Absolutely fascinating article on a fish we just shoot and take for granted. I’ve shot some big ones over the years but never would’ve guessed their ages to be so high.

It would be interesting for them to study the life cycle of fish in waters that don’t have pike as a primary predator. I’ve found them to be a very prolific fish in the lower Midwest.

That is interesting. Not sure I find it completely believable. First of how do they know for sure aging like other fish is accurate with this species. Second I find it hard to believe that a species that hasn’t reproduced in 60 years successfully wouldn’t have been noticed as having a dramatically decrease in population. Third sounds like a formula for some PhD to successfully apply for a bunch of grant money.
