I passed this buck up in 2013, thinking he was only a 3 year old, judging by body size and shape. When he got smaller in 2014, I realized he must be a much older deer in decline. I saw him all three evenings I hunted after the 2014 season opened and was fortunate enough to get a shot on the third evening. He was missing some teeth and the remaining ones were nearly worn to the gums, so I knew he was a very old deer. After looking at trail camera photos back to 2008, I realized that I had photos of this deer as a 3 or 4 year old starting that year and every year after. His antlers changed so much year to year that he wasn't recognizable, except for his small double throat patch, only visible from nearly straight on. I believe this buck to be at least 9 years old and is my greatest trophy buck to date for that reason alone.
