I was in a stand that was situated right at the head of a small drainage in the middle of the timber. I was watching a doe on the far ridge when I heard movement behind me. I quickly peeked behind me and a big-bodied buck was about 50 yards away walking up to a scrape. When he threw his head back to work the licking branch I could tell he was a shooter. I knew he was going to cut across the top of the drainage that this stand was set up for so I got ready for the shot. When he came behind me far enough for me to draw my bow and shoot back behind the tree I grunted to stop him. The shot was good and he only made it to the other ridge when I heard him crash. It turned out to be a buck I called "Nightstalker". I had a bunch of trail cam pictures of him at midnight, and this was the first time I'd seen him in daylight so I was lucky to get him.
