This is a spike elk I shot in Utah with my bow on Tuesday evening (8/27/02). I was sitting in the same treestand that I shot my deer and elk out of last year. It was a little after 7:30 pm and I hadn't seen or heard anything, so I thought I would try to stir something up with a bugle and a few cow calls. Immediately after calling, this spike showed up walking directly towards me. He wandered for a minute down to my right in some trees and I thought I wasn't going to get a shot opportunity, but a soft cow call brought him back in the open heading towards the water hole. He stepped into a large opening at 25 yards and I hit him perfectly. He went only 20- 25 yards after the hit and was dead in minutes.
