On the evening on opening day, I hunted along the edge of an hay field that has held some good bucks in the past. I had photos of a couple of nice bucks in the area but wasn't that hopeful, as they had all shed their velvet. I assumed that the bachelor group members would have gone their separate ways, but to my surprise, they all showed up well before dark. The largest of the group was feeding at 40 yards, but this buck that I named "Blade" due to his brow tines, fed past me at 15 yards and made my mind up for me. The shot was perfect and the blood trail easy to follow but he still managed to go just over 100 yards into the thickest brush around. I was very happy to have my fiancé and hunting buddy with me to help get him out!
