Had the morning off of work, so headed to one of my state land spots in cockaponset. I was setup just before legal light. Heard bucks chasing does, for the first hour, but couldn't call any in. at 6:45 i thought i heard a deer to my right so i gave out a couple of grunts. I could then hear a deer making a scrape, he then just stood down wind of me for 15 min, then started to slowly walk away. when he got to about 80 yards he stopped for a sec, so i gave out some aggressive grunts and he turned and trotted down right into my lane. he looked up and spotted me in the tree so i had to shoot quick. he only went 15 more yards and piled up! This was my third deer for the year, after taking 2 does earlier. He is a 3 year old eight point, but has already broken the tip of his beam, and his browtine. I hope to see the buck that beat him up! what a great morning to be out, was back at the truck by 8:30 am!
