I have only passed on 2 deer since opening day shotgun.... I had sat in Cockaponset 2 days ago in an old stand that I hadn't hunted for 3 years (I had heard a bunch of deer to the south and passed on a button that came from that direction also). So I decided to hunt from the ground about 150 yards south of my old stand. As I walked in and was just getting set up, I heard deer running around. Then at 7:30, I heard one walking along the hill towards me. Turning, I saw the neck of a deer at about 60 yards. He turned and looked right at me, doing the head-bob. I could see that it was a decent buck, so I put my dot right below the white patch on his neck and squeezed a shot off though a 6 inch hole in the laurel. The buck reared up and flipped right over. Perfect neck shot. Happy to get this deer, seeing that this was the last day I could hunt the A season! Going to New Hampshire for Thanksgiving, and won't be back till Saturday. This unbelievable hunting season continues!!
