plane. Not sure how accurate that is,but it seems

like it. I've worked with 2 medics that crashed, one as recently as January, and he and his whole crew died. They found the transmission a quarter mile from half the rotor after they hit some geese.

How do the stats on planes and copters compare to automobiles?

From: Thornton
24-May-24
I have no doubt bluedog. No doubt at all. The problem is, you sound like my motorcycle friend who thinks his skills alone will save him. The numbers don't lie and I work a trauma bay that treats these types. I also rub shoulders with helicopter pilots weekly, and I like to listen to their stories. These medical flight services only hire the best of the best. I also own a plane, but I'm far from being experienced. I know the statistics regardless of how good and experienced you think you are, so insert your ego comment in application to yourself. Also add a third helicopter accident to my previous statement. My sister's father in law, Charles Taylor was the only surviving crewmember on a crash in Nam, but he later developed sudden onset alzheimers secondaryto TBI.
